Abstract: A cutting device and a printer having a cutting device eliminate paper jams and other transportation problems that can occur as a result of the cutting device cutting the paper, and can cut and reliably discharge the paper in a stable condition. The cutting device has a fixed knife 21, a transportation path 13 through which label paper 11 is conveyed, and a movable knife 22 that moves bidirectionally to the fixed knife 21 and cuts the label paper 11 on the upstream side of the fixed knife 21 on the transportation path 13. • Patent number: 7856911
Abstract: A module for automatic scrap wire isolating and removal is used in systems such as wire insulation lines for extricating scrap wires while minimally interfering with the mechanized wire insulation process. One such module includes a knife assembly with a knife, a scrap tray with a tilt plate for catching the scrap wire below the knife assembly, an accumulator with curved hooks oriented for catching and accumulating, one at a time, the wire and the scrap wire and rotatable for letting go, one at a time, of the wire and scrap wire, so as to allow the knife to completely separate the scrap wire from the wire. A lifting linkage in this module is operatively engaged with the tilt plate tilting it at an angle sufficient for the isolated scrap wire to slide off, whereby the scrap wire is removed.

Abstract: The invention describes a method and an apparatus removing a plurality of die-cut products from an operating area of a die-cutting apparatus having multiple dies. The die-cut products are simultaneously picked up at a pick-up point in the operating area. Then they are simultaneously moved to a delivery point outside the operating area. • Patent number: 6557446
Abstract: Diagnostic strips of the kind which are exposed to biological fluids such as blood or urine to detect or monitor medical conditions are cut sequentially from elongated cards by a reciprocating shear blade. The cards may be ones which exhibit defective areas that should not be included in the finished strips. Blade motion seats each newly cut strip on a movable strip carrier which abuts the blade during the cutting operation. The carrier then travels a nondefective strip to a pickup location where it is precisely positioned and picked off of the carrier for emplacement in a housing. A strip with a defective area is carried further to a discharge location where it is released into a waste receptacle. This enables more economical manufacture of diagnostic strips by efficiently making use of nondefective areas of cards that have defective areas.

Abstract: A saw carriage or module for manually, semiautomatically or automatically cutting stems typically supplied by a stem handling apparatus, which stem handling apparatus delivers full-sized, substantially tree-length stems to one or more of the saw carriages for cutting into logs, poles or other segments. During automatic operation of the module(s) stems are typically scanned by an optical device and the physical characteristics of the scanned stem are sent to a computer, which selects the cutting pattern and transfers this information to a programmable logic controller. The programmable logic controller typically orchestrates positioning of one or more linearly-adjustable saw carriages or modules and on-board carriage saw blades to optimize cutting of the stems into the segments. After the modules and saws are so positioned, each stem is sequentially transferred by the handling apparatus to the saw modules, where it is positioned, clamped and cut into multiple segments at the preselected optimum points.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a device for recycling a tube such as a core having housing which has an upper side, a lower side, and a first side. Attached to the upper side is an input chute. The input chute receives the core. The bottom end of the core is fed into a traveling horizontal blade as well as a splitter blade. The travelling horizontal blade makes a horizontal cut proximate to the lower end of the core whereas the splitter blade makes a cut proximate to the lower or distal end of the core in a vertical direction. The same piston that pushes the splitter blade and traveling blade into the core then pushes the core into a stationary blade which makes another horizontal cut and separates a piece from the core which then drops into a storage area. The same piston which pushes the splitter blade and traveling blade can then push the pieces in the storage area toward a discharge chute.

Abstract: A cutoff system for exterior siding which includes a flying punch and shear. The system includes a main carriage which is adapted to reciprocate and, in one direction of travel, move at the same speed as the siding to be cut. A pair of punches are then actuated to form the hanger and butt notches at the lateral edges of the siding. Upon withdrawal of the punches, the travel of the main cylinder is slowed such that the siding travels away from the punching area. Upon sensing the notched areas, the main carriage is again moved to travel at the same speed as the siding. The speed is timed such that the center of the notches is located below a shear. This shear is then actuated to form a single parting line across the siding. The carriage is then retracted to await the next cycle of the system. As such, with each cycle of the system, the notches are formed in the trailing and leading edges of adjacent panel segments, and the leading panel segment cut from the continuous siding.

Abstract: The leading end of a continuous tubular supply is fed past a rotating flywheel into a guide. When the leading end reaches the back of the guide, a blade mounted on the flywheel severs the supply to form a straw or stirring stick. The straw is immediately ejected from the guide and is swept into the entrant portion of a feeder by a rotary brush. The feeder is provided with a stem-propelling run that is formed from a pair of top V-belts and a wide underbelt and between which the straw is propelled to a collecting hopper. Successive straws are pushed into the hopper under the impetus of the conveyor belts.

  • Patent number: 4493252
Abstract: A postage meter system having a rotary printing drum for printing fixed data is disclosed. Disposed entirely within the drum is an internal print head for printing variable data. The rotary drum contains an opening therein through which the internally located print head prints variable data on a mailpiece. The print head reciprocates between a printing position and a non-printing position. The reciprocation of the print head between these positions is synchronized with and controlled automatically by the position of the rotary drum during its cycle of rotation. The print head operates to print on a mailpiece only when the opening in the drum is between the print head and the mailpiece. The print head may be an impact matrix print head which together with an associated inked ribbon is placed adjacent the mailpiece in a printing position only during the printing portion of the drum's cycle.
