  • Patent number: 5555785
Abstract: A paper slitting device having first and second pivotally mounted platens with an integral biasing spring between them. The spring is formed by a resilient member extending from the first platen toward the second platen. The resilient member has a free end that is received in slots provided in the second platen and forms a bearing for the first platen and bending about an axis when a force is applied to one of the platens sufficient to move the one platen towards the other platen. The resilient member then returning the one platen to an at rest position when the force is removed.

  • Patent number: 5492041
Abstract: A slitting equipment, piercing various patterns of ventilation slits in thin material, comprising a frame, a main cylinder, auxiliary cylinders, and a plate with knives. Upon an electric impulse from a bag-making machine, to which the present slitting equipment is attached, the auxiliary pneumatic cylinders press and stretch the thin material when the main pneumatic cylinder activates a plate, to which is attached a multitude of cutting knives, up and down the vertical plane. The sharp knives pierce and cut the stretched, thin film in the designed pattern. When the knives have disengaged from the material, the auxiliary cylinders release the film, and the latter is free to move horizontally, while restricted vertically by the top and bottom supports of the machine. As a result of this procedure, ventilation openings have been created simultaneously with the sealing and shaping processes carried on by the bag-making machine, without producing any waste material.

  • Patent number: 5460067
Abstract: A device for performing the continuous cutting of materials of any form and nature, provided they are stratified and not flexionally rigid. The device generally comprises: fixed and mobile support surfaces; a mobile cutting shear cooperating with a fixed cutting shear; a fixed blocking unit on the fixed support surface side of the cutting shears; a mobile blocking unit on the mobile support surface side of the cutting shears; an eccentric for driving mobile portions of the device, including the mobile cutting shear, the eccentric being synchronized with the fixed and mobile blocking units; and a link block and slide guide. Non-rigid, stratified materials thereby may be more easily cut in that the invention substantially reduces or eliminates the dragging effect of the material that typically occurs during the cutting process.

  • Patent number: 5359914
Abstract: A novel two part punch stripper (10) for use with punches (12) carried by a punch press (16). The novel two part urethane punch stripper of this invention includes generally cylindrical concentric tubular upper and lower parts (50 and 52). The lower part (52) is formed of a urethane of a conventional hardness for a punch stripper, the hardness being in the range of 80A to 100A (Shore). The tubular upper part (50) is formed of a urethane substantially harder than the lower part of the stripper, for example, in the range of 75D (Shore). The combined length of the upper and lower parts is greater than the length of the portion of the punch which extends below the punch retainer assembly (14) so that a proper preload can be achieved. The upper part and lower parts are bonded to each other by a suitable adhesive. Alternatively, they may be bonded to each other by sequentially casting in a common mold.

  • Patent number: 5056391
Abstract: A stripper apparatus retains a workpiece in position relative to a punch press apparatus during the punching operation without marking or damaging a contacted surface of the workpiece. The stripper device is an axially elongate, resiliently compressible sleeve with a through axial bore which freely passes over the punch permitting the punch to travel therethrough. The stripper device removably attaches to a coupler or coupling portion which is also used to attach the punch to a punch stem of the punch press apparatus. Removable attachment is achieved utilizing keyways formed in the coupling portion and matingly engagable keys integrally formed on a corresponding surface of the stripper device. Additionally, peripheral flanges are integrally formed on the stripper which mate with the outside surface of the coupling portion to provide greater retention of the stripper device on the coupler.

  • Patent number: 4700759
Abstract: A blade type wood splitter is described including a blade guarding housing that is movable along with the blade to engage a wood block prior to contact of the block by the cutting edge of the blade. The housing rests against the wood block as the blade is driven through and later is retracted with the blade following the splitting operation. The housing includes a peripheral wood engaging edge that substantially circumscribes the cutting edge of the blade and is normally spaced therefrom toward the platform on which the wood blocks are received. This edge may first engage the wood block as the blade is moved toward splitting contact with the block. The edge may therefore provide ample warning to an operator who has inadvertently placed fingers in the path of the blade by contacting the fingers before the blade descends to cause injury.
