Patent number: 8479618Abstract: The pair of locking pliers contains a seesaw member pivotally joined to a back end of a first handle; and an adjustment member capable of sliding up and down within the first handle. The adjustment member contains an adjustment body and an adjustment bolt axially and rotatably threading through the adjustment body. The seesaw member contains a seesaw handle and a torsion spring engaging the seesaw handle so that a first chain of teeth of the seesaw handle engages or disengages a second chain of teeth along the adjustment body to lock the adjustment body or to allow the adjustment body to slide up and down. When the adjustment body slides, a spacing between the jaws of the locking pliers are adjusted quickly. When the adjustment body is locked by the seesaw handle, the adjustment bolt is twisted to fine-tune the jaw spacing.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2010Date of Patent: July 9, 2013Inventor: Kuei-Chueh Hsiao

Publication number: 20110113935Abstract: An improved locking wrench is provided. The improved locking wrench includes a stationary upper handle which includes a fixed upper jaw, and a lower jaw pivotally connected to said upper handle so that said lower jaw is in opposition to and pivotally movable towards and away from said upper jaw. A lower operating handle having a distal end pivotally is connected to said lower jaw and movable between closed and opened positions which responsively pivotally moves said lower jaw towards and away from said upper jaw. A toggle lever is pivotally coupled at one end to said lower operating handle and has an opposite end coupled operatively to said upper handle.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2009Publication date: May 19, 2011Inventor: Kyle Hall

Patent number: 7793570Abstract: A hand tool having first and second plier units attached to one another where a jaw region is operatively configured to have a work piece to be placed therein and a handle region is configured to be used by the user of the tool to grasp the work piece. A tension member is provided to be positioned past a dead point axis so as to apply a clamping force upon the jaw member and the hand tool maintains a grip upon the work piece without continuous interaction with the user of the tool.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2008Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Brigham Young UniversityInventors: Christopher Andrew Mattson, Brian G. Patent number: 6450070Abstract: A locking plier tool of the threaded shaft design which has an adjustment dial located in the midbody of the fixed handle. This dial location affords the operator the ability to adjust the jaw gap of the tool with the thumb digit while simultaneously handling the plier body with the finger digits of the same hand, making the jaw gap adjustment a one hand operation.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2001Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Inventors: John Andrew Winkler, William Edward Ringer

Patent number: 4884479Abstract: A wrench of the type having one handle member connected to a pivotal arm member at a pivot point. The handle member, and the pivot arm member terminate in a jaw member, the jaw in the handle member being fixed. Advancing a screw member causes the pivot arm member to rotate about the pivot point so that the jaw members are brought together. A pair of slots translate the rotating motion of the pivot arm member about the pivot point into linear components. The jaw member at the end of the handle member and the pivot arm member are biased apart from one another by a spring, but the bias may be overcome by squeezing the handle and pivot arm member or by advancing the screw member. When the screw member is fully retracted, the spring separates the jaw members. When the screw member is advanced, it prevents separation of the jaw members.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1988Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Inventor: Thomas J. Mazzone
