Patent number: 12027833Abstract: A snap adapter for a wire stripping tool has a hollow body with a tool end, a component end, and a button. The tool end is sized for insertion into the tool body and the component end is sized for receiving a component meant to strip a cable of a specified diameter. The button comprises a pin feature for attaching the received component. Inserting the component into the snap adapter forces the pin away from the snap adapter hollow body to allow for full insertion of the component into the tool body. A spring disposed between the hollow body and button pushes the pin feature upwards through the hollow body to hold the component inside the snap adapter once the component is fully inserted. Removing the component requires pushing down the button to extract the pin feature, which allows the component to be slideably removed from the tool body.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 2020Date of Patent: July 2, 2024Assignee: Hubbell Power Systems, Inc.Inventor: Will Eisele

Patent number: 9791397Abstract: The invention relates to a device for detecting contact of a tool (2a, 2b) with an electrical conductor (5b) encased by an electrical insulation (5a). In order to ensure a reliable, robust and simple display of the tool-conductor contact for potential-free and short cable lengths, the tool (2a, 2b) consisting of an electrically conductive material is fastened to a tool holder (1a; 1b) made of electrically conductive material. A thin electrical insulation is provided between tool (2a, 2b) and tool holder (1a, 1b) so that these components together with the coaxial cable form a capacitor (CS). An inductance (La; Lb) is connected parallel to this so that a high-Q LC resonant circuit is formed between tool and tool holder. The electronic circuit arrangement excites the resonant circuit and determines characteristic oscillation parameters of this resonant circuit.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2014Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: Schleuniger Holding AGInventors: Raphael Deschler, Michael Jost, Roland Kampmann, Martin Thiele

Publication number: 20100101373Abstract: A cable end preparation tool is for a coaxial cable and has a C-shaped body with an opening therein to receive the coaxial cable and a side defining a saw guide to receive a saw blade thereagainst. The C-shaped body includes a gripping rib to fit in a valley of a corrugated outer conductor when the coaxial cable is in the opening. At least one stabilizing rib is adjacent the gripping rib to receive a crest of the corrugated outer conductor thereagainst when the coaxial cable is in the opening. The C-shaped body also includes a rotation guide feature receives the inner conductor. A cutting blade extends outwardly from the C-shaped body for removing a portion of a dielectric between the inner conductor and the corrugated outer conductor as the C-shaped body is rotated about the rotation guide feature.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2008Publication date: April 29, 2010Applicant: Andrew, LLCInventor: Nahid Islam

Patent number: 7694420Abstract: A coaxial cable preparation tool is provided wherein the tool includes a body, having a first end and a second end, the first end including a first cavity configured to accommodate insertion of a coaxial cable therein. An outer conductor blade is located near the first end of the body and is movably operable with the body to cut an outer jacket, an outer conductor, and an inner dielectric of the cable when the cable is inserted into the first cavity. A center conductor chamfering member is positioned at the back of a second cavity, the second cavity extending from the second end of the body. A dielectric coring blade is positioned within the second cavity, and a jacket stripping blade is positioned at least partially within the second cavity. A corresponding method of coaxial cable preparation is provided.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2007Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Assignee: John Mezzalingua Associates, Inc.Inventors: Trevor Ehret, Shawn Chawgo

Publication number: 20100077899Abstract: Provided is a core wire contact detection device which detects contact between a strip blade and a core wire when a sheath of an electric wire is stripped by the strip blade. The core wire contact detection device includes a vibration detection unit capable of detecting a vibration in a frequency range including a vibration frequency generated due to the contact between the core wire and the strip blade, and a contact state determination processing unit which determines that the strip blade and the core wire are in contact with each other when an amplitude of the detected vibration exceeds a predetermined threshold value.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 17, 2009Publication date: April 1, 2010Applicant: ShinMaywa Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Tetsuya YANO, Takashi Ooshima, Nobutaka Ohsumi

Publication number: 20100064857Abstract: A cable end preparation tool for a coaxial cable may include a body having first and second opposing ends with a first recess in the first end, and a first blade carried by the body within the first recess for stripping an outer jacket of the cable to expose a portion of an outer conductor when the body is rotated relative to the cable. A second blade may be carried by the body within the first recess for stripping the outer conductor and a dielectric layer to expose a portion of an inner conductor when the body is rotated relative to the cable. The tool may further include a coring bit carried by the second end of the body for removing a portion of the dielectric layer between the inner conductor and the exposed portion of the outer conductor when the body is rotated relative to the coaxial cable.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 15, 2008Publication date: March 18, 2010Applicant: CommScope, Inc. of North CarolinaInventor: Ronald A. Publication number: 20100024604Abstract: The sheath and conductor strippers embodiments relate to primarily ergonomic handle assemblies with upper and lower jaw portions lateral to the jaw-arms and handle-members. The elongated handle-members can be straight (13, 14), off-set T (27), and pistol grip (15, 21, 23) in configuration. The handle assembly is hinged (72, 74) with lateral limiting motion. The handle-members are resiliently urged and have a push-button latch assembly (39). The hand tools manually engaging jaw portions cut wire, strip insulation, slit sheathing, grasp, and crimp. The jaw engaging portions arranged for specific tasks processes. The cutting blade and cutting disk (186) can be either fixed position or adjustable blade carriage (68,70, 126) depending on the configuration of the cutting blade casing (140,170,172) and blade covers (37, 53) for cutting sheathing placed in an integral passageway (31,32,88) with various tongue attachments (16), passageway adaptors (104, 106), and sheath cutting slots (140).Type: ApplicationFiled: August 1, 2008Publication date: February 4, 2010Inventor: James M. Publication number: 20100000372Abstract: A cable stripper is comprised of two components, each component including a main body portion, a coupling device at one end of the main body portion and a T-shaped handle disposed at an opposite end of the main body portion. The coupling device rotatably couples the two components together. A channel runs along an interior length of each of the main body portions, which provides a path into which the cable to be stripped is inserted. A blade housing on at least one of the components of the main body portion securely holds a utility knife blade with a predetermined amount of the tip or edge of the blade protruding into the channel. The exposed portion of the blade pierces the sheath or covering of the cable by a precise, predetermined amount.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 3, 2009Publication date: January 7, 2010Applicant: Uraseal, Inc.Inventors: Thomas C.
