Patent number: 6451071Abstract: This invention relates to colorants comprising organic chromophores, in particular reactive dyes, which comprise electrophilic reactive groups, and which are also covalently bonded to fatty amine moieties through amino linking groups. Such colorants provide excellent colorability and long-term stability, both within (or on) colored substrates and upon long-term storage. Such colorants exhibit particularly good coloring and stability within hydrocarbon compositions, such as fuels, mineral oil, and the like, and wax compositions, including candles, crayons, and the like. Methods of making such colorants as well as methods of coloring hydrocarbon and wax compositions are also contemplated within this invention.Type: GrantFiled: March 28, 2000Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: Milliken & CompanyInventor: John D. Bruhnke

Patent number: 5882356Abstract: The fibrillation tendency of solvent-spun cellulose fiber is reduced by treating the previously dried fiber with a chemical reagent containing at least two functional groups which are reactive with cellulose and which are electrophilic carbon--carbon double bonds, particularly vinyl sulfone groups, or precursors thereof or electrophilic three-membered heterocyclic rings or precursors thereof. The chemical reagent is preferably colorless and is preferably applied to the fiber from aqueous solution. The fiber may be contained in a woven or knotted fabric.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1997Date of Patent: March 16, 1999Assignee: Courtaulds Fibres (Holdings) LimitedInventor: Christopher David Potter

Patent number: 4351638Abstract: Cotton-containing toweling is dyed in a dye bath solution containing a coloring amount of at least one phosphonic acid fiber reactive dye together with sufficient acids such that the fiber reactive dye reacts with and attaches to the cotton of the toweling. The deybath-saturated toweling is passed through a high expression roll until the wet pickup is in the range of about 40-55 percent wpu, and then the toweling is heated to a temperature of at least 200 degrees F. for a time sufficient to fix the dye onto the cotton producing a fully penetrated, evenly dyed toweling. The toweling may be printed in a predetermined pattern with a print paste after passage through a high expression roll and before final heating.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1981Date of Patent: September 28, 1982Assignee: Burlington Industries, Inc.Inventors: James E.
