Skate Patents (Class 76/83)
  • Patent number: 11478900
Abstract: A handheld skate blade sharpening tool that has an automatically indexing, rotating sharpening stone that matches the concaved profile of the skate blade retained within a two-piece body member. Screws hold the two-piece body member together to keep the round sharpening stone sized to match the desired concave profile. The sharpening stone will remove metal to match the shape of the stone each time the sharpener is moved back and forth along the blade. The sharpening stone has gears on each end of the stone that match the gears inside the two-piece body. As the tool is moved along the skate blade, the sharpening stone will incrementally rotate within the body when the direction is changed in the reciprocating motion by the user's back and for movement.

Abstract: A small sharpening device for ice skates that is intended to be carried in a person's pocket, which can be adjusted to fit and to sharpen all existing ice skates having either concave or flat-ground blades. The sharpener has two side pieces that form a gap to fit around the ice skate blade and a central flexible grinding cylinder that as the sharpener is moved back and forth along the skate blade adjusts to and sharpens either concave shaped blades or flat-ground blades. The round central cylinder can be replaced when worn out or when a polygon shaped grinding cylinder is required for certain flat-ground blades. The adjustable, parallel sides prevent the sharpener from rocking from side to side as the device is moved back and forth along the blade.

Abstract: A blade sharpener which has two elements, one of which is a hand-held member, and the other of which is a follower member is disclosed. The two members are pivotally secured each to the other, and secured at variable preselected pivot points so that adjustments can be made for the particular skate, and for the particular cross-section of the blade desired at various points along the power toe section, neutral under foot section, and turning heel section. Means are provided interiorly of the two members to optionally secure a file or a neutral member such as a wooden dowel to the end that varying portions of the blade can be sharpened while moving the hand-held member back and forth longitudinal of the blade. Guide means are supplied on both members for securing the relationship of the file or abrading member to the blade in a preselected centralized orientation.

Abstract: A bag member includes a central cavity, with the central cavity including a right and left cavity flap removably mounted to a first side wall of the bag exposing an ice skate receiving cavity. Each ice skate receiving cavity includes an ice skate support member, wherein the ice skate support member includes a "V" shaped groove for receiving an ice skate blade, with the "V" shaped groove including a sharpening stone positioned at an entrance of the groove to effect sharpening, as well as support, of the ice skate when positioned within the bag structure. A modification of the invention includes fluid reservoirs directing a lubricant fluid into the groove and associated ice skate blade to retard corrosion and promote longevity of the ice skate blade. Further, an indicator is utilized for illustrating proper positioning of each ice skate within each "V" shaped groove.

  • Patent number: 4665778
Abstract: A device for sharpening skis having metal edges is disclosed. The device employs at least two spaced apart edge sharpening tools, such as files, which straddle the ski edges. Each file is connected to a constant torque device. In this manner the edge sharpening tools are automatically brought into continuous contact with the lateral surfaces of the metal edges of the ski with an equal and constant pressure which is not dependent on the user's skills. In preferred embodiments the side files are symmetrically mounted, for example on rotatable arms so that regardless of the lateral pressure applied by the user while sliding the tool longitudinally on the ski, a uniform sharpening and filing pressure is applied to the entire length of the ski edge. The device also provides a support and positioning function for one or more smoothing tool, such as a flat file, which extends transversely across the bottom of the ski as the device is moved longitudinally along the ski.
