Stropping Devices Patents (Class 76/81)
  • Patent number: 9314894
Abstract: A device for storing, sharpening, and cleaning a safety razor blade may include a polymer-based mat section, including at least one substantially plane surface, and one or more polymer-based holding elements adapted to hold a razor and the safety razor blade attached to the razor in a fixed relationship with the device. A device for sharpening and cleaning a safety razor blade may include a polymer-based mat, including at least one substantially plane surface, and a pair of guiding tracks arranged so that at least part of the polymer-based mat is arranged between the pair of guiding tracks. The pair of guiding tracks and the polymer-based mat may be arranged relative to each other in such a way that the pair of guiding tracks define a maximum allowed penetration depth of blades of the safety razor blade into the polymer-based mat.

  • Publication number: 20130055856
Abstract: The invention relates to a razor blade sharpener, which is manually operated and by means of which razor blades can be sharpened as needed in an easy, controlled, and even manner in order to reduce razor blade consumption. The construction is designed in such a way that the lateral guides push the blades evenly onto a padded lining made of plastic or leather.

  • Publication number: 20090000426
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for sharpening and cleaning a safety razor blade. The device comprises a polymer-based mat and either one or more polymer-based holding elements (21-24) for holding the safety razor blade in a fixed relationship with the device, or a pair of guiding tracks (4,4?) being arranged so that at least part of the polymer-based mat is arranged between said pair of guiding tracks. The guiding tracks and the polymer-based mat are arranged relative to each other in such a way that the guiding tracks define a maximum allowed penetration depth of the blades of the safety razor blade into the polymer-based mat. By applying the device and a method according to the present invention the lifetime of safety razor blades may be increased by a factor of up to five.

  • Patent number: 7287445
Abstract: An apparatus for manually steeling or conditioning the edge of a knife blade comprises a precision angle guide attached to a manual sharpening steel. The angle guide establishes a guiding surface that provides for sustained sliding or rolling contact with the face of the knife blade such that the plane of at least one edge facet adjacent to the edge of the blade is maintained at a precisely established angle relative to the plane of the sharpening steel surface at the contact point of the facet with the surface of the sharpening steel.

Abstract: An appliance for sharpening razor blades of the type held in a blade cartridge comprises a leather strop bonded onto a magnetic substrate that is in turn bonded onto a support. The width of the strop does not exceed the width of the blades in typical cartridges, so that the blades may rest on the strop when the cartridge is stroked over the strop to hone the blade edges. The surface of the strop is proud of the support surface adjacent the strop, to ensure that edges of the cartridge that are typically proud of the blades do not prevent contact of the blades with the strop. The ends of the strop are secured in undercut formations in the holder.

  • Patent number: 5239785
Abstract: A skate blade finishing tool includes a holder adapted to be hand-held by a user. The holder includes at least one slot therein. Arranged in the slot is a strip of leather. In use, the leather strip in the slot is rubbed along the length of a sharpened skate blade in a predetermined number of passes. The leather strip removes foreign material redeposited by skate sharpening processes and small burrs remaining on the blade surface and smooths the skate blade surfaces. When using the skate blade finishing tool to finish a skate blade, the detrimental effects of the sharpening process are removed to provide a safe skating blade that also permits improved skating performance when using the finished blade.

  • Patent number: 4967517
Abstract: A polishing method and apparatus is set forth utilizing an elongate stepped base assembly comprising a planar lower surface spaced below a a parallel upper surface. The upper surface includes a FIG. 8 recess therein defined by two overlapping cylindrical recesses. Each of the cylindrical recesses are of a predetermined diameter to receive a polishing rod defined by a diameter less than that of said predetermined diameter to be slidably received within each of said recesses. The polishing rod has secured thereto a first adhesive band adherably mounting a second adhesive strap onto a lowermost end surface of the polishing rod. A workpiece is adherably mounted to the second adhesive strap and directed interiorly of one of said cylindrical recesses subsequent to positioning a fabric polishing sheet containing polishing compound within the one cylindrical recess.
