Impinging Free Falling Molten Metal Stream Or Spray With A Gas Or Solid Agent Or Spraying (e.g., Atomizing, Etc.) Of Molten Metal Patents (Class 75/525)
  • Publication number: 20140190312
Abstract: A method for dephosphorising liquid hot metal, such as liquid blast furnace iron or liquid metal with a composition equivalent to blast furnace iron. A pouring stream of the hot metal discharges from a vessel containing the hot metal into a refining unit. In the refining unit one or more streams of additives for forming a molten slag and one or more gaseous streams for breaking up the pouring stream of hot metal into molten metal droplets are directed into the pouring stream. One or more of the gaseous streams and/or one or more of the streams of additives includes oxygen in gaseous form or in compounded form, to allow a dephosphorisation reaction between the metal droplets. The oxygen and molten slag during the fall of the molten droplets before collection into a receiving vessel positioned below the refining unit. An apparatus for performing the method.

  • Patent number: 6579340
Abstract: Fume dust is prevented when molten metal is poured into a vessel, and water spray of water mist is introduced into the vessel or onto the molten metal, creating a reduced level of oxygen concentration of about 12% by volume, preferably about 8% by volume, inside the vessel or at the molten metal surface.

  • Patent number: 4986847
Abstract: In a process for at least temporarily simultaneously subjecting a molten metal (5) in a metallurgical vessel (3) to the action of a gas and fine-grain solid materials, with a water-cooled first lance (17) for supplying the gas, in accordance with the invention the solid materials are supplied in the form of a conveyor stream (27) by way of a second lance (19). The solid materials are supplied in such a way that, after leaving the outlet opening (25) of the second lance (19), they are deflected by the gas (29) issuing from the outlet opening (23) of the first lance (17) and are supplied with said gas to the molten metal (5).
