Abstract: A packaging sizer can receive and segment packaging into two or more segments. The packaging sizer can receive the packaging on a conveyance surface and convey the packaging to a position for segmenting. A segmenting assembly can segment the packaging to form two or more segments. The resulting segments can be directed in different directions for different purposes. For example, one or more of the segments can be removed from the packaging sizer and one or more segments can be moved to a position for manipulation by a packaging manipulator.

Abstract: Systems for providing efficient manufacturing of paper, sheet, and/or box products of varying size and structure, often with pre-applied print (“pre-print”), are provided herein. One or more controllers can be used to aggregate upcoming orders and information needed to complete the manufacturing process for the order. A controller enables a user to prepare control plans (e.g., reel maps, reel plans, etc.) for processing rolls of web product through the manufacturing process. Criteria filtering and/or various features enable generation of efficient and effective control plans for rolls of web product, including, in some cases, multiple orders. The control plan may include a set of instructions for operating one or more systems within the manufacturing process to form the desired finished paper-based product.

Abstract: Methods of processing a glass ribbon are provided. The method includes the step of traversing the glass ribbon through a travel path at a predetermined velocity and severing the glass ribbon to create an upstream web and a downstream web. The method further includes the step of increasing a relative velocity of a downstream edge portion with respect to an upstream edge portion to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In other example methods, a segment of the glass ribbon is removed to create a gap between an upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge. In still further example methods, an upstream severed edge is directed along a second travel path to create a gap between the upstream severed edge and a downstream severed edge.

Abstract: A tablet splitting apparatus capable of reducing fluctuations in weight of split tablet pieces even with simple advanceable-retractable blades is provided. A holding mechanism holds a tablet to be split at a cutting position. In reducing the gap between a pair of opposed blades, which are advanced and retracted with respect to the cutting position, to cut the tablet, the holding mechanism continuously holds the tablet until the tablet is caught between the pair of opposed blades of a cutting mechanism. After the tablet is caught between the pair of opposed blades, the holding mechanism release the tablet and only the pair of opposed blades hold the tablet. • Patent number: 4934228
Abstract: A system for detecting offsize defects and for segregating the veneer sheets containing the defects from the non-defective sheets. Scanners are positioned along the in-feed conveyor leading to the clipper. As offsize defects are identified, a computer determines which of the sheets to be cut will contain the defects. These sheets are segregated as by diverting them to a pull chain conveyor following the cutting of the sheets from the continuous sheeting. Dye is sprayed on the area of the defects as detected by the scanners to aid in further handling of the defective sheets when removed from the pull chain.

  • Patent number: 4930383
Abstract: To deflect a moving paper web to respective transport paths (16, 17, 21, 25) by a cutter cylinder - counter cylinder combination (7, 8), the cylinders are oscillated back and forth above the respective transport paths by being retained in journal bearings which are eccentric with respect to the axes of rotation of the cylinders, so that, as the cylinders rotate, the nip between the cylinders will be in alignment with the respective transport path, the shift directing the leading edge of the web to a respective transport path. The cylinders, each, carry a knife and a counter element diametrically located with respect to each other, so that, as the leading edge of the web is gripped between a respective transport path, the web is severed thereafter and as the cylinder moves into alignment with the other transport path to feed the leading edge of the web to the other transport path for subsequent cutting, and so on.

  • Patent number: 4895057
Abstract: The known turn broaching of crankshaft main bearings is not suitable for broaching crankshaft bearing pins for the connecting rods because that would require locating the rotational axis of the crankshaft in the connecting rod bearing pins, whereby the crankshaft would rotate eccentrically. The resulting unbalances prevent driving the crankshaft with the r.p.m. required for the turn broaching operation. To avoid this problem a broaching lathe for the rotational or turn broaching of crankshaft connecting rod bearing pins is equipped with a steady rest including a rotating support device which permits mounting the crankshaft in the lathe in such a way that the rotational axis coincides with the axis of the connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 4784318
Abstract: Rectangular drawings of standard dimensions or formats can be automatically cut out of a continuous paper or plastic web (1) by a transverse cutter (9) and a plurality of longitudinal cutters (26), as directed by coding (20) on the edge of the web. The cut-off strips (23) of scrap made by transverse cutter (9) are directed away by a movable deflector (13). Additional deflectors (62) are provided downstream, in web motion direction D, of the longitudinal cutters (26) and serve to separate the scraps (23, 25) produced by the longitudinal cutters from the drawing forms (A0-A4) which have been trimmed on all four sides. Thus, manual separation of the drawings from the surrounding scrap is obviated.

  • Patent number: 4765214
Abstract: Veneer handling apparatus having a veneer clipper at one end thereof and a veneer sheet stacker at the other end is disclosed. Veneer sheets cut into a format size by the clipper are sorted so as to allow defective sheets to be discharged from the apparatus. Sound veneer sheets sorted from the defective sheets are distributed selectively into two ways alternately. Two conveyors arranged one above the other and converging at a position adjacent their downstream ends are provided in the apparatus, and one sheet is distributed to the upper conveyor and stopped at a predetermined position thereon until its succeeding sheet distributed to the lower conveyor is moved to another predetermined position. The sheet on the upper conveyor is allowed to move again at such controlled time that it is combined at the converging position with the succeeding sheet moving on the lower conveyor into a pair with one sheet placed over the other.

  • Patent number: 4538800
Abstract: To provide for deflection of copy between two respective paths (8, 16; 9, 17) without using switchable deflection tongues, two cylinders (3, 4) have segmental elements (24, 27) located thereon which are respectively, selectively, positionable on or within the circumference of the cylinders, or projecting therefrom, for example by securing the segmental elements in projected position, or by controllable eccenters (28-35). Copy is fed by a belt transport system between the cylinders and, if the copy meets a projecting segment, the projecting segment will deflect the copy into one of the paths, in accordance with the position of guide tongue structure (36). Alternate feed in the respective path can be obtained by offsetting the projecting segments (25, 27) from each other, for example by 90.degree. (FIG. 3) and feeding copy with equal copy length and copy spaces therebetween to the cylinders, so that the copy will be directed, alternately, to one, or the other of the exit paths.
