In a changing position of the tool disk different from the working (11) and adjusting positions (57), the clamping device (31) unlocks the holder (9) in such a way that the holder can be removed from the tool disk (5) and replaced with another holder (9) to be used.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a bar feeder, which comprises a swing member designed to be swingably moved by a rotation shaft located above a guide rail. The swing member normally rotated to a lower position where the swing member is located on a far side from the bar rack with respect to the guide rail. During the process, the swing member receives a bar from the bar rack, and loads the bar to the guide rail. When a bar is removed from the guide rail, the movement of a bar to the swing member is inhibited by an inhibition member, and the swing member without a bar is moved to the lower position to create an ejection space between the rotation shaft and the bar rack. The present invention makes it possible to readily remove the bar loaded in the guide rail therefrom.

    Abstract: An apparatus for transferring workpieces to and from the chuck of a machine tool. A gripper arm is mounted to the machine frame for selectively axial and rotational movement on a shaft having helical and longitudinal threads on the surface thereof. A first nut is rotatably mounted to the machine frame for axial advancement of the shaft and a second nut is rotatably mounted for rotational advancement. The apparatus may also include a panel mounted to the machine frame between a transfer station and the chuck. An opening in the panel adjacent the transfer station has surfaces which mate with corresponding surfaces of the gripper arm so as to preclude the passage of debris to the transfer station. The apparatus may also include an apparatus for sequentially transferring a series of workpieces. The apparatus has a two gripper jaws and a compressible pusher plate therebetween which is compressed as it is moved towards an opening in an input chute so that a workpiece may roll between the jaws of the gripper.

    Abstract: A loading and unloading mechanism including a workpiece receiving and discharging chamber and pressurized air/vacuum source operatively connected to the chamber. The chamber is tubular and adapted to be connected to the spindle of a lathe in a coaxial relationship. Pressurized air is used to force the workpiece into the lathe spindle and vacuum pressure is used to draw the workpiece out of the lathe and back into the tubular chamber. The device may be modified to facilitate vacuum unloading only in the case in which the lathe is manually loaded. A proximity switch is provided for detecting the passage of a finished workpiece out of the lathe and back into the chamber whereupon the chamber is opened and the workpiece is discharged.

    Abstract: An apparatus is provided for automatic, intermittent feed of workpieces into a lathe. The apparatus includes a collet having a side entry for receiving workpieces and a workpiece positioning aperture, in alignment with the lathe spindle, for finally positioning the workpieces for machining. The collet further includes dowel pins that initially position the workpiece and a plunger that reciprocates intermittently to advance and press the individual workpieces into the positioning aperture. The apparatus includes a delivery chute for intermittently dropping the individual workpieces into the collet assembly side access for initial positioning. A control system positions the collet assembly to receive the workpiece, releases the workpiece from the delivery chute, actuates the plunger to press the workpiece into final position for machining, actuates machining, and, at its completion, actuates the plunger to withdraw the workpiece whereupon it drops from the machine by gravity.

    Abstract: A machine for simultaneously turning and boring a ring-shaped workpiece has a frame of four parallel structural shafts secured between end stands. An active spindle assembly is mounted on a carriage slidably mounted on the shafts. The carriage is hydraulically drivable axially toward a stop cylinder of a passive spindle assembly rotatably mounted but axially immovable on one stand, to clamp the workpiece ring between a clamp cylinder of the active spindle assembly and the stop cylinder. The clamp cylinder is rotatable by the main machine drive motor for turning the workpiece. The workpiece ring is introduced laterally to the working area by a loader shuttle. Then the workpiece is centered in the work space by an axially drivable centering crescent as the workpiece is clamped in position between the clamp cylinder and stop cylinder for the turning to commence. Cylindrical slides and slideways are provided at right angles for both radial and axial movement of the external turning tool mounting bar.

The table also supports a magazine for blank workpieces, and the table is movable between a first position in which the head and the tool are in machining promitiy and a second position in which the head and the magazine are proximate. The head has a work holder adapted to grip a blank workpiece at said second position for transfer, by movement of the table, to said first position. After machining, the workpiece is correspondingly returnable to the magazine. The work holder is mounted on a spindle supported on the head and rotatable for machining purposes. In a modification the spindle supports a tool, and the head has a gripper which is separate from the spindle and is used for the transfer of workpieces between the magazine and a work holder mounted on the table.
