Abstract: A tool holding device is suitable to have an application with a power tool. The tool holding device includes a toolholder for receiving a bit. A sleeve is disposed outside the toolholder and is operable to move between a first position which allows for removal of the bit and a second position which allows the bit to be securely retained in the cavity of the toolholder. A returning member is disposed circumferentially between the toolholder and the second section of the sleeve for returning the sleeve to a neutral position between the first and second positions. Moreover, the sleeve of which does not surround the returning member abuts the toolholder.

  • Patent number: 4502549
Abstract: A helical spring couples a drive shaft geared to the motor with the work spindle. With this arrangement hard screwdriving operations can be extended in time so that time is added for the drive motor to come a stop after it is switched off. Transducers are provided for measuring the torque at which motor switch-off occurs, and also the cumulative angle of rotation, the latter for detecting defective screws. No switchdown of the drive speed is necessary before the screw is driven home.

  • Patent number: 4459882
Abstract: An input shaft and a main shaft which transmits torque from the input shaft to torque amplifying means are separately provided and a horseshoe-shaped elastic member is deformed according to the applied torque, thereby the overloaded transmission of torque to the main axis is prevented and a rough amount of transmitted torque is indicated at a surface of the wrench.

  • Patent number: 4327610
Abstract: An open end ratchet wrench has a head portion which includes a slot into which a plurality of cantilever spring segments project. The ends of the cantilever spring segments engage and turn the flat surfaces of a nut when the wrench is turned in a tightening direction. When the wrench is turned in the opposite direction, the cantilever springs flex to override the corners of the nut and then spring back to engage adjacent flat surfaces of the nut.

  • Patent number: 4314490
Abstract: A torque wrench is provided in which a removably attached alarm indicator produces an audible buzzing or visual indication when a pre-selected torque is applied by the torque wrench. In a preferred embodiment, an audible buzzer has a magnet in its base to facilitate removable attachment to a faceplate on the wrench, and also to make possible the use of the same audible buzzer on other torque wrenches. The audible buzzer may include an electrical circuit having a switch, battery, and buzzer all connected in series.

  • Patent number: 4290329
Abstract: The structure in its preferred embodiment involves a preset control device for measuring instruments such as but not limited to torque release wrenches of the preset type wherein an elongated casing and handle confines a work engaging member, an elongated load translating member extends therefrom, and adjustible measuring instrumentalities are intergeared therewith to preset the turning load of release. The measuring instrumentalities are dominated by a simple and compact control unit disposed transversely of the elongated casing and handle member to provide a calibrated dial positoned to rotate in the path of a viewing opening in the casing for manual presetting to a selected load.

  • Patent number: 4249435
Abstract: A tool for turning a screw, nut, bolt or other rotatable workpiece includes a bottom housing carrying a workpiece engageable part and, above the housing, a handle engageable by the hand of a user. The handle is axially and angularly shiftable relative to the housing and is angularly connectable to the housing through both a torque spring and through sets of angular stops on the housing and on the handle which stops are brought into and out of engagement with one another as the handle is shifted axially relative to the housing.

  • Patent number: 4244434
Abstract: An electronically indicating torque wrench utilizes a variable frequency stress transducer to detect the level of torque applied by the wrench. The stress transducer is operatively coupled to an arm of the wrench, said arm having a mechanical stress that is a function of an applied torquing force. The output of the stress transducer is compared to a reference whose calibration corresponds to desired torque settings. An indicator provides audible and visual indications when the applied torque equals the desired value.
