Axially Movable Tool Support Patents (Class 82/93)
  • Patent number: 5383380
Abstract: A machine for cutting slices from a cylindrical workpiece such as a log of pressure sensitive tape. The machine has a machine frame and a mandrel on the frame for holding and rotating the cylindrical workpiece. A disc shaped cutting blade is mounted on a carriage and is movable to cut the workpiece into material slices. The carriage is movable to shift the cutting blade to locations along the mandrel at which the workpiece is cut into slices. A drive mechanism is connected to the carriage assembly for moving the carriage assembly along the mandrel. That drive mechanism has a drive handle which can be manually gripped to disengage a drive rack and pinion and so enable movement of the carriage assembly in either direction along the mandrel. A one-way clutch mechanism connects the handle to the pinion so that rotation of the handle in alternate directions incrementally moves the carriage assembly in one direction only along the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 5086677
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for truncating tubes, comprising at least one knife, which cooperates at the end of the cut with a counter-knife positioned within the tube to be truncated and which is connected mechanically to a core of strong magnetic permeability. In one embodiment, a winding is wound in a framework around the tube to be truncated, to create a magnetic field in the core through the tube to be truncated so as to be able to act magnetically on the longitudinal position of the core and thus on that of the counter-knife. At least one pair of tubular sleeves are fitted at each of the ends of the framework and are formed of a material of strong magnetic permeability, to direct and form the lines of induction. In another embodiment, the winding is arranged around a core which is fixed with respect to said winding and whose axis is positioned parallel and at a distance from the longitudinal axis of the tube to be truncated.

  • Patent number: 4934227
Abstract: A device for cutting a support helix for a radially expanded sleeve of resilient material which may be used as an enclosure of an elongate object such as an electrical cable. The device includes a knife wheel having a plurality of circumferentially distributed, radially projecting knives for making elongate spaced cuts through the wall of a plastic tube. The plastic tube and the knife wheel are rotated and moved axially relative to each other to cause the knife wheel to make a helical pattern of elongate spaced cuts through the wall of the plastic tube along the entire length of the plastic tube. One end portion of the helix is separated from the helix into a strip extending from one end of the helix through the support helix and out of the other end thereof where it may be manually grasped. The connection areas between the spaced cuts are dimensioned so that the support helix can be manually unwound by pulling on the end portion extending through the support helix.

  • Patent number: 4748881
Abstract: A machine for cutting slices from a cylinder of material. The machine has a machine frame with a holding assembly thereon for holding a cylinder of material for cutting and rotating the material cylinder about a central longitudinal axis. A disc shaped rotatable cutting blade is carried by the carriage assembly and drive means rotates the cutting blade. A carriage assembly is mounted on the frame for movement to present the rotating cutting blade to the rotating material cylinder for cutting the cylinder transversely into material slices. A brake mechanism is actuable to positively brake gripping chuck rotation upon cessation of the gripping chuck drive means operation. Moreover, a separate brake mechanism is operable to positively brake cutting blade rotation upon cessation of the cutting blade drive means operation. This braking prevents free running of the gripping chuck, material cylinder and cutting blade.

  • Patent number: 4227431
Abstract: An elongated cylindrical mandrel holds a dummy electrical connector receptacle at one end, and slidably carries a concentric tubular carrier which is biased towards the dummy receptacle. A plurality of circumferentially spaced spindles are hinge mounted at their one end to the carrier for pivoting angularly with respect to the carrier axis and carry cutter wheels on their outboard ends. A slide closer concentrically surrounds the carrier, is axially displaceable, and bears cam surfaces contacting the spindles to cause the spindles to pivot inwardly towards the dummy receptacle. When the mandrel is projected, the receptacle receives in attachment the electrical connector plug bearing the tubular bayonet coupling ring to be severed. A stop limits the pivoting of the spindles and cutter wheels to permit the ring to be severed circumferentially without damage to the plug or its wiring.
