  • Patent number: 4453455
Abstract: A force amplifying displacement device for displacement of an object (5) a predetermined distance relative to a frame (2) or the like, wherein a first, longer part of the displacement movement requires a relatively minor force, while a second, shorter part of the movement requires a substantially greater force. The device comprises a lever mechanism (13) active between the frame (2) and a power transmission rod (17). An operating unit (9), e.g. consisting of a pressurized fluid cylinder (10), piston (11) and piston rod (12), first operates directly between the object (5) and the frame (2,22) and, thereafter, by sensing the end portion (28) of the power transmission rod (7), by way of the lever mechanism (13), so that a strongly amplified force is applied to the power transmission rod (7) and the object (5).

  • Patent number: 4416104
Abstract: A clamping mechanism for an impulse sealer includes a pair of drive arms pivoted on a flat base member and a pressure arm pivoted about the same pivot between the drive arms. Complimentary pressure members are located at the free ends of the drive arms and pressure arm for clamping a member to be heat sealed. A pair of levers are pivoted intermediate their ends on the drive arms between the clamping member and the pivot. The levers are comprised of two arms disposed at oblique angles relative to each other with the end of the lower arm sliding on the flat surface of the base member. The free end of the upper arm of the lever is connected to the pressure arm at a point between the clamping member and the pivot by means of a connecting rod so that depression of the drive arm will cause the ends of the lower lever arm to slide along the surface of the base member.

  • Patent number: 4400994
Abstract: A first segment usually attached to a tractor is pivotally linked by a first bolt to a second pivotal segment. For example, which may be moved between an extended outward working position and a retracted, non-working inward position. A hydraulic cylinder and piston are mounted on the fixed segment and the free end of the piston is pivotally linked to the base of a substantially U-shaped member. One arm of the U-shaped member is pivotally linked to the fixed segment, and the other arm of the U-shaped member is pivotally linked to one end of a coupling member. The other end of the coupling member is pivotally linked to the pivotal segment. In the extended position, the arms of the U-shaped member pivot down wardly, and the end of the coupling member connected to the pivotal segment comes to rest between the arms of the U-shaped member in horizontal alignment with the links connecting the U-shaped member to the fixed segment and pivotal segment.

A piston axially slideable and rotatable in a cylinder is supported by first and second sets of connecting elements which are spaced from and inclined to the axis of the cylinder. • Patent number: 4127042
Abstract: An improved brake lever assembly of the overcenter toggle type is disclosed, wherein the brake operating lever is preferably pivotally connected with the stationary mounting plate assembly about a pivot axis that is laterally displaced from the linear axis of travel of an inner cable member relative to the concentrically arranged tubular outer sheath, thereby to reduce wear of the inner cable guide means. According to a first feature of the invention, an improved anchor plate or anchor plate arrangement is provided for connecting one end of the outer sheath member with one end of the stationary mounting plate assembly. In accordance with a second feature, a ratchet and pawl assembly is provided for releasably locking the operating lever in various angular positions relative to the mounting plate assembly.

Abstract: An escape slide container is mounted for selective, upward movement with a track-mounted, overhead sliding door in an aircraft fuselage. Slide deployment mechanism for releasing the container from the door and for attaching it to the floor of the aircraft allows the door to move upwardly independently of the container, leaving the container attached to the floor. An over-center linkage supports the container above the floor while upward movement of the door trips the over-center linkage to propel the container outwardly through the door opening to deploy the escape slide under the urging of gravity.

Abstract: An improved actuating mechanism for the bucket assembly of a refuse vehicle includes a variable torque applying linkage connected to a hydraulic cylinder wherein the linkage is comprised of a crankarm fixed to a rotatable shaft, on which the bucket assembly is mounted, and a connecting link which has one end connected to the crankarm and its other end connected to the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder. The linkage is connected in such a manner that the link functions both as a two force and a three force member during a complete cycle of operation, and in so doing, is operable to change the moment arm of the force applied by the cylinder which, in turn, varies the torque applied to the shaft; the greatest torque being applied during a compression stroke of the bucket assembly.

  • Patent number: 4051746
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the movement of a movable tail-gate hinged to a tipping body of a vehicle. A collapsible toggle linkage is pivotally connected at one end to a flap adapted to bear against the tail-gate and the opposite end of the linkage is pivotally connected to a support secured to the vehicle. The toggle linkage is moved between erect and collapsed conditions by a piston and cylinder assembly, the piston rod of said assembly being connected to the interconnected ends of the toggle linkage by a bracket. The bracket serves as a stop to prevent outwardly collapsing movement of the toggle linkage. The tail-gate can be maintained in a closed position independently of any forces exerted by the piston and cylinder assembly.

There is provided a toggle-lever construction in which one end thereof is backed against a suitable anchor device and the other end thereof bears against movable means such as the jaw of a vise. A relatively light force applied laterally of the toggle will produce a large force longitudinally thereof. In one embodiment the lateral force is applied by a longitudinally moving tapered screw. Wear on the toggle is minimized by providing rounded ends having substantially only a line contact between the components of the toggle with respect to each other and between the components of the toggle and the means engaging the respective free ends thereof.

  • Patent number: 4020961
Abstract: Apparatus for loading and unloading objects such as boats to and from elevated surfaces such as the tops of vehicles. Spring biased structures provide for allowing the object to lie substantially horizontally on top of a vehicle and for causing one end of the object to be elevated for unloading purposes when desired. The spring biased structure also prevents the object from pivoting too quickly during the loading process and thereby causing an undesirable impact between the vehicle top and the object during this loading process. A winch is provided for pulling the object onto the vehicle top or for allowing a controlled unloading by utilizing a gravity force limited by the winch. Rollers are clamped on one end of the object and a rod pivotally attached to the vehicle causes the roller end of the object to be spaced sufficiently from the vehicle when the rollers are near the ground to thereby aid in the controlled handling of the object.
