  • Patent number: 4813310
Abstract: A pliers having interchangeable and replaceable jaws. Each shank of the pliers have an outwardly projecting stud formed opposite the handle end thereof. A slot is formed in the jaw end of each shank. The slot opens externally of the shank in a direction away from one another. A latch is pivotably mounted in each slot. Each latch has a finger which projects away from the pliers. Each jaw has a recess formed therein, permitting the jaw to be slidably, removably received on a stud. Each jaw further has a notch formed therein having an open end in communication with the recess in the jaw. Resilient means is positioned in each slot for constantly biasing the latch having the finger thereon outwardly of the pliers. When the jaw is slid onto a stud, the finger is received in a respective notch securing the jaw to the stud. A manually-actuatable portion of the latch permits the latch to be depressed against the biasing action of the resilient means, pivoting the finger out of the notch and releasing the jaw.

  • Patent number: 4669341
Abstract: A workpiece to which traction to be applied is firmly held by a gripping device to which is anchored one end of an impacting hammer having a rectilinear guide with a free end directed away from the workpiece. An impact member of high inertia is slidably disposed on the guide for rapid movement toward an impacting engagement with an abutment carried by the guide adjacent its free end, whereby the resulting tensional forces in the form of a sudden impulse are transmitted through the gripping device to the workpiece for use, for example, in withdrawing the workpiece from a member in which it is firmly anchored or embedded. The gripping arrangement of at least one jaw of the gripping device utilizes a single tooth which is harder than the workpiece to be extracted so that such tooth effectively bites into such workpiece to provide a firmer grip. In another embodiment, each jaw may include a tooth each biting into the workpiece in alignment with each other or in staggered alignment.

  • Patent number: 4557034
Abstract: The tool includes a pair of handles which combine to form a hand grip for manipulation of the tool. When the handles are closed, a support element is displaced from its illustrated home position within the head portion, engages a connector and displaces it forwardly against a die to crimp the connector element to the multi-conductor wire positioned in the connector and effect electrical contact between individual contact elements in the connector and the conductors in the multi-conductor wire. The tool also provides for stripping the end of the wire to fit within the connector. Guide elements with upwardly open yokes on one handle accommodate the wire, and blade elements on the other handle provide a slicing action on opposite sides of the sheath of the wire as the blades engage the sheath as the handles are closed so that the sheath may be stripped to expose the conductors for insertion into the connector.

  • Patent number: 4165746
Abstract: A pair of disposable plastic forceps includes elongated arms, each having a proximal end portion providing a handle and a distal end portion for attachment of a contacting member to each of the arms, and a hinge for movably connecting the arms to one another to provide adjustment of the forceps, the hinge joining the arms intermediate their ends. Desirably, the hinge rotatably and frictionally receives the intermediate portion of each arm to hold the arms in position relative to the hinge after they are adjusted. The distal end of each arm is formed to provide a slot for removably receiving a contacting member. Contacting members of various sizes and shapes are provided, the size and shape selected being dependent in part upon the function to be performed by the forceps. The slot in each arm is defined by a pair of opposed walls. The contacting members include side walls which engage the opposed walls of the slot.
