  • Patent number: 6109414
Abstract: A shift lever device is provided that includes a shift lever, an interlocking member movable from a first position to a second position, a detent member that abuts the interlocking member at the first position and restricts the shifting operation if the shift lever is shifted from the parking range position to another range position, a restricting member movable between a shift-lock state and a shift-lock released state for allowing or preventing the interlocking member to move from the first position to the second position; a manual operation mechanism which allows the restricting member to be manually moved from the shift-locked state to the shift-lock released state, and an actuator connecting member that moves integrally with the restricting member due to the operation of an actuator. When the restricting member is placed in a shift-locked state, it can be moved by the manual operation mechanism into the shift-lock released state.

  • Patent number: 6082217
Abstract: A transmission selector mechanism (16) in a vehicle (10) having a transmission (20), a braking system (14), and a gear selector mechanism (22) is used to prevent the transmission selector mechanism (16) from moving out of a Park position (24) unless a brake pedal (18) has been depressed. A brake pedal (18) remotely controls the braking system (14) and is moveable between a rest position and an applied position. The gear selector mechanism (22) is moveable between a Park position (24) and a plurality of drive positions (26) for remotely controlling the transmission (20). The gear selector mechanism (22) includes an axially movable rod (42) having a bottom end (60) and a detent (62) extending laterally from the rod (42) for disposition in any one of the Park (24) and drive (26) positions. An interlock system (70) initially restrains the detent (62) in the Park position (24) until the brake pedal (18) is moved to the applied position.

  • Patent number: 6059687
Abstract: An automotive vehicle incorporating a transmission equipped with an actuating logic performing the "shift-lock" and "key-lock" functions. The actuator (2) releasing the lever (1) from position P is actuated during a predetermined interval when the brake is applied and the key is in the post-ignition position and, upon expiration of this interval and following reapplication of pressure to the brake pedal (4) after a brief release of the brake pedal (4), the actuator (2) is instantaneously actuated. Similarly, the actuator (10) allowing removal of the key is actuated during a predetermined interval when the shift lever is in the position P. Upon expiration of this interval and following a return of the key to the "accessories" position following a brief movement of the key to the post-ignition position, the actuator is instantaneously actuated.

  • Patent number: 5758544
Abstract: The lockout mechanism selectively prevents passengers from reclining an airplane seat even though they activate the seat's recline input button. Instead of a single cable extending from the recline button to the recline actuator, the invention has separate input and output cables. The input cable attaches to a cylindrical input fitting, and the output cable attaches to a cylindrical output fitting. The input fitting telescopes within the output fitting. A ball, which is adjacent the output fitting, moves between a lockout and a normal position. In the normal position, the ball secures the input and output fittings together so that the input and output cables move together. Therefore, pushing the recline button activates the recline actuator. When the ball is in the lockout position, the fittings telescope relative to each other. Therefore, pushing the seat recline button does not activate the recline actuator. A remotely activated piston cam moves the ball between the normal and lockout positions.

Abstract: A lock plate moves in a direction indicated by an arrow by the operation of a detent knob. A stopper plate to which a main body of an electromagnetic solenoid is fixed is designed to reciprocate between a lock position and an unlock position, the lock position being a position at which a stopper section confronts the lock plate and the unlock position being a position at which the stopper section evacuates from the lock plate. The stopper plate is normally urged toward the lock position by return springs. A cam member coupled to a plunger of the electromagnetic solenoid receives a force to move to the unlock position through the operation of the cam with respect to the lock plate. A resiliency of the return springs is set to a value smaller than a resultant force of a plunger attracting force of the electromagnetic solenoid and a resiliency of a trip spring that urges the plunger in a plunger attracting direction.

A throttle trigger lock is connected to the handle of the working tool so as to be pivotable about a pivot axis. A spring is connected between the throttle trigger and the throttle trigger lock. The throttle trigger, the throttle trigger lock, and the spring form a unitary part. The spring rests at an abutment of the handle at least when under load such that the spring is divided into functionally independent sections, whereby a first section extends between the abutment and the throttle trigger and a second section extends between the abutment and the throttle trigger lock.

  • Patent number: 5493932
Abstract: A locking arrangement on a selector lever for a motor vehicle transmission has an electromagnetic clutch which receives current from a circuit. This clutch consists of a magnetic clamp and of a check plate which can be moved about a pivot axis. When supplied with current, the check plate, when the clutch is closed, adheres to the magnetic clamp and blocks a locking pin. The locking pin is arranged transversely with respect to the selector lever and engages in an indentation of a connecting link, whereby a swivelling of the selector lever is prevented. This arrangement is small, light weight, can be integrated completely into the selector lever and can be released when a preload is exercised on the locking arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5314049
Abstract: A shifter for an automatic transmission is prevented from shifting out of Park position when the ignition switch is on unless the service brake is applied. An articulated solenoid-operated blocking arm is positioned to selectively block movement of a locking pin to prevent the shift lever from leaving the Park position of the shift gate. A circuit, including switches responsive to ignition, service brake application and shift lever position, controls solenoid activation. A cam responsive to the shift lever release button and to the lever position controls the shift lever position switch. The blocking arm can comprise two segments joined by a hinge. In blocking position, the hinge lies on one side of the path of pin movement. If the pin release is prematurely actuated, the pin engages the blocking arm. Subsequent solenoid activation pushes the hinge overcenter so that pin force will collapse the blocking arm, enabling its movement out of blocking position by the solenoid.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a shift locking apparatus for blocking a shifting movement unless a special operation is conducted such as the depression of a foot brake by an operator, when a shift lever of an automatic transmission is moved from a specified shift position of a parking "P" and the like to another shift position, wherein when releasing of the shift lock is conducted by an electrically operated actuator such as a solenoid, the shift lock can be released by use of a key for a vehicle even in a condition where the electrically operated actuator is not used. The operation of a key cylinder by use of the key of the vehicle by the operator causes the shift lock to be released, ensuring that the operator can move the shift lever to any other shift position, thereby permitting the vehicle to be moved even if there is some trouble such as electrical trouble.
