Abstract: An open-end ratchet wrench includes a housing defining a handle and a head with an open mouth for receiving first and second elements of a work piece therein. A fixed jaw member on the wrench engages the first element and a moving jaw member engages the second element of the work piece. A squeeze lever is operable to rotate the moving jaw member about a center axis of rotation selectively in either a clockwise or counterclockwise movement, to thereby tighten or loosen the second element relative to the first element. An engagement assembly operates the moving jaw member between an operable position in engagement with the work piece and a retracted position, wherein the jaw member moves away from the center axis of rotation to back off and release from operative engagement with the second element, thereby allowing removal of the wrench from the work piece.

Abstract: With a blade exchanging device, a cylindrical body is engaged with a nut that is fastened to a spindle, and at the same time the nut is held by fitting nails of a chuck member with grooves that are formed on the nut. Next, a torque wrench is inserted through the cylindrical body, and a polygonal head of the torque wrench is engaged with a polygonal hole formed in the head of the spindle. In this state, the spindle is rotated with the torque wrench in a direction to unfasten the nut from the spindle. The nut is thereby detached from the spindle. When the cylindrical body is disengaged from the spindle, the nut is prevented from falling off the cylindrical body, since the nails of the chuck hold the nut.

Abstract: A machine for clamping material to be fastened and automatically installing screws has been disclosed through a method of a self loading barrel that also aligns the screw to be installed thus relieving the operator of the strain of holding an unstable screw in place during the driving phase. This machine also automatically provides the force needed to keep the fastener from stripping at the head driver connection point through its unique design and also relieving the operator of much of the work related strain associated with these operations. This tool also provides another benefit in its design by automatically clamping the material during the fastening operation, that would normally have to be done separately with another tool. Another embodiment permits single loading of fasteners into the barrel.

Abstract: A fastening assistance structure has a bolt hole for passing therethrough a threaded portion of a bolt, a seat face for engaging a head seat face of the bolt, and a partition wall for guiding the bolt into the bolt hole. A bolt inlet which is open at an end of the partition wall lies flush with an end face of a bulge. Even when the bolt hole is positioned behind the bulge, the bolt inlet can be seen, and the bolt can be inserted from the bolt inlet into the partition wall. If the partition wall has an inner wall of a tapered shape progressively smaller in diameter toward the bolt hole, then the bolt can easily be inserted along the inner wall of the partition wall into the bolt hole.

  • Patent number: 6666116
Abstract: A self-supporting retaining device for retaining the head or nut of a threaded fastener assembly. A first portion of the device has a retaining component, such as a socket, for engaging the head or nut. A second portion of the device is adapted to engage a structure or feature that neighbors the location of the fastener assembly. Once the retaining component is mated to the head or nut of the fastener assembly, the second portion of the device is releasably engaged with the neighboring structure. The engagement of the second portion with the neighboring structure permits the position of the device to be independently maintained. The retaining component retains the associated head or nut, thereby allowing a user of the device to tighten or loosen the fastener assembly by manipulating only the head or nut located at the opposite end thereof. The device may then be disengaged from the fastener assembly and neighboring structure.

Abstract: A reaction cam system for use as a release system in a torquing process. The reaction cam applies a reaction force to a backup wrench coupled between a head of a fastener and an adjacent component. The reaction cam is positioned against the backup wrench and has an inner sleeve removably coupled to a head of the fastener. An eccentrically mounted cam housing is rotatably supported about the inner sleeve. The cam housing is positioned prior to the torquing process being initiated such that a high point of the housing faces a portion of the backup wrench. After the torquing process is complete and the backup wrench is forced tightly into contact with the cam housing, the cam housing can be rotated such that a gap is created between the backup wrench and reaction cam. The reaction cam then can be easily removed from the adjacent component and the backup wrench easily removed from the fastener.
