Publication number: 20030192136Abstract: Method for forming a dye sublimation image in a substrate, particularly a plastic substrate, and apparatus to perform the method. According to the method taught by the present invention, a substrate is disposed on a perforated platen and a dye carrier having an image formed thereon of a dye sublimation ink is disposed on the substrate such that the image is in contact with the substrate. The substrate, dye carrier and at least a portion of the perforated platen are then covered with a flexible membrane. A clamping pressure is then applied to the substrate and the dye carrier through the membrane. Once the clamping pressure is attained, the substrate and dye carrier are first heated, then cooled.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2001Publication date: October 16, 2003Inventors: Ted N. Patent number: 5298031Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved method for embossing and decorating a thermoplastic velvet-like fabric. A transfer sheet supporting a thermally-activated decoration is simultaneously passed with a fabric between two rolls which are under pressure with respect to each other. At least one of the rolls is engraved so as to cause embossing of the fabric. The passing of the fabric and transfer sheet between the rolls is carried out at a temperature sufficient to activate the decoration and allow the transfer of the decoration to the embossed portions of the fabric. The fabric may be heated prior to the embossing-decorating step so that the velvet-like pile is at least partially plasticized. The fabric is then brushed to erect the pile to an erect position. If the decorating is printing, the fabric may be heated immediately before and after the embossing/printing step to transfer a sufficient amount of dye, and to penetrate and seal the dye within the fabric.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1992Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: Malden Mills Industries Inc.Inventors: Amnon Gabay, Amiram Inbal, Moshe Rock, Lloyd Pease, Robert Ryan, Yechiel Naor

Patent number: 4548611Abstract: A method and apparatus for dyeing or otherwise treating yarns wherein the yarn is made into a substrate having tranvsersely laid yarns, foamed dye is placed on the substrate, and the foamed substrate is impacted to cause penetration of the foam through the substrate. The apparatus may include a hammer-like impactor acting against an anvil for impacting the foamed substrate, and the impactor may be driven by mechanical arrangements, or by ultrasonic sound drive means. The apparatus may also include impacting rollers wherein the diameter of the roller is small, and the rate of rotation high, so the rate of increase in pressure on the substrate by the rollers is equal to impaction.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1983Date of Patent: October 22, 1985Inventors: James G. Patent number: 4451263Abstract: The very economical padding methods for applying liquid treatment agents and which have largely become established for flat-lying material are also interesting for dyeing and finishing tubular textile material. In the latter case, the use of this technique is however opposed by the finding that on impregnating circular-knitted goods on a pad mangle the squeeze edges are marked on both sides of the tube, which gives rise, for example, to undesirable color differences. According to the invention, this adverse phenomenon and the problems arising therefrom can be avoided if, through maintaining a relatively high liquor pick-up by the textile material and through mechanical shifting of the edges, the liquor is enabled to level out any unevenness produced on squeezing.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1982Date of Patent: May 29, 1984Assignee: Hoechst AktiengesellschaftInventors: Peter Oppitz, Manfred Schulze-Braucks, Rolf Tesche
