Patent number: 4689045Abstract: A dry fibrous product made from modified cellulose, having improved properties of absorption and water and physiological liquid retention, as well as its production procedure. The cellulose contained in a cellulose paste is activated, acrylonitrile is grafted to the cellulose while its dry content is sufficient to obtain a grafting rate of about 200%; the grafted cellulose paste is hydrolyzed with an alkali; the product is washed with water until a state of maximum expansion is reached; the product is acidified to a pH which brings it to a state of minimum expansion after the water is removed; the product is converted to its salt form in the presence of a water-miscible liquid, and under an agitation which is sufficient to prevent the clustering of the fibers; this is effected so that the quantity of water, expressed by volume, does not exceed about 10% of the liquid phase; the product is dried.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1985Date of Patent: August 25, 1987Assignee: La Cellulose du PinInventors: Sylviane Armagnacq, Michel Bol

Patent number: 4286964Abstract: A process for preparing a derivative of an hydroxyl bearing substrate by reacting an hydroxyl bearing substrate with oxirane bearing molecules to produce an oxirane ring bearing substrate; and reacting the oxirane ring with a substituted primary aromatic amine selected from primary aromatic amine alcohols and primary aromatic amine thiols. Among the compositions so produced is a stable modified hydroxyl bearing substrate or hydroxyl bearing sheet having covalently bonded thereto primary aromatic amines which can be diazotized. The diazotized substrate selectively, covalently binds proteins, polypeptides, peptides, nucleic acids, RNA, single stranded DNA, and nucleic acid hybrids.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1979Date of Patent: September 1, 1981Inventor: Brian S. Patent number: 4160064Abstract: An epoxy adhesive sealant composition comprised of an uncured epoxy resin composition and a composition capable of curing the epoxy resin composition, one of said compositions containing a coloring agent effective to impart latently transient color to said composition unlike the color of the non-colored composition. Substantially equal amounts of each of said compositions are combined to form a substantially uniformly colored composition which becomes essentially colorless with curing of the epoxy resin composition.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1977Date of Patent: July 3, 1979Assignee: Theodore R. FlintInventor: Edward A. Nodiff

Patent number: 4128398Abstract: A processing aid is used to improve worsted and woolen processes. In the worsted process, pretreatment of wool tops with the processing aid prior to dyeing preserves fiber strength and softness. In the woolen process, addition of the processing aid to the carbonizing bath permits reduction in sulfuric acid concentration, enhances destruction of vegetable matter, and produces whiter, cleaner fiber and preserves fiber strength. If desired, the processing aid may also be introduced in the final rinse after wool scouring in either worsted or woolen processes. The preferred processing agent is epoxidized chain extended polyamide.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 1976Date of Patent: December 5, 1978Assignee: Diamond Shamrock CorporationInventor: Mel Alpert

Patent number: 4116625Abstract: A process for modifying a fibrous product containing cellulosic fibers which comprises treating said fibrous product with a solution or dispersion containing a particular acrylic copolymer having a glycidyl group and an alkylene oxide sidechain, drying the fibrous product; and heat-treating it in the presence of an acid catalyst at a temperature sufficient to cleave the oxirane linkage of the glycidyl group. This process can impart superior dry and wet crease resistances, shrinkage resistance and wash and wear properties and also soil removing ability, resistance to redeposition, water absorption and water penetrability to fibrous products containing cellulosic fibers while retaining their mechanical strength characterics.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1976Date of Patent: September 26, 1978Assignee: Daido-Maruta Finishing Co., Ltd.Inventor: Kazuhide Yamamoto

Patent number: 4098842Abstract: Polymers reactive towards free amino groups, such as polyamides, polyureas, polyurethanes or polyesters, are provided with durable modified properties by being brought into contact with an additive polymeric material which (a) is compatible with the polymer being treated, (b) contains a plurality of oxyalkylene groups effective to impart to the modified polymer improved properties such as reduced static propensity, modified dyeability, or greater water absorbency; and (c) has one or more reactive sites, in the form of a pendant free primary amino group or potential primary amino group, blocked by the dehydration of an aldehyde or a ketone with the amine, which in either case affords the capability in proper circumstances of attaching the modifying polymeric material to the polymer being treated by a covalent chemical bond.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1976Date of Patent: July 4, 1978Assignee: BASF Wyandotte CorporationInventor: Robert B. Patent number: 4097643Abstract: An improved composition is disclosed which consists of organic resins and silanes. The compositions are useful finishing resins for textiles, fibers and paper. An example of the improved composition is a copolymer resin containing at least one type of acrylic acid ester combined with at least one type of unsaturated aliphatic acid and, a silane containing epoxy groups.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1977Date of Patent: June 27, 1978Assignee: Toray Silicone Company, Ltd.Inventor: Yoshiyuki Hasegawa
