Abstract: A tappet converts rotational motion of a cam placed on a lower side of a plunger into linear reciprocating motion and transmits the converted linear reciprocating motion to the plunger. The tappet includes a roller and a shoe. The roller is reciprocated in a top-to-bottom direction in a state where the roller contacts an outer peripheral surface of the cam. The shoe rotatably supports the roller and is reciprocated in the top-to-bottom direction. In the fuel supply pump, there is satisfied an inequality of X<r. In this inequality, X denotes a distance between a top-dead center and a bottom-dead center of the plunger in the top-to-bottom direction, and r denotes a radius of the roller.

Abstract: An epicycloid planet gear cam that converts rotational movement of a driveshaft into linear movement of an output device is disclosed. An epicycloid planet gear is assembled inside a stationary housing with an internal stationary ring gear. A driveshaft eccentric is connected to a driveshaft. The driveshaft eccentric rotates freely in a mounting hole of the epicycloid planet gear. When the driveshaft rotates, the driveshaft eccentric engages the epicycloid planet gear against the stationary ring gear and causes the epicycloid planet gear to rotate. A cam follower pin attached to an output device is held against a cam track of the epicycloid planet gear. As the epicycloid planet gear rotates, the raised cam track height or the slotted cam track distance from the center of the epicycloid planet gear causes the cam follower pin to move up, down, in, or out thereby moving the output device.

  • Patent number: 8668466
Abstract: A variable displacement reciprocating pump with pumping rate that is adjustable from zero to maximum stroke while the pump is running. Stroke is varied by changing relative position of pairs of eccentric inner and outer cams that drive the pump's plungers. The pump's input drive shaft drives two gear trains: a first gear train that turns the inner cams and a second gear train that turns the outer cams. These cams normally revolve together with no relative motion occurring between them. A rotary actuator is positioned in the first gear train to rotate the inner cams relative to the outer cams and thereby changes the pump's stroke. A computerized system of sensors and control valves allows the pump to be automatically controlled or limited to any one or combination of desired output flow, pressure and horsepower.

  • Patent number: 8656806
Abstract: A compliant follower cam system includes a cam rotatable about a cam rotational axis continuously aligned with a cam displacement axis. The cam has a body center spaced from the rotational axis. A compliant follower has an elastically deformable first contact wall positioned proximate to a cavity. The first contact wall is directly contacted by the cam body outer surface. A compliant follower non-deflected condition occurs when a first contact wall outer surface directly contacts the cam body outer surface prior to deflection of the first contact wall, with the cam body center out of alignment with the displacement axis. Rotating the cam moves the body center toward the compliant follower into alignment with the displacement axis. The cam thereby deflects the first contact wall into the cavity defining a compliant follower deflected condition and creates a biasing force releasably frictionally engaging the first contact wall and cam.
