The end of the extension is preferably a standard 3/8" square drive plug for mounting an appropriately sized 3/8" drive socket or plug for removal of the reservoir drain plug. The choice of socket or plug to be mounted to the extension depends on the configuration of the drain plug. The opposite end of the wrench extension has a socket for adapting to a preferred 3/8" driver. In operation, the wrench extension is passed through the access to the funnel interior, and the appropriate sized socket or plug is placed on the 3/8" drive end of the wrench extension.

The device also has a clamp mechanism which is provided on an end of the head of the torque wrench structure and capable of clamping stem portions of a variety of types of wrenches by a resilient force exerted by a spring. The torque wrench structure may have an adapter support portion formed on one end of the head integrally therewith. In such a case, the torque wrench structure can be used together with an adapter engaged and held by the adapter support portion in such a manner as to allow adjustment of the position of the fulcrum at which the adapter is held by the torque wrench structure.

A torque extension handle is releasably mounted to the upper end of the main body and is provided with short and long lever arms selectable for gripping by the user to obtain the desired torque. Finger holes are provided in the torque extension handle for rapid rotation of the tool for insertion or removal of a screw, bolt or the like when only very light friction is encountered. An opposite arm of the torque extension handle is easily removed and can be replaced by another torque extension arm.

    Abstract: An alignment sleeve for use with an universal joint-type socket wrench which provides for self-alignment of the wrench with the nut or bolt to be turned. The sleeve includes an integral piece of highly resilient rubber molded into a hollow cylindrical shape and sized to fit snugly around the main body of the universal joint. At least one pair of semi-elliptical shaped ribs are molded into the inner surface of the opposed walls of the sleeve and adapted to interlock with the base member of the universal joint. The self-locking ribs eliminate the need for additional securing means such as clamps or adhesive. Thus, the sleeve may be installed and removed without the use of any other tools. In addition, the upper rim of the sleeve is provided with means to prevent pinching of the sleeve between the universal joint and socket where the sleeve is slightly longer than the body of the universal joint to which it is applied.

    Abstract: A molded elastomeric sleeve is carried by the rearward portion of a wrench socket. The sleeve has size indicia molded directly thereon (and may also be color coded) thereby facilitating a quick and convenient identification and selection of the respective socket from a tool box or kit. Suitable knurls on the outer diameter of the sleeve facilitate a manual rotation of the socket for seating a nut or bolt, prior to torquing with a conventional ratchet wrench. The knurls also prevent the socket from rolling, if placed sideways on a flat surface. Preferably, the rearward portion of the socket has a reduced diameter, thereby forming an annular shoulder between the forward and rearward portions of the socket, and the sleeve abuts against the annular shoulder. In an alternate embodiment, the sleeve is keyed to the socket, preferably by a "double dee" configuration, to prevent slippage or relative rotation between the socket and sleeve.
