    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing aqueous liquor dyeable modified polypropylene threads. The inventive method is characterized in that a CR polypropylene suitable for fiber formation is mixed with a reaction partner which can react with CR polypropylene and the mixture obtained is processed in an extrusion spinning facility to form a thread. Suitable reaction partners are difunctional carboxylic acids, corresponding carboxylic acid derivatives or master batches made of polypropylene and difunctional carboxylic acids or corresponding carboxylic acid derivatives. The polypropylene threads obtained can be knitted to form textile fabrics. The polypropylene threads and textile fabrics can be dyed with the usual coloring agents according to a standard aqueous liquor extrusion process.

    Abstract: A method for maintaining the hydrophobicity of a hydrophobic polyolefin textile material over time and use. The method includes providing a solution having a pH level between 3.5 and 5.9, subjecting the hydrophobic polyolefin textile material to the solution, and drying. The processed hydrophobic polyolefin textile material maintains hydrophobicity with a contact angle with water of at least 90 degrees permanently. The processed hydrophobic polyolefin fabric can be used in a monolayer or bilayer configuration. The processed hydrophobic polyolefin fabric improves the water vapor transfer through the processed fabric because the processed hydrophobic polyolefin fabric does not saturate, wick or swell with liquid perspiration thereby reducing water liquid attached to fabric pores which increases the volume of space for diffusion of perspiration vapor from the skin, through the fabric, to the outside ambient air. The result is a drier, more comfortable processed garment.

    Abstract: An improved method of dyeing a polyolefin material, and preferably a polypropylene based fiber, involves a disperse dye mix including a selected plurality of disperse dyes from the same primary color group. Each dye within the mix and the concentration of each dye within the mix is selected by testing individual disperse dye solutions with an undyed sample and determining the maximum dye concentration which will produce an acceptable crocking test for that dye. A plurality of disperse dyes within the mix are each at a concentration of at least 75% of the maximum dye concentration for that individual dye. The selected dye mix is used to prepare a disperse dye mix solution which is then contacted with the polyolefin material to reliably dye the material without fastness problems. A red dye mix, a blue dye mix, and the yellow dye mix may each be prepared and may each be separately used to dye polypropylene fibers with relatively dark shade without crocking problems.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a colored high-tenacity fiber of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene which is obtainable by spinning a solution of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and a dye for coloration to form solvent-containing filaments and drawing the solvent-containing filaments. The colored high-tenacity fiber of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene has a tensile strength of at least 28 g/d and a tensile modulus of at least 700 g/d. The dye is substantially soluble in the solvent at the melting point of solvent-containing filaments which are obtained by spinning a solution of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and the dye is substantially uniformly dispersed in the core portion of the fiber. Also disclosed is a process for producing a colored high-tenacity fiber of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene.

    Abstract: Compositions of ethylene alkyl acrylate grafted onto polypropylene are dyeable with disperse or cationic dyes. A small amount of polyester may be include, along with a hydrophilic modifier comprising a monoglyceride and a salt of a liner alkyl. The hydrophilic modifier also acts as a compatibilizer to bridge the polyester and the polypropylene. A process for dyeing polypropylene fibers comprises combining the polypropylene with a thermoplastic copolymer of ethylene and alkyl acrylates having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl group into fibers, adding the polyester to the polypropylene matrix, spinning the composition into fibers, and exposing the fibers to a dye bath. The sulfonic group may be added to the polyester for exposing the fibers to a cationic dye.

    Abstract: A method of dyeing polypropylene fiber to create areas of different color on the fiber. A first dye solution containing a disperse dye and a dye-promoting agent is applied to substantially the entire surface of the fiber to cover the fiber with a first color. Thereafter, and while the fiber surface is still wet with the first dye solution, a second dye solution containing a disperse dye of a second color is applied only to selected discontinuous areas of the fiber. The second dye solution displaces the first dye solution in those areas of the fiber surface to which the second dye solution is applied. Then, the fiber is subjected to an elevated temperature high enough, and for a period of time sufficient, to fix the dyes in the fiber. Preferably, the second dye solution is more viscous than the first dye solution. After the dye fixation step, the fiber is scoured to remove excess dye. If desired, the second dye solution also contains a dye-promoting agent.

    Abstract: A process for the dyeing of polymers of propylene, butene-1 and 4-methyl-pentent-1 is disclosed. The process involves contacting articles of the polymer with an aqueous dyebath containing a basic dye in a concentration of at least 0.4 g/l and at a pH of at least 5.0. The temperature of the aqueous dyebath is at least 90.degree. C. The article is maintained in contact with the dyebath for at least 10 minutes. The polymer of propylene is preferably a blend of 50-99 parts of a homopolymer of propylene or copolymer of propylene and ethylene with 1-50 parts of a zinc ionomer or graft copolymer of a hydrocarbon alpha-olefin with an alpha-olefin having carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid anhydride. Dyed polymers are obtained.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for continuous dyeing of filaments based on atactic polyvinyl chloride in the course of production.It comprises, in succession, the phases of drawing, impregnation of the filaments by padding while, at the time of the impregnation, the filaments have a density of between 1.3 and 1.4 g/cm.sup.3 (the filament roving having a water content of 10 to 30% by weight), of stabilization under tension in the presence of steam under pressure at a temperature between 100.degree. and 130.degree. C. for 2 to 20 seconds, and then oiling and shrinking in a known manner.Dyeing carried out in this manner is quick and makes it possible to produce colors having good fastness.
