    Abstract: A device and method for reaming a flight gap of a drill flight of a drilling tool includes a base carriage displaceably mounted along a mast of a drilling apparatus. A reaming element engages the flight gap so soil adhering to the rotating drilling tool is scraped off by the reaming element. A support arm holding the reaming element is movably mounted between a retracted position where the reaming element is spaced apart from the drilling tool and a reaming position where the reaming element engages the flight gap. The support arm pivots about a pivot axle parallel to a longitudinal drilling axis of the drilling tool. The support arm is additionally mounted on the base carriage parallel to the longitudinal drilling axis of the drilling tool to be deflectable from a basic position, and is resiliently held in the basic position by means of a bias spring.

    Abstract: An energy absorbing device, suitable for use in the leg structure of aircraft passenger seating for the purpose of attenuating crash forces, having first and second attachment fittings 11, 21 with a tube 10 of fiber reinforced plastics material extending between them. Tube 10 has a crush initiation band 17 at which buckling of the tube commences upon compressive overload. Long, tough fibers are used as the reinforcing material in the tube so that, when compression of the device has concluded, there is a residual tensile capability. Successful operation of the device is facilitated by providing attachment fitting 12 with a slider 15 which helps to maintain the collapsing portion of the tube in axial alignment with the uncollapsed portion. The slider also acts as a tube wall straightener to unbuckle the collapsed fibers when tensile load is applied.

The contacting blade surface supports the machine's entire weight. A special counterbalancing apparatus that includes, for example, a compressed coil spring, biases the control lever so as to compensate for the machine's weight and permits an operator to adjust the blade pitch with substantially less force than otherwise would be required.

The spring assembly is preferably connected by a pair of internally slotted links for slidably and pivotally connecting the spring assembly at the attachment points. Each attachment point is only effective (i.e. experiences the pulling force of the spring assembly) during a single quadrant of arm assembly motion.

    Abstract: The invention is an improved piston engine, either two stroke or four stroke. In one, two stroke, one cylinder embodiment, the improvement comprises two springs connecting between the piston and the base of the piston. These springs are relatively relaxed when the crank is at top dead center. Then during the power/intake stroke, some of the fuel's energy is delivered to the crankshaft and some is used to compress the springs. The stored energy in the springs is delivered to the crankshaft during the exhaust/compression stroke while the springs return to their relatively relaxed condition. As a result, energy is delivered to the crankshaft during both strokes of the cycle, and the engine runs smooth.In one, four stroke, two cylinder embodiment, each cylinder has springs as described above, the cranks of each cylinder are aligned, and the cam sets one cylinder in the power stroke while the other is in the intake stroke.
