  • Patent number: 10179419
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for operating a food slicing device in which a food cutting blade is controlled by a sensor, and a device for cutting food. The sensor is used to control the cutting operation of the device. When the sensor senses that the cutting blade is worn, a signal is sent to the apparatus motor to increase cutting force. When the senor detects the consistency and content of the material to be cut, a suitable cutting blade, rotation speed and force can be selected. The sensor can also determine the cutting quality of a cutting blade across its circumference by determining the localized bluntness of the blade edge.

Abstract: A blade sharpening system for log saw machines is provided. An example multiphase grinding wheel has a grinding face with one or more abrasive concentric rings for sharpening the cutting blade of the log saw machine, and one or more padded concentric rings consisting of fiber padding. Sharpening with the multiphase grinding wheel improves cut quality, increases blade life, removes glues and varnishes from the cutting blade, reduces blade deformation, and hones the edge of the cutting blade. A pneumatic tensioning system uses air bladders to apply a dynamically cushioned pressure between the grinding wheels and the cutting blade. The fiber-padded grinding wheels and the air bladder tensioner provide improved sharpness of the cutting blade and longer life for the mechanical components. The padded grinding wheels decrease fire risk, and the tensioner can be operated remotely, decreasing human injuries common with conventional setup actions near the sharp cutting blade.

Abstract: A method and system for assessing when to change or sharpen a cutting blade of a paper cutter is presented. The cutting blade is operated using an electric motor that causes motion of the cutting blade, and the motion of the cutting blade causes the paper to be cut. Data is recorded about usage of the electric motor at least while cutting the paper. Based upon the data, a determination is made as to whether the cutting blade should be changed or sharpened.

  • Patent number: 7231849
Abstract: A computer controlled all-in-one reel mower sharpener and roller alignment system can be rolled under a mower to be conditioned. No removal of the cutting unit is needed. A linear voltage displacement transducer (LVDT 715 or a mechanical dial indicator 7155; alternatively a friction wheel 7150 with a rotary encoder 7151 may be used, or any combination of sensors 715, 7155, 7151) or equivalent instructs the machinist how to align the front and rear rollers in parallel. A laser scanner or probe determines the location for the cutter, and then the machining head sharpens each blade automatically. A separate cutter sharpens the bed knife. Most all mowers can be conditioned based on the laser or probe calibration of the blade size. The laser or probe measures the height of cut by sensing the blade location.
