Abstract: A universal tool which can be a screwdriver, wrench, pliers, or any other tool. The tool can operate on an object (e.g., a screw, bolt, etc.) of any shape because of a set of pins that can mold to match a shape of the object. For example, a same universal screwdriver has pegs which mold themselves to match a shape of a slotted screw head or mold themselves to match a shape of a philips screw head. A user of the universal screwdriver can then turn such screw by turning the universal screwdriver in a standard fashion. When the universal screwdriver is removed from the object, then the pegs automatically revert themselves to a default position so a different shaped screw head can then be operated on.

  • Patent number: 6732615
Abstract: A multiple-size nut driver comprising a socket portion and a handle connected to the socket portion for rotating the socket portion. The socket portion includes a plurality of concentric hexagonal sockets slidably mounted along a longitudinal axis of the driver. Each of the sockets slide between a forward operative position and a rearward retracted position. The handle includes a socket selector mounted behind the plurality of concentric hexagonal sockets. The socket selector holds a selected socket in the forward operative position while allowing unselected sockets to retract to the rearward retracted position. The selected socket is then placed over a nut, and turns the nut when the socket portion is rotated by the handle. Alternatively, the driver automatically selects the proper socket for a given nut by allowing sockets smaller than the nut to be retracted by the nut while the proper size socket and larger remain extended.

  • Patent number: 6647831
Abstract: An adaptor device includes an adaptor and a retainer. The adaptor includes a first end removably mounted in a box end of a wrench and a second end releasably engaged with an object such as a tool bit. The retainer is fixed to the first end of the adaptor and includes at least two resilient retaining sections on an outer periphery thereof. A slit is defined between two resilient retaining sections that are adjacent to each other. The resilient retaining sections abut against an edge of the box end of the wrench, thereby providing an engaging force between the resilient retaining sections and the edge of the box end that is greater than an engaging force between the adaptor and the tool bit. Thus, the tool bit can be disengaged from the adaptor without causing disengagement of the adaptor from the box end of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 6637298
Abstract: A socket mounted on the actuating handle of a socket wrench. The socket includes a hollow body member housing a number of individual sockets, which individual sockets can be moved inwards into the hollow body member to provide a socket of the correct size to engage a hexagonal bolt or nut. There is thus no longer the need to provide a number of sockets for placing on the socket wrench. The one socket will accommodate a large number of sizes.

Abstract: A low-profile wrench. An elongate, axially asymmetric housing encloses two turning members have axes of rotation that are angled with respect to one another. One of the turning members, whose axis is oriented in the elongate dimension of the housing, receives a turning force and transmits the turning force to the other turning member. The second turning member is adapted to be coupled to a fastener, for turning the fastener.

  • Patent number: 6467379
Abstract: An adjustable socket for engaging various sized fastener projections such as hexagonal nuts, includes a socket body with a cavity having a spring-biased plate pushing nested and concentrically positioned sliding sleeves toward the socket opening and their first position. A retainer member restrains the outer sleeve and offset lower sleeve ends form interlocking shoulders to restrain the inner sleeves. Magnetic strip pairs are between the sleeves and integrated therewith to form magnetic couples when the sleeves are in the first position. The intrusion of a nut will encounter one or more of the smaller sleeves and shear the magnetic coupling between the largest of the smaller sleeves and the next largest sleeve. Magnetic couplings between the larger sleeves are maintained during the downward displacement of the smaller sleeves thus keeping such sleeves in the first position. The sleeve bore shapes can be chosen to engage all shapes of fastener projections.

  • Patent number: 6397706
Abstract: A socket adapted to torque a head of a hardware fastener is presented. The hardware having a predetermined size and an associated counter bore with a predetermined diameter per the SAE Standard cited as: “Wrench Clearance, Table 3, SAE Aeronautical Drafting Manual, 1954 edition, page Y4.04”. The socket comprises a drive portion adopted to engage a socket drive tool, and a hardware portion attached to the drive portion. The hardware portion includes a metallic outer sleeve having an outside diameter which is sized to fit into the associated counter bore of the hardware, and a non-marring inner lining disposed within the outer sleeve. The inner lining includes a hardware torquing hole located at a distal end of the socket, and sized to fit over the head of the hardware to provide torquing to the hardware without marring the hardware.
