    Abstract: A decorative strip for automotive bodies, and more particularly, for steering wheel rings, is formed of a thin vinyl substrate with an adhesive coating on one surface and a decorative design on the other. The surface with the decorative design is covered with a coat made of a clear resin. The strip has a generally arcuate shape so that it fits easily on the steering wheel ring thereby improving its esthetic look. Moreover the strip is elastic so that it can be bent as at is applied to the steering wheel thereby conforming naturally to its radius of curvature and forming a smooth and continuous cover without any ridges or other irregularities. In some instances the strip is formed of several parallel sections to allow the strip to adapt better to the curvature of the wheel ring. The sections may have linear lateral edges or the edges may be serrated to form interlocking profiles as the sections are abutted against each other.

    Abstract: A steering wheel mark member fixing structure which enables a mark member to be strongly fixed to a pad cover and enables a reduction in costs. At a steering wheel, in a state in which fixing legs of the mark member are inserted in fixing holes of a pad cover, the fixing legs are bent, such that distal end portions of the fixing legs are abutted against taper portions adjacent to the fixing holes. The taper portions have a triangular cross-sectional configuration. Thus, the fixing legs are bent at acute angles, and bent portions of the fixing legs abut the corner portions of the taper portions. The distal end portions of the fixing legs are caught by a strong force on the taper portions, and it is difficult for the bent state of the fixing legs to be released. The mark member can thereby be strongly fixed to the pad cover. As a result, there is no need for another member such as a pin, as there is in conventional structures. A number of parts and costs are reduced.

A coating layer can be provided for the surface of the hard portion, and leather can be bonded to the surface of the soft portion.

    Abstract: A vehicle interior hand grip material for mounting on an existing gear shift lever arm, on a portion of a steering wheel and other items operated by hand inside a vehicle. The hand grip material includes a plurality of flexible “string like” elastomeric members extending outwardly from an attachment member. The attachment member may be a thin wire wrapped around a portion of the elastomeric members and tightened thereon. Also, the attachment member may be a liner with one end of the elastomeric members attached to the liner. The wire attachment member can be secured around a gear shift threaded housing threaded on an end of the vehicle's gear shift lever arm. Also, the wire attachment member can be attached to other hand operated items inside the vehicle. Further, the steering wheel liner attachment member can be placed around a portion of the vehicle's steering wheel.

In order to produce the cover, two unfinished parts are initially produced, into which a groove is milled. Subsequently, a decorative layer is applied to the unfinished part. A layer of lacquer is applied to the unfinished parts that are joined to form a tubular ring segment. During the following operational step, the tubular ring segment is divided into two halves, which are joined with the ring and thus form the cover.

A back cover is arranged below the spokes and the pad. The spoke located closest to the driver's position is held by a pair of hooks projecting from the back cover. Each hook has a connecting rib. The connecting ribs separate the hooks during relative movement between the spokes and the back cover. A guide rib is arranged on the rim of the back cover in correspondence with each spoke to facilitate the attachment of the back cover. Each guide rib extends in the longitudinal direction of the associated spoke. The guide rib permits relative movement between the back cover and the spokes.

Controller (18) controls the flow of current to heating element (12) using control inputs from one or more of steering wheel temperature sensor (20), cabin temperature sensor (26), temperature adjustment control (34), and vehicle climate control system (44). A timing module automatically shuts off the flow of current after a predetermined period of time.
