Reversing Patents (Class 81/62)
  • Patent number: 8616095
Abstract: A hand tool includes a head in which a driving member is received and a pawl is engaged with the driving member. A handle has a substantially round driving end which is rotatably received in a pivoting recess in the head and a pushing member protrudes from the driving end and is engaged with the pawl. The handle includes two contact sides which alternatively contact two outward tapered sidewalls of a driving recess in the driving end when operating the handle. The pawl is shifted to contact the driving member by the teeth at different positions of the pawl when operating the handle to change the driving direction of the driving member. No switching member is connected to the pawl and protrudes from the top surface of the head of the hand tool.

  • Patent number: 8596168
Abstract: The invention comprises a ratchet style open end wrench which incorporates an assembly to provide a torqueing function and ratchet effect. The assembly includes a wrench body capable of providing torque delivery through two or more rotating cylindrical cams which contact the nut. The cylindrical cams then rotate when reversing the direction of the wrench assembly so that a cutout portion of the cylindrical cams allows the nut points to pass by. In one embodiment, the direction of the ratchet effect is reversible by a reversing arc wire which is activated by use of a lever.

Abstract: A ratchet screwdriver with an assembly of a handle (10), a body (17), a gear (56), a pawl (21, 22, 71), and a selector (27) movable on the assembly. The selector carries a pawl actuator (38, 81) for pivoting the pawl, and there is a rotation lock (42, 92) on the selector for releasably holding the rotated selector. The selector can be axially, and also rotationally, movable on the body for controlling the lock. The assembly is along an axis (A), and there are a member (44) and axial force appliers (62, 64) effective between the body and the member, thus restricting axial movement in the assembly. There is provision for assembly along the axis from adjacent the handle. There are modifications and an assembly method.

  • Patent number: 7987747
Abstract: A ratcheting tool such as a reversible dual-pawl ratchet wrench is disclosed that minimizes wasted motion during ratchet slip or counter-rotation. The ratchet wrench includes a bias assembly that biases the pawls apart to bias a first, selected pawl for a selected drive direction towards engagement with a ratchet gear, and that the biases the selected pawl into a concentric alignment with the ratchet gear. In this manner, non-ratcheting initial rotation of the pawl due to counter-rotation prior to the pawl camming out of engagement with the ratchet gear is eliminated, thus eliminating wasted motion and maximizing the available angular sweep for the wrench.
