  • Patent number: 5950503
Abstract: An assembly for carrying out operations in the transfer, manufacture, or assembly of components having an open center turntable, rotatable about a vertical axis, having a number of work positions adapted for alignment with component supply, assembly, and removal. The platform is movably borne on an open center fixed base support, by means of bearings journalled between the support and the turntable proximate the work force exerted on the component at the turntable work station. The platform is rotated about the open center fixed support by means of a substantially circular drive hub attached to the platform. A drive belt, coupled to the drive pulley of a motor, located beneath the platform peripherally engages the drive hub about a circular belt raceway attached to the hub. As the drive pulley rotates, the turntable rotates through a defined set of motions by means of the drive belt arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5297454
Abstract: A device for rotationally indexing an indexing table by utilizing a synchronized tap function of a machine tool main spindle. The rotation and the axial feeding displacement of the main spindle are in a specific synchronized relation. When the main spindle is fed forward, it engages an input shaft of the indexing device and thrusts it to retract against a spring force. Upon arriving at a retracted position of the input shaft, the main spindle starts rotation in one direction. Because of a one-way clutch between the input shaft and the indexing table, the rotation of the input shaft imparted by the main spindle is not transmitted to the indexing table. After a predetermined angular rotation and an axial feed, the main spindle is rotated in the reverse direction to be withdrawn axially. At this time the one-way clutch operates to transmit the reverse rotation to the indexing table. The indexing device is of compact construction and ensures accurate indexing.

  • Patent number: 5067371
Abstract: For controlling the locking of the rotatable tool holder of a tool turret, the angular position of the tool holder is determined by a rotating transmitter. The rotating transmitter is rotated corresponding to the rotary movement of a control and synchronization device. Digital signals are produced with the aid of the rotating transmitter. Each digital signal is associated with one angular position of those which may be selected. With each of these signals, the indicator is changed in those two angular positions of the control and synchronization device for locking and unlocking of the tool holder at each of its angular positions. The indicator is changed by the rotary movement of the device in one or the other direction out of the associated angular position and into the angular position associated with the locking of the tool holder. These rotary transmission signals are used to control the locking.

  • Patent number: 4173905
Abstract: A change-speed gearbox has coaxial input and output shafts. Five intermediate shafts are equi-spaced around the input shaft and each has two gears fixed thereto, one of which meshes with a common gear on the input shaft, the intermediate shafts being movable axially.Five gears of different diameters are fixed to the output shaft around which five secondary shafts are carried by a rotatable cage. The five secondary shafts each have two gears fixed thereto, one of which meshes with a different one of the gears on the output shaft.Any one of a possible twenty five gear ratios between the input and output shafts may be obtained by rotating the cage until a selected one of the secondary shafts is in the same radial plane as a selected one of the intermediate shafts, that intermediate shaft then being moved axially to bring the second gear thereon into mesh with the second gear on the selected secondary shaft.

  • Patent number: 4161893
Abstract: An indexing mechanism having a base and a cyclical drive unit mounted on the base and connected through a connecting member to a driven member which is supported on and for movement relative to the base. The connecting member has a coupling arrangement thereon which is movable into and out of engagement with the driven member. A control is provided for effecting a simultaneous (1) coupling by the coupling arrangement of the drive member to the driven member and (2) driving of the driven member by the drive member in one direction and a simultaneous uncoupling of the coupling arrangement to (1) uncouple the drive member from the driven member and (2) to drive the drive member in an opposite direction relative to the driven member.

  • Patent number: 4116744
Abstract: An apparatus associated with a tire building mandrel for controlling the movements of certain machine members in the delivery and applying of tire building stock to said mandrel. The various types of stock used in the building of a tire are stored in a servicer machine and such stock may be withdrawn and delivered to a building drum or mandrel by an operator during the assembly of a tire. The present apparatus is adapted to control and stop the rotational movements of said drum member at various points in its path of travel thereby allowing the delivery of desired stock length to the building mandrel. The tire building drum may be stopped at different points or locations in its path of travel and with respect to its starting point, the arrangement of which may be determined by the length of amount of stock being withdrawn from the servicer machine or source of supply.

  • Patent number: 4103569
Abstract: A programming cam indexing mechanism in which a rotatable programming cam, provided with a peripheral traction surface and a concentric inwardly facing track having one or more notches therein to define indexed programming positions, is rotatably driven by a capstan coupled with a drive shaft, the capstan being supported by a latch member pivotal on the drive shaft axis. The latch member is integrally formed to define a follower bracket and tab engageable with the inwardly facing track surface on the programming cam to hold the capstan in engagement with the peripheral traction surface thereof but to allow the capstan to swing away from driving engagement with the traction surface when the follower bracket tab drops into the positioning notches. A spring biasing means is provided by which the follower bracket tab is moved into the notches to latch the programming cam in any one of the indexed positions. Movement out of the notches is effected by solenoid activation.

  • Patent number: 4088045
Abstract: A machine is disclosed which incorporates a timing control for modifying the timing of a starter for feeding work blanks to a forming station and which features a manual control for applying a supplementary rotary input into a spindle operated differential having an output drivingly connected to the starter for effecting a desired change in the timing of starter movements in relation to a circular die fixed to the spindle at the forming station. In addition, a starter drive selector is provided having a manual interlock for selectively adjusting the number of starter operations for each revolution of the spindle and its circular die.

  • Patent number: 4028966
Abstract: A rotary index table wherein a detent oscillating about the table axis of rotation is translated radially inwardly during indexing and retracted radially outwardly during the return stroke of the detent, both actions being accomplished through a positive acting toggle link arrangement. The positive detent engagement with the table during indexing prevents table overtravel, and a locking detent is utilized to produce final table orientation. The table also includes expansible chamber motor means axially translating the table into a frictional locking engagement with its base.

  • Patent number: 3949977
Abstract: A staging apparatus for positioning articles to be serviced along a limited work path relative to an associated work station such as a cutting apparatus. Articles to be cut are staged on support arms of a carrier. The apparatus is structured such that rotation and translation of the carrier will result in each article being sequentially moved into the work path, moved along the work path and cut, and then moved out of the work path. The carrier is rotated and translated along paths defined by channels in a guide and followed by a follower connected to the carrier.
