Abstract: A dual-pawl ratchet wrench mechanism is disclosed having a stop mechanism for limiting over-travel of a reversing lever for selecting drive directions. In one form, the wrench mechanism includes a ball and spring assembly that cooperate with recesses to define proper positions for the reversing lever, and one or more ramps are provided between the recesses to promote tactile feel and to promote the reversing lever being rotated to a proper position. In some forms, the stop mechanism is formed on a stationary portion, such as a spacer or the wrench body, and a portion of the reversing lever. The design simplifies manufacturing, such as by simplifying assembly and minimizing the need for securements. Additionally, the reversing lever is assembled with the mechanism in a manner to improve sealing.

Abstract: An adjustable socket that includes a housing, a rotatable member engageable with the housing such that the rotation of the rotatable member causes the housing to move upwardly or downwardly along the longitudinal axis, an adjusting collar engageable with the rotatable member and the housing, a plurality of jaws, a retainer, and a lock member. Each jaw is received in a corresponding one of apertures of the housing. The lock member is operatively connected with the rotatable member and is constructed and arranged to secure the adjusting collar to the housing and the plurality of jaws. The jaws are movable towards and away from the longitudinal axis of the housing through a range of positions upon the rotation of the rotatable member.

Abstract: A device that automatically actuates the reversing lever of a ratchet mechanism when the radial direction of the motor is changed. The auto-shift mechanism includes a worm gear that rotates with the motor, and a disc coupled to the worm gear that moves laterally as the worm gear rotates. Axial movement of the disc actuates a reversing lever of a ratchet mechanism by either pulling or pushing the reversing lever. A lost-motion mechanism can absorb an initial amount of torque so that the auto-shift mechanism can run its course prior to applying the torque to a fastener.

Abstract: This invention is a new beginning for AN wrench users. No more uncomfortably thin AN or Bonney wrenches are needed. This wrench/tool system with separate, ergonomic handle is loaded with features designed for comfort. The separate handle is specifically designed with contoured finger grips, and gently radiused back edge resting against the palm of the user's hand. These are features that will provide the user all-day comfort. In addition, with the common blade of the wrench/tool ends, fitting the matching receiving groove of the handles, wrench/tool ends and handles of differing styles can be added, and upgraded to build a set of wrench/tool ends and handles to meet every need.

Abstract: A ratchet wrench includes a driving device having first and second sides spaced along a rotating axis. A compartment extends from the first side through the second side. A drive member is received in the compartment and includes an end for driving a tool. A ledge is formed on an inner periphery of an end of the compartment at the second side. A pressing rod extends into the drive member via the end of the compartment at the second side. The pressing rod is movable relative to the drive member along the rotating axis to control engagement with or detachment from the tool. A dustproof ring is mounted between the ledge and the pressing rod. The dustproof ring includes an outer side and an inner side. The outer side presses against an abutment portion of the ledge. The inner side presses against the pressing rod.

  • Patent number: 8661945
Abstract: A clamping ratcheting wrench is disclosed that is capable of being opened and closed without slipping the wrench over the end of a nut to be tightened or loosened. This wrench overcomes many problems because it may be used on a nut that is in a very tight position where a traditional wrench would not fit, nor would a conventional wrench be capable of ratcheting. The ratchet is effected by individual ratchet segments that are held in place when the wrench is opened. One of the true advantages of the various aspects is that the ratchet can be opened and closed once the ratchet segments are aligned, such that the segments are secured in place to allow the wrench to be opened up without having all the segments fall out of the wrench. A first aspect of the invention discloses an interlocking ratchet piece design, while a second aspect of the invention discloses another ratchet piece design with structural channeling to secure the ratchet segments in alignment so that the segments do not come out of the wrench.
