Patent number: 7661333Abstract: A rotation transmission member is composed of a shaft-like metal insert member having a first gear section on the external surface thereof and a resin gear resin-molded on the external surface of one end of the metal insert member and having a second gear section on the external surface thereof. The first gear section is formed almost over the entire length of the metal insert member and provides one end thereof as an insert portion on which the resin gear is to be resin-molded. Thus, it becomes unnecessary to provide a joint portion (the insert portion) between the metal insert member and the resin gear with the machining of any particular shape for preventing the coming-off therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2007Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Advics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kenji Watanabe

Publication number: 20090173155Abstract: An axle assembly for a vehicle includes an axle housing having a tubular portion. A bimetallic sensor mount having a first region of corrosion resistant material and a second region of weldable material is welded to the tubular portion. A differential unit including a side gear is disposed in a central cavity of the axle housing. An axleshaft having a shaft portion and a target portion with a plurality of teeth is disposed in the tubular portion of the axle housing. The shaft portion is coupled to the side gear. A sensor is coupled to the sensor mount and extends through an aperture in the mount and the tubular portion to locate an end portion of the sensor a predetermined distance from the teeth of the target portion. A method of making an axle assembly having a sintered bimetallic sensor mount is also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2009Publication date: July 9, 2009Applicant: AMERICAN AXLE & MANUFACTURING, INC.Inventor: Rodney J. Patent number: 7467566Abstract: A driving element is divided into two coaxial toothed members elastically attached to one another. A first of the toothed members is fixed to a shaft. The second of the toothed members is freely mounted on this shaft. The second toothed member has a planar face, opposite and facing away from the first toothed member. That face has seats arranged around the shaft to receive first respective ends of deflection rods. The rods extend, with the shaft, outside of the toothed member. A flange has an axial passage for receiving an end of the shaft. The flange has seats for receiving second respective ends of the deflection rods. A device for clamping the flange on the end of the shaft and in an angular position around the shaft fitted to apply a deflection stress to the rods.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2004Date of Patent: December 23, 2008Assignee: Bobst S.A.Inventor: Phillipe Clement

Patent number: 6826975Abstract: A gear wheel comprises a first gear wheel portion, including first half-teeth, which can be coupled to a second gear wheel portion, including second half-teeth, by adjustable coupling means, so that the first and second half-teeth form by pairs the teeth of the gear wheel. The second gear wheel portion can be turned with respect to the first gear wheel portion about the rotary axis of the gear wheel, and can be locked by the adjustable coupling, so as to change the distance of the first and second half-teeth in each pair.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2001Date of Patent: December 7, 2004Inventor: Luigi Reguzzi

Patent number: 5979260Abstract: An engine includes a gear train to provide engine timing. There is a technique for minimizing the backlash and noise caused by the gear train. There is also an anti-backlash gear assembly useful to reduce backlash in the gear train. One gear assembly has at least two gear wheels with the circular thickness of the teeth of one gear wheel being less than the circular thickness of the other gear wheel. There is also a gear assembly having a bias torque of at least about 100 foot-pounds. There is also a device carried on an anti-lash gear assembly to generally align teeth of the assembly for installation.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Cummins Engine Company, Inc.Inventors: Charles E. Long, Ilya L. Piraner, Dennis R. Tibbetts

Patent number: 5960668Abstract: A roller gear cam index mechanism including a turret having pairs of adjacent rollers radially arranged on a circumference thereof. Each pair of rollers is engaged between adjacent ribs on a globoidal cam. The angle between the line up direction of every pair of rollers and the tangent direction of the turret circumference is a variable between 0 to 90 degrees. The rollers are modified globoidal rollers which are selected having difference maximum radii and vertex positions.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1996Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: National Science CouncilInventors: Ching-Huan Tseng, Wei-Han Wang

Patent number: 4422344Abstract: A novel load proportional antibacklash gear drive system is provided wherein each portion of a split pinion gear is provided with a pressure chamber connected to a torque sensor and servo control unit for controlling the pressure applied individually to each split gear portion, against opposing tooth faces of the driven gear. The servo control unit provides high pressure (hydraulic or pneumatic) to a first split gear portion for drive in one direction while providing low pressure to the second split gear portion in the opposing rotational sense to maintain contact of the split gear with both faces of the driven gear at all times, thereby eliminating backlash. Upon reversal of the direction of rotation of the gear system, the servo unit provides high pressure to the second split gear portion which then acts as the driving gear, and maintains low pressure to the first split gear portion to maintain it in contact with the driven gear to prevent backlash upon reversal of the direction of drive of the gear system.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1981Date of Patent: December 27, 1983Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventor: Hermann A.
