Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for dividing logs of substrate into rolls and a method of using this apparatus. The apparatus may include a distribution sprocket, a pocket for holding the log, a cutting device, and a device for collecting the rolls. Logs may be transported, divided, and distributed without the need for secondary clamping devices.

Abstract: A web cutter includes a knife roll located above an anvil roll, a web infeed conveyor for moving a continuous web to be severed to the nip between the rolls and a segment discharge conveyor for removing segments cut from the web. The roll includes a plurality of fixed cutting knives and the anvil roll includes a plurality of fixed anvils such that rotation of the rolls brings each knife into engagement with an anvil to sever the web. Lift plates on the anvil roll are located immediately upstream from each anvil to raise the severed lead end of the web above the anvil in order to assure proper feeding to the discharge conveyor.
Abstract: An apparatus for slicing meat into strips comprises a conveyor for transporting the meat beneath an array of spaced rotary cutting blades, which float upon their driveshaft, their spacing being maintained only by a stack of pressure wheels mounted on a freewheeling shaft parallel to the driveshaft. A free-floating wedge is confined between the conveyor surface, the cutter blades, and the pressure wheels, for separating the meat from the conveyor.
Abstract: There is provided a device for cutting large blocks of sod into either strips or small blocks suitable for planting. The device includes first and second spaced cutting mechanisms to sever the large sod blocks along lines parallel and transverse to the path of sod movement through the device. With both of the cutting mechanisms operative, small sod blocks are discharged from the machine. In order to discharge sod strips, means are provided to disable one of the cutting mechanisms.
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for use in combination with a slitter. The apparatus comprises a body member having teeth and grooves, permitting it to mesh with grooved slitting cutters, means for mounting the body member onto a slitter housing and means for aligning the body member so that a slit product can be readily extracted from the slitting cutters. The apparatus also prevents damage to the slitter in the event the slit product inadvertently breaks during slitting.
