A switch engages the driving mechanism to switch the rotational direction of the working end between clockwise rotation and counter-clockwise rotation with an optional locked position that locks the working end. Two pairs of cooperating pawls are provided that are selectively engaged by the switch with one pawl in each of the two pairs of cooperating pawls selectively engaging one of a first ratchet gear and a second ratchet gear. Each pawl in the pair of cooperating pawls are positioned axially apart from each other in alignment with one of the first ratchet gear and the second ratchet gear.

    Abstract: A ratchet useful for wrenches is provided having a pawl and a main gear that reside in a case, wherein the pawl is biased to engage teeth of the main gear to permit rotation in a selected direction. According to an aspect of the invention, a biasing mechanism is housed within the pawl and acts outwardly from the pawl against one or more ramped surfaces formed in the case, thereby biasing the pawl rotationally. For example, the biasing mechanism may be a coil spring housed within a bore extending through the pawl, aligned parallel to an axis of rotation of the pawl. The spring is compressed between two ball bearings, urging the ball bearings axially outwardly against the ramped surfaces. The ramped surfaces are shaped so that a component of the force of the ball bearings creates a rotational moment on the pawl.

    Abstract: There is disclosed a selective one-way screwdriver and, more particularly, a selective one-way screwdriver that includes a long handle and can easily be operated. The annular gear includes a recess in an end in order to receive a bit. The head further defines a cavity near the handle and a channel between the cavity and the space. A switch is put in the cavity. In the channel are put two pawls one of which can selectively be engaged with the toothed wheel portion of the annular gear under the control of the switch. Thus, the handle can drive the annular gear in selective one of two directions. The length of the handle is perpendicular to the axis of the bit so that a user can easily use a small force in order to a large torque through the selective one-way screwdriver.
