The apparatus includes an advancement wheel (12) and a rotation wheel (14) mounted on opposite sides of a path (16) formed by upper guide rails (18 and 20), lower guide rails (22 and 24) and the wheels. A knife assembly (62) is adjustably mounted beneath the advancement wheel and includes a knife blade (64) which extends into the path slightly in front of the area tangent to the wheels. The wheels are connected to drive motors (26 and 28). In use, the bottle is fed into the path such that the upper guide rails engage each side of the groove (152A) of the dome scrap. As the bottle moves into the apparatus, the advancement wheel engages the groove to move the bottle into the path between the wheels. When the bottle reaches the area of the path tangent to the wheels, the rotation wheel contacts the groove.

A transmission gear jacket is axially slidable along the shaft and rotates with the shaft. A tool chuck has a tubing cutter that is manually movable into the tubing to cut the tubing at a desired location. The tool is fed into and away from the tubing by a manually operable gear engaging the transmission gear jacket to cause axial movement of the jacket along the central shaft. Such axial movement rotates a transmission gear which, in turn, is engaged with a rack on the cutting tool mount to move the cutting tool either towards or away from the tubing. A clamping device is also included to clamp the length of tubing in the desired cutting position.

    Abstract: The instant invention is a tire cutting apparatus which operates in conjunction with a conventional band saw providing a used tire treatment mechanism that is affordable to purchase and maintain. A tire support assembly having flexible bands to expand to the inner perimeter of a tire casing is used with tire rotational speed controlled by a motor which frictionally engages an outer perimeter of the tire. The tire casing is further stabilized during the cutting operation by a wheel platform which supports a conventional band saw. The tire casing is rotated during or by band saw operation cutting the tire casing in two equal halves with smooth edges. The apparatus further includes an enclosure providing a catch basin for material cut from the tire and a cover allowing the apparatus to be stored or used as a work table. Wheels allow the enclosure to be easily moved and stood upright in a corner should space be a problem.

The bridges are formed by using a primary knife having an interrupted cutting edge to produce a circumferential score in the side wall of the closure leaving spaced connectors or bridges followed by using a secondary knife having a continuous cutting edge to provide a continuous external score line and an accurately dimensional radial thickness of the bridges. In a preferred method and apparatus, the closures engage the successive primary and secondary knives and are moved such that the closures roll relative to the knives.

By this manufacturing technique, a closure having a tamper-indicating pilfer band can be scored and cut at a particular portion of the band, such as between container-engaging projections of the pilfer band.

A one-way clutch mechanism connects the handle to the pinion so that rotation of the handle in alternate directions incrementally moves the carriage assembly in one direction only along the mandrel.

    Abstract: A rotary cutter rolls on the surface of a wrapped roll and is moved toward the end of the roll while being biased toward the center of the roll. As the cutter reaches the unsupported end of the wrapper, it penetrates the wrapper, cutting the entire wrapper crimp and heads as a unit from the end of the roll. A core plug removing apparatus uses a spear that is inserted within the core plug and a tab protrudes to engage the inside surface of the core plug. As the spear is removed, the tab forcibly pulls the core plug free of the core of the roll. The entire apparatus can be shifted from a removal station to a discharge station where the heads, wrapper crimp and cut plug are removed to a platen. The platen has a slot with an abutment end. A pusher then pushes the heads and wrapper crimp off the platen while the core plug is trapped by the abutment end and is separated from the heads. The heads are then collected in a separate receptacle from the core plug.
