  • Patent number: 9186780
Abstract: A tool for actuating hammer unions. The tool provides for an arcuate tool head having an aperture which receives the lug or tab of the union. Extending outwardly from the arcuate tool head is a lever member which is designed to receive a handle [selected by the user for appropriate length and torque] for the user to hold and apply the necessary amount of torque to tighten or loosen the hammer union. By receiving the tab in the arcuate head, the user is precluded from damaging the tabs or lugs since no impact is received by the latter and a maximum amount of work can be done safely by the user. Structural features are also provided to prevent improper use of the tool.

Abstract: The Multi-Task-Tool provides more positive control of clamp-action-mounted power distribution devices while placing, tightening, loosening and removing the devices from their intended receivers, including but not limited to power lines and taps, and it may be attached to common extension sticks for long reach. Many electrical power distribution devices are secured in position directly or indirectly by a threaded fastener which is most often an eye bolt. The tool body receives and contains the eye bolt and a portion of the shank giving leverage to control the device. Once the distribution device is in place the tool is then rotated to position internal rails on each side of the eye and then pulled down to seat the eye against its aperture cap. Internal rails provide stops to transmit rotational force to the eye bolt in either direction. The tool may be modified to work with other fastener heads.

The proximal end of the handles may be covered in an electrically insulating material in order to aid in insulating the hands of the user from electrical shock and cushion the grip of the tool. A jaw member of thin cross-section may be affixed to the distal end of the handles or formed in the distal end of the handles. The unique shape of the portion of each jaw member grips the locknut. Each jaw member is designed in such a manner that, when the hand tool's handles are closed, each jaw member independently engages one or more of the locknut protrusions. A method of tightening and loosening locknuts using a hand tool with the distal end of the handles forming a shaped jaw member for gripping the locknut.

  • Patent number: 7168343
Abstract: A limited access building connection for connecting a holding structure and a held structure which includes an anchor member having a threaded end adapted for connection to holding structure. A nut having an inner threaded wall threadably engages the threaded end of anchor member. Nut has a base which engages connector structure. Connector structure is adapted for connection to held structure. A nut rotational member is provided for imparting rotational motion to nut. Connection has dimensional limited access parameters existent between nut and connector structure and held structure. A linear power member is dimensioned and configured to work within the dimensional limited access parameters and is adapted for engaging and imparting rotational energy to nut rotational member.

  • Patent number: 6997085
Abstract: A threaded fastener capable of being reduced in size and weight. A pair of side wall surfaces of each of six radially outwardly projecting, torque transmitting portions lie on straight lines passing through the center line in a cross section perpendicular to the center line so as to transmit torque through the side wall surface, whereby the direction of a surface orthogonal force N applied to a force-applied point P by a wrenching tool coincides with the direction of an effective wrenching force F. This arrangement reduces an operation force required for rotating the wrenching tool and accordingly the load acting on each of the torque transmitting portions, in comparison with a conventional hexagonal head. That is, it is possible to reduce the diameter of the head portion of the threaded fastener and the size and weight of the head portion, while avoiding deformation of the side wall surfaces through which the torque is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6912936
Abstract: A holding tool is used to connect or disconnect a water pump pulley and a fan clutch. The water pump pulley is attached by a threaded shaft to a connector on the fan clutch, and the pulley has at least a pair of fasteners each with an exposed fastener head that extends from the pulley's surface which is next to the fan clutch. A head of the tool is inserted into a narrow space between the pulley's surface and the fan clutch. The tool head is narrow enough to fit into this space. This tool head includes a hook element at an end of a straight edge lever element. While grasping a fastener head of one fastener with the hook element and engaging a fastener head of another fastener with the straight edge lever element, a second tool is inserted into the narrow space to grasp the connector on the fan clutch. While both tools are engaged, one or both the tools are turned to disconnect or connect the threaded shaft of water pump pulley and the connector on a fan clutch.
