  • Patent number: 6647818
Abstract: A gear includes a gear body which includes a rim integral with a plurality of teeth at an outer peripheral surface thereof, and a boss disposed concentrically inside the rim. The gear further includes at least fitting section which is formed from a material having a low hardness and a low flexural strength as compared with a material for forming the gear body, and which is provided between the rim and the boss, so that the gear with a rotational-power transmitting member fitted into the fitting portion is rotated, whereby the rotational power of the gear body is transmitted to the rotational-power transmitting member, while elastically deforming the fitting section to absorb a predetermined amount of a shock produced with the rotation of the gear body. In such gear, the gear body and the fitting section are formed integrally with each other by a two-color molding process.

  • Patent number: 6158296
Abstract: A transmission (1) comprising a gear assembly for transmitting a rotary motion from a driving shaft (2) to a driven shaft (3), with variable gear ratio, the two shafts (2 and 3) not being coaxial. This transmission consists in: a gear-wheel (4) axially split into two half-gear-wheels (5 and 6) one (5) axially mobile relative to the other (6) and also relative to one of the shafts (3) supporting them, the two half-gear-wheels (5 and 6) being fixed in rotation relative to this shaft (3); a plate (7), integral with the other shaft (2), comprising, on at least one of its surfaces, several gear teeth, concentric (8 to 11) with this shaft (2), cooperating with the gear-wheel (4); and elements for axially displacing the two half-gear-wheels (5 and 6) to alter the geared concentric tooth (8 to 11), thereby shifting the gear ratio. The invention is preferably applicable to land vehicles.

Abstract: The present invention provides and improved method of repairing a crankshaft body having a removable gear. The apparatus includes a crankshaft body having first and second end portions, one end portion carrying a raised annular rib that defines and enlarged diameter portion of the body, the body having a center of rotation during use. A ring gear is removably mounted at one of the end portions upon the annular rib. The ring gear is comprised of a pair of gear sections, each having a generally semicircular recess that is shaped to conform to the outer surface of the crankshaft body at the rib, a pair of opposed mating faces, and a generally semicircular outer toothed surface. A removable connection secures each gear section to the crankshaft body. The removable connection includes a plurality of openings in the crankshaft at the raised annular rib. The openings extend circumferentially about the crankshaft center of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6074316
Abstract: A split sprocket is formed in two opposing half sprocket parts of essentially identical conformation and structure. The halves, when married, form a typical sprocket which may also be a gear or drive pulley. A ring is adapted to engage a circular groove on each side of the sprocket so as to assure the two halves cannot part. A pair of screws also engages the two halves so as to firmly join them. One of the rings may have a cylindrical extension which when fitted into the sprocket adapts the sprocket for being mounted onto a smaller shaft. Each half of the sprocket may be fitted with a tongue and a tongue groove for aligning and maintaining alignment of the two halves.

  • Patent number: 5868036
Abstract: A split transport wheel is described including first and second wheel halves, each having an arcuate external tire receiving surface spanned by a joint surface. The two halves may be selectively assembled with the joint surfaces in juxtaposition and with the tire receiving surfaces forming a relatively continuous tire receiving surface. A clamp assembly releasably joins the first and second wheel halves and is selectively operable to (a) draw the respective joint surfaces together in juxtaposition and (b) release the first and second wheel halves to be separated. A tire, formed of a strip of tire material, may be releasably wrapped about the tire receiving surfaces of the wheel halves. A first tire end anchor on the first wheel half releasably receives one of the strip ends, and a second tire end anchor on the second wheel half releasably receives the remaining tire strip end.

  • Patent number: 5586832
Abstract: An attachment for mounting on a rod or shaft when an end of the rod is not free, in the form of a split collar, pulley or gear, is in two parts having half-cylinder inner portions. The parts may be mounted on diametrally opposed sides of a rod or shaft when axially displaced from one another. Each part has a pair of interlocking elements. Each of the pair of interlocking elements of the first part interdigitates and thereby interlocks with one of the interlocking elements of the other part when the two parts are moved together axially to form a completely encircling attachment on the rod which resists radial dismemberment. A threaded passage extends radially through at least one of the parts to receive a long threaded fastener such as a thumbscrew to fixedly engage the rod. The attachment may be readily and rapidly mounted, locked and removed by an unskilled user without the use of any tools.

  • Patent number: 5389044
Abstract: A split sprocket and retainer assembly are provided for mounting on the drive shaft of a chain drive system, such as a conveyor drive system. The sprocket is split diametrically into two sections and includes a hub. Cross fixing bolts across the hub secure the two sprocket sections together on the drive shaft. A one-piece retaining ring is positioned over the sprocket hub in snug engagement, and overlying the bolts. The retaining ring absorbs the thrust force generated by the driving torque tending to radially separate the sprocket sections during operation of the drive system. A split outer retainer collar is mounted so as to abut the retaining ring and to secure it in position against axial shifting and backing off the hub.

  • Patent number: 4722240
Abstract: An improved split thrust washer assembly for a vehicle transmission speed shaft. The assembly includes a pair of semi-circular washer segments held in a speed shaft circumferential groove by a C-type compression retaining ring. The ring biases each washer segment interior surface into contact with the groove base wall during maximum shaft speeds thereby neutralizing the centrifugal force tending to separate the segments from the groove. The segments have radially extending opposed end faces having a predetermined minimal clearance therebetween thereby insuring that the segments are maintained in contact with the groove. The thrust washer assembly allows a shallower groove to carry the design thrust loads so as to improve shaft fatigue life.

  • Patent number: 4412443
Abstract: At least one head on a roller forming machine can be fixed at any of several different positions along the length of its frame. A line shaft extending along the frame has a bevel pinion for each head, meshing with a driven bevel gear on the head, to drive forming rollers on the head. Each bevel pinion comprises a front two-part pinion member and a rear two-part collar member. Each two-part member has a coaxial bore through it, and its two parts, held together by clamping screws, separate on a plane containing its axis. The bore through the pinion member has a sliding fit on the line shaft, that through the collar member has an interference fit, and the opposing surfaces of the collar member parts are taken down so that the collar member tightly clamps the line shaft. In the front surface of the collar member and the opposing rear surface of the pinion member are radially extending keyway grooves in which keys are received whereby the collar member constrains the pinion member to rotate with the line shaft.
