Patent number: 9133932Abstract: Reciprocating motion can be converted to rotary motion through a crankshaft and a connecting rod. In a connecting rod that is primarily in compression, two opposing connecting rods can be coupled to a single journal. Two bearing shell portions are placed over the journal with a pushrod placed over each bearing shell portion. The pushrods are normally in compression. To overcome the potentiality of the pushrods briefly being in tension, retainers can be coupled to the pushrods. Because both pushrods are coupled in-line, the width of the journal that can accommodate these pushrods is shorter than for a journal on which the two pushrods are side by side. The crankshaft can be shorter, stronger, and lighter weight.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2012Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: EcoMotors, Inc.Inventors: Peter Hofbauer, Adrian Tusinean

Patent number: 4236416Abstract: A power transmission for engines, motors, pumps and the like comprises a power shaft mounted to rotate about a fixed axis, an eccentric in the form of a tapered bar having arcuate ends secured on the power shaft to turn therewith, a power transmission ring having a circular internal bearing surface contacting the arcuate ends of the eccentric, a plurality of cranks connected to the power transmission ring by crankpins, each crank having a crankshaft journaled to turn about a fixed axis which is parallel to the power shaft. Power may be applied to any of the crankshafts by a motor coupled to the crankshaft or power may be applied to any crankpin by a pitman connecting the piston of an internal combustion engine or fluid motor to the crankpin. In either case, the power applied imparts non-rotary, planetary motion to the power transmission ring to turn the eccentric about the axis of the power shaft, thereby rotating the power shaft at the same speed at which each of the cranks is rotated but with more torque.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1978Date of Patent: December 2, 1980Inventor: Jose M. Patent number: 4194404Abstract: A crank assembly for coupling a plurality of connecting rods to a common crank pin of a crankshaft includes an articulation member journaled on the crank pin. The articulation member carries a plurality of knuckle pins arranged in a radial array about the crank pin. Auxiliary cranks interconnect the articulation member and the body of the machine to limit freedom of movement of the articulation member and to assure that it does not rotate in space as it moves with the crank pin in a circular path around the axis of the crankshaft. The described assembly is particularly useful with reciprocating piston machines of the type having a radial array of cylinders with pistons movable in the cylinders, and permits the use of identical connecting rods, each drivingly connecting a separate one of the knuckle pins and a separate one of the pistons. Moreover, each of the auxiliary cranks can be used either as an additional power transmission input or output for the system.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1978Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Inventors: Valentin Jager, deceased, by Klara B. Patent number: 3981229Abstract: A radial motor powered by pressurized gas is disclosed as used for starting the internal combustion engine of a portable implement such as a powered chain saw or lawn mower. The motor is designed for economical manufacture and assembly, durability, and economy of gas used. It includes pistons formed of stiff resilient material that in assembly are snapped onto the outer ends of connecting rods and held in place during operation of the motor without the use of retaining rings, pivot pins or screws. The inner ends of these connecting rods are held in sockets in connecting rod mounting means either by the shapes of the sockets or by the resilience of either or both of the connecting rod and mounting means. The motor includes a rotatable valve driven by a free end of the crankshaft to feed gas to the cylinders.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 1974Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Assignee: Midland-Ross CorporationInventors: John H.
