Common Gear Means Patents (Class 82/67)
  • Patent number: 5813299
Abstract: A rotary tubing cutter enables automatic tube cutting without requiring manual rotation of the cutter. The apparatus includes a motor driven gear assembly including a blade gear and a feed gear. The feed gear includes a plurality of cam slots that receive pins attached to the cutting blades of the blade gear. Rotation of the feed gear relative to the blade gear effects feeding of the cutting blades. The apparatus is particularly useful for fuel rod tubing of nuclear fuel assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5605083
Abstract: A pipe cutting apparatus comprises a housing with a pipe passage through the housing, a rotatable collar and a rotatable ring both of which rotate about the pipe passage and a pipe cutter mounted on the collar. The pipe cutter is movable inwardly toward and outwardly away from the pipe passage and has a drive gear which engages the ring such that differences in rotating speeds between the collar and the ring operate the drive gear to produce movement of the pipe cutter.

  • Patent number: 5342160
Abstract: An opener according to the invention comprises a vertical displacement mechanism for moving a capsule to a position in which the capsule is to be opened. The opener also includes a holding mechanism for holding the capsule, a cutting mechanism for cutting the capsule, and a casing. The cutting mechanism includes three roller cutters rotatably supported by a cutter holder by means of a pin. Each of the roller cutters is disposed so as to be rotated around the capsule and to be movable radially of the capsule for the purpose of cutting the capsule. The capsule, vertical displacement mechanism, holding mechanism and cutting mechanism are all contained in the casing and are actuated by a manipulator within the lead cell.
