    Abstract: Decorative foamed articles are prepared from foamed pellets, beads, particles, or other articles of a thermoplastic elastomer infused with a supercritical fluid in a pressurized container, then rapidly depressurized and heated either by immersion in a heated fluid that can rapidly heat the article or with infrared or microwave radiation to heat and foam the pellets, beads, particles, or other articles that are then molded into the articles. The pellets are dyed with a nonionic or anionic dye one of: (1) before being infused with the supercritical fluid, (2) during being infused with the supercritical fluid by a nonionic or anionic dye dissolved or dispersed in the supercritical fluid, which optionally comprises a polar liquid, (3) during immersion in the heated fluid, where the heated fluid contains the dye, or (4) after being foamed.

    Abstract: A method of infusing a dye into the surface of an article formed of a plastic material comprises contacting the surface with a solution including one or more solvents each aggressive to the plastic material, one or more dyes and one or more substances each capable of plasticizing the plastic material. If the plastic material is polycarbonate, then the aggressive solvent may be one or more chlorinated hydrocarbons. The dye may be a photochromic dye, a cosmetic tinting dye, dyes for absorbing infrared, laser and ultraviolet radiation, or combinations thereof. A wide range of plasticizers has been investigated. The article is contacted by the solution for ten seconds to one minute; and nearly all the infused solvent is then evaporated from the article by heating. The use of one or more plasticizers reduces or eliminates bubbling or hazing of the contacted surface during solvent evaporation.

Textile materials which have been dyed with the aid of this method have properties which are at least equal to those of textile materials of the same type which have been dyed in the traditional manner using water-soluble dyestuffs. A device for carrying out the dyeing method is also disclosed.

    Abstract: This is a method for producing multi-colored polyamide dyeings which is particularly useful in the multi-colored dyeing of polyamide carpets. In this method, a three-component dyeing system is employed which comprises a fiber reactive dye, an anionic resist and an acid-type dye. The anionic resist is a water-soluble, fiber substantative compound which displaces and/or prevents the fiber-reactive dye form fixing in that portion of the carpet which has been treated with the resist. The anionic resist, however, will not displace the acid-type dye component nor does it prevent fixation of the acid-type dye component. The invention may be practiced by first printing the polyamide substrate in a predetermined pattern with a printing paste containing the acid-type dye and the anionic resist. The substrate is then flooded or blotch printed with the fiber reactive dye and steamed to fix the dyes. Alternatively, the substrate may be first flooded or blotch printed with the fiber reactive dye.

    Abstract: In the conventional discharge printing on polyamide fiber materials using acid dyes, above all, the very low wet and light fastness properties of the designs obtained in this manner are frequently an obstacle to the wide expansion of this interesting technique in practice. Applying this known patterning method for wool or nylon to resist prints made with reactive dyes being distinguished by better fastness level, does not always produce satisfactory white resist effects when, for example, sulfite compounds as the resist agent and reactive dyes having esterified .beta.-hydroxyethylsulfonyl groups as the reactive radical are taken into consideration; colored effects having a bright hue are not even possible at all in various cases.

    Abstract: A process for the production of resist prints under reactive dyes on textile materials which consist of cellulose fibers or a blend of cellulose fibers with other fibers, using reaction products of bisulfite adducts of aldehydes of 2 to 6 carbon atoms, or of ketones, with ammonia, primary amines or secondary amines in the molar ratio of from 3:1 to 1:1 as resists. Preferably, reaction products of a bisulfite adduct of acetaldehyde and ammonia in the molar ratio of from 3:1 to 1:1 are employed as resists. Because of the high stability of the resist print pastes, high color yields of the resist dye and satisfactory, reproducible resist effects of the ground dye are achieved.
