Patent number: 11187200Abstract: A starter box for small scale fuel powered vehicles includes a rigid container with two sets of mounting hardware on the top surface of the container. The mounting hardware engages suspension components of the vehicle. The starter box includes a drive wheel assembly connected to a brushless motor. The assembly includes a drive wheel with a frictional perimeter surface. The drive wheel extends partially through an opening in the top surface to engage a flywheel of the vehicle. Both sets of mounting hardware are horizontally movable to adapt to different vehicles. One set of mounting hardware is spring loaded and moves vertically when the vehicle is pressed downwardly to engage the drive wheel and a switch connecting the motor to a battery through an electronic speed control (ESC). The ESC is programmable to control the motor speed, acceleration, and latency of engagement while monitory the charge level of the battery.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2020Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Inventors: Vincent Kolbe, John Cary

Patent number: 8215194Abstract: In a starter with which a pinion movable body with which a pinion gear and a one-way clutch were united moves on an output shaft, a holder is attached to the one-way clutch. A seal component having the shape of a ring is provided so that an end of an outer circumference of the seal component is fixed to a nose part of a housing and an end of an inner circumference of the seal component slidably contacts an outer circumferential surface of the holder. The holder is provided so that relative rotation to the one-way clutch is possible. Since the holder doesn't rotate relative to the housing, wear of a seal component is reduced compared with the case where the seal component contacts the one-way clutch which rapidly rotates whereby the sealability preventing a foreign substance or water from infiltrating into the inside of the starter can be maintained.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2010Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Denso CorporationInventors: Kensuke Hirai, Kazuhiro Andoh

Patent number: 7658175Abstract: An engine start device having a first start mode in which the engine is started on a spot by executing a start operation of the engine, and a second start mode in which a necessary accumulated force is previously accumulated in to start in one time in an optional place at an optional timing. In the first start mode, an accumulated force, accumulated by a rotation of a rotation drive section allows the engine to be started on the spot. If switched to the second start mode, the rotation of the rotation drive section is exclusively accumulated and released in the optional place at a desired time so as to start the engine in accordance with a one-touch operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2005Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignee: Zenoah Co., Ltd.Inventors: Yuu Sugishita, Kazuo Nakajima

Patent number: 6957594Abstract: In a starter, a cylindrical tube is slidablly engaged with an outer peripheral surface of an output shaft through a bearing in an axial direction. A front end of the tube, which supports a pinion, is closed to define an enclosed space between the front end of the tube and an end of the output shaft. A ventilation groove is formed on an inner cylindrical surface of the tube to communicate the enclosed space with a space defined rearward of the bearing. The ventilation groove has a helical shape twisted about an axis of the tube. When the bearing is press-fitted in the tube, a direction of press-fitting the tube and a direction along the ventilation groove do not coincide, but cross each other.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2002Date of Patent: October 25, 2005Assignee: Denso CorporationInventors: Toyohisa Yamada, Shinji Usami

Patent number: 4267738Abstract: A turning device preferably for turbine-machines is disclosed having a turning-gear pinion arranged on a cam so that the axes of rotation of the cam, the turning-gear pinion and the shaft to be turned are aligned in a central line. To turn the shaft, the turning-gear pinion is caused to engage a toothed ring of the shaft by a hydraulic piston acting on the cam. The turning-gear piston is then held in the engaged position by a spring-loaded pressure cylinder which engages a catch of the cam. When a certain speed has been reached, or when the shaft is turning backward, the spring loaded pressure cylinder becomes disengaged from the catch and the turning-gear pinion swings out sideways.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1979Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Assignee: BBC Brown, Boveri & Co., Ltd.Inventor: Alfred Hausermann
