Ultraviolet Radiation Patents (Class 8/115.53)
  • Publication number: 20130086753
Abstract: A method for treating a fabric for protection from ultraviolet radiation is disclosed which comprises the steps of dispensing a suspension of zinc oxide particles treated with an acid polymer into a washing machine during a time in which a fabric is being washed in the washing machine and mixing the treated zinc oxide particles and the fabric for the treated zinc oxide particles to bind to the fabric. Other methods for treating a fabric for protection from ultraviolet radiation are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8157872
Abstract: A system, method and apparatus is disclosed for coloring a substantially wicking substrate comprising applying to a substantially wicking substrate an ink comprising a first dye and a second dye to define a region of reference; applying a first solvent to the substantially wicking substrate to move the first dye and the second dye within the body of the substantially wicking substrate; moving the two dyes in a defined direction to carry the two dyes outside of the defined region to color an area of the wicking substrate; coloring at least a portion of the substantially wicking substrate by allowing the first solvent to move through a portion of the first dye for a first distance from the defined point of origin of the ink and the second dye a second distance from the defined point of origin of the ink wherein the first distance is sufficiently different from the second distance to recognize a separation between the first dye and the second dye thereby coloring the substantially wicking substrate outside of th

Abstract: A system, method and apparatus is disclosed for coloring a substantially wicking substrate comprising applying to a substantially wicking substrate an ink comprising a first dye and a second dye applying a first solvent to the substantially wicking substrate to move the first dye and or the second dye in a defined direction coloring at least a portion of the substantially wicking substrate by allowing the first solvent to move through a portion of the first dye for a first distance from the point of origin of the ink and the second dye a second distance from the point of origin of the ink wherein the first distance is sufficiently different from the second distance to visualize a separation between the first dye and the second dye shaping a portion of the colored wicking substrate into a form and affixing the form onto a support for display.

  • Publication number: 20100304137
Abstract: An article is provided that includes a polymeric fiber that has an excess number of surface active reactive moieties relative to the number of surface reactive moieties found on the fiber in a native state. A particle is bonded covalently to the fiber through an intermediate coupling agent. Multiple particles can be covalently bonded to the fiber, the multiple particles can be bonded uniformly or asymmetrically around the fiber diameter. A process for modifying a fiber includes creating surface activated reactive moieties thereon. The activated fiber is then exposed to a liquid solution containing a coupling agent to form a covalent bond. The coupling agent is also reacted with a particle in a liquid solution to form a covalent bond between the coupling agent and the particle. The coupling agent is covalently bonded to either a particle and then bonded to the fiber, or vice versa.

  • Patent number: 7179848
Abstract: The invention concerns a method which consists in irradiating at least one face of the article with UV radiation, causing the article to be photodegraded over a thickness of at least 1 ?m, and in contacting the irradiated face of the article with a colouring agent so as to diffuse the colouring agent in the entire thickness of the photodegraded surface layer of the article. The invention is useful for optical and ophthalmologic articles.

  • Patent number: 6780827
Abstract: Aqueous dispersions (U) containing: (A) a UV-light-absorbing textile treatment agent, (B) a dispersant system and (C) a carboxyl-containing crosslinked copolymer, and optionally (D) at least one formulation additive, are useful for the corresponding UV-active finishing of textile material, in particular textile material which can be dyed with disperse dyes or optically brightened with disperse brighteners, especially for treating cheeses with liquors comprising disperse dyes and UV absorbers or liquors comprising disperse brighteners, without fear of troublesome pressure build-up or dye or brightener deposits.

  • Patent number: 6211308
Abstract: A method for coating a textile includes applying a substantially water-free, energy-curable, polymer-forming composition to the textile and exposing the textile and composition to a source of energy under such conditions as to generate chemically active sites on the surface of the textile and polymerize the composition. The resulting polymer is grafted onto the textile. Preferably, the energy is derived from electron beam radiation. The composition includes an epoxy oligomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated moieties, and at least one alkoxylated polyol monomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated moieties and capable of being copolymerized with the epoxy oligomer. Preferably, the composition also includes a surface active agent capable of rendering the uncured composition dispersible in water. Optionally, the composition can contain a colorant, and photoinitiator. The composition is especially suitable for use as a screen printing ink and coating material for textiles.
