  • Patent number: 4526087
Abstract: A cylinder (3) is positioned to rotate on a fixed axle (1) in such a way that several leakproof chambers (3B, 3D) are formed: a second, longer cylinder (4) is positioned to slide along the first (3) and to turn on the fixed axle (1) in such a way that several leakproof chambers are formed (4A, 4B). Communicating pressurized fluids into the various chambers makes the cylinders (3, 4) turn a distance proportionate to a value x, and can make the second cylinder move axially along the first cylinder a distance proportionate to another value y; these values x and y being derived from several variables and sensors (10a to 10d) "read" the surface contours of the second cylinder (4), representing, for example, a function f (x,y).

  • Patent number: 4524637
Abstract: A spring-operated mechanism for actuating a switch gear, etc. comprises a cam member secured to a crankshaft and adapted to be moved thereby. Cam grooves are formed in the cam member such that the distance from the center of the crankshaft is smallest at the middle portion of the groove and progressively increases towards the extremities of the groove. A rod is provided with a pin at one end adapted to be rolled at each end within the cam grooves, and at the other end the rod is provided with a spring support. A stationary member is provided with guide elements to cause the rod to move linearly, and a spring is disposed between the stationary member and the spring support, whereby the spring is adapted to store compressive energy when the crankshaft is rotated through a predetermined angle by a driving source, and, through a further revolution of the crankshaft, the spring releases the stored energy to accelerate the revolution of the crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 4463627
Abstract: A pneumatic piston and cylinder assembly is preset by means of a 3-way regulating valve to exert a balancing force on a blockade arm in a retracted position. The arm is coupled via a linkage to a cam follower which rides on a rotary cam. The arm pivots in response to motion of the cam. When the cam causes the arm to pivot away from the retracted position to an advanced position, the arm overcomes the preset balancing force and causes the piston to retract gradually as air is bled to atmosphere from the cylinder via the valve. At the end of the stroke of the arm, the diminished air pressure in the cylinder provides a cushion to prevent bounce of the arm. As the cam causes the arm to reverse its stroke and pivot back to the retracted position, air is gradually admitted to the cylinder via the valve, thereby extending the piston and assisting movement of the arm.

  • Patent number: 4301696
Abstract: When machine elements having a large mass are indexed, i.e. subjected to short, quick rotating movements, very great acceleration and deceleration forces must be transmitted via the driving means of the machine. Due to vibrations occurring, increasing the stresses on the driving means, the driving means must be dimensioned accordingly. The present invention provides a method and an arrangement for the compensation of the forces applied and thus for reducing the stresses which occur. This is performed by combining the indexing machine element with a cam disc which is contacted by a number of spring-loaded cam followers, whereby the cam disc has such a shape that the cam follower decelerates and accelerates the cam disc following the desired movement pattern of the machine element.

  • Patent number: 4261222
Abstract: A cam assembly is disclosed which is used for the selection of different track positions for a magnetic tape head in a magnetic tape player/recorder. The tape track position of a magnetic tape head is determined by the position of a cam follower member which is selectively positioned with respect to a reference surface by selectively positioning a number of different diameter ball bearings between the cam follower member and the reference surface. Specifically, a solenoid actuated armature causes the linear movement of pawl members which in turn rotate a ratchet wheel member. The ratchet wheel member forms part of a cam apparatus that includes four ball bearings of different diameters. Sequential rotation of the ratchet member selectively positions ball bearings of different diameters between a non-rotatable reference surface and the cam follower member.

  • Patent number: 4207775
Abstract: A fuel pumping apparatus includes a housing in which is located a plurality of reciprocable tappet assemblies including tappet bodies. The tappets carry rollers for engagement with cams respectively. In order to prevent rotation of the tappet bodies adjacent pairs of the tappet bodies are provided with mutually facing and mutually inclined flats which are engaged by wedge-shaped guide members. The flats and guide members permit reciprocable movement of the tappet bodies but prevent rotation thereof.

  • Patent number: 4204814
Abstract: A fuel injection pump with roller shaft for internal combustion engines, in which the roller is loosely journalled in a substantially cylindrical opening provided in a shaft or push member actuated in upward direction by a cam and in downward direction into its lower dead center position by a spring. The roller shaft or push member is at that end portion which is adjacent the roller provided with supporting surfaces by means of which the roller shaft when occupying its lower dead center position rests upon shoulders of a camshaft at opposite sides of the above mentioned cam. The diameter of the camshaft substantially equals the diameter of the high level portion of the cam. When the roller shaft rests on these shoulders, a gap is formed between the wall of the opening in the roller shaft and the roller so that sufficient lubricant can collect in the gap to assure proper lubrication of the roller, even when the roller shaft is under great load.

  • Patent number: 4181037
Abstract: Rotatable article supporting plates with cabinet doors attached mounted on a rotatable central supporting shaft, the shaft being suspended, at least partially, from a mechanism for adjusting the vertical alignment of the doors relative to the cabinet door frame. The mechanism may be biased to maintain the doors in a preferred rotational position, e.g. a closed door position relative to the door frame. The preferred rotational position of the mechanism may also be adjusted to rotationally align the doors in their closed door position in the door frame. The mechanism includes a cam gear disposed in a housing which rotates on a sawtooth track in response to the adjustment of a threaded member to raise or lower the shaft and doors.

  • Patent number: 4173954
Abstract: A limited rotation roller tappet having an aperture and a slot formed in it. A locking bar having a narrow end portion and a shoulder portion prevents rotation of the tappet. The end portion of the locking bar is adapted to pass through both the aperture and the slot while the shoulder portion will not pass through the aperture. The locking bar preferably has a second narrow end portion and is held in place by a second similar roller tappet adjacent to the first having a slot through which the second end portion passes and an aperture through which the shoulder portion will not pass.

  • Patent number: 4159924
Abstract: A combined control device for the operation of coke oven batteries which includes both a part for converting from heating with a strong gas to a lean gas, and vice versa, and a part for switching the regenerative heating system from one group of heating flues to another, comprises a support frame on which is mounted a rotary switching control cylinder and a rotary conversion control cylinder in end-to-end relationship and for rotation around the same axis. The rotary conversion control cylinder is displaceable in respect to the rotary switching control cylinder, and the two cylinders may be coupled together for rotation together or the conversion cylinder may be shifted axially so that it will not rotate with the switching control cylinder. The switching control cylinder is driven at one side from a motor driven transmission which also permits the manual operation of the cylinders.

Abstract: A spring-loaded cam plate is pivotally mounted on an outer inclined surface of a brake pawl having at its inner surface a tooth, the cam plate being pivotable relative to the brake pawl along the outer inclined surface. A driver operable control rod is formed with a cut out portion forming an wedge surface including a large inclined first section near the bottom of the cut out portion and a small inclined second section. • Patent number: 4109548
Abstract: A parallel indexing cam structure has a locking cam and a pair of further cams which are rigidly secured to an input shaft at predetermined angular positions relative to each other, and a cam follower device is rigidly secured to an output shaft parallel to the input shaft and has a plurality of spider plates and three sets of cam follower rollers. During the dwell period, the locking cam is contacted by two rollers of one set of the cam follower rollers while the further cams are contacted by only one of the rollers of the respective remaining sets. The locking cam has a larger profile circle at the dwell position during the dwell period than the further cams, thereby blocking the rotation of the output shaft with increased accuracy and stiffness during the dwell period.
