  • Patent number: 11076953
Abstract: Systems, dies, and methods are provided for processing pericardial tissue. The method includes positioning a die-cut assembly over the pericardial tissue, the die-cut assembly including a die having a plate, a die pattern, and an opening, the die pattern attached to the plate, the opening formed in the plate to provide access to the pericardial tissue, and measuring a thickness of the tissue through the opening. The die-cut assembly may be mounted for automated vertical movement, and a platen on which the tissue is placed is capable of automated horizontal movement. Different target areas on the tissue can be assessed by measuring the thickness through the die, and when an area is deemed suitable the die pattern cuts a shape therefrom. The system is useful for cutting uniform thickness heart valve leaflets, and can be automated to speed up the process.

Abstract: Unattached elastic portions of an elasticised web are grasped and raised above a support surface for feeding the elasticised web. The raised portions are brought into contact with a knife blade that is positioned to protrude through the thickness of the raised elastic layer into free space so as to remain spaced from the support surface that is moving beneath the blade in a direction normal to the support surface. The raised elastic layer is held raised during trimming with the knife blade by an elevation element over which the elastic layer runs. A grasping device holds the unattached portion being cut in a taut state in the cross machine direction. The elastic layer thus spans across the elevation element and the grasping device. The knife blade extends through the thickness of the elastic layer along the spanned part of the elastic layer into free space.

Abstract: The method serves for producing network-like metal mats from metallic strip material, for which purpose the strip material is first provided with notches (2), running parallel to one another, for the forming of metal wires (1), by means of notching rollers. The notches (2) are thereby formed to such depths, depending on the material, that as far as possible no sliding fractures are formed. The notches (2) are interrupted by unnotched regions—the mutual spacing of which in the respective notch (2) determines the later possible mesh width—at least in such a way that they later form network nodes (4). The network nodes (4) are offset by approximately half a network node spacing in the respectively adjacent notches (2).

Abstract: A film is made of an elastic material. The film is stretched in at least one direction in parallel to a surface of the film. Then, through-holes are punched in the film be means of needles, in a state the film is stretched. After the punching is completed, the stretching is terminated, so that the film recovers its original shape.

  • Patent number: 6688205
Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting assembly for use in thin and ultrathin web winding stations. It also relates to a method for cutting a web using this cutting assembly. According to the invention, the web (1) is cut by a blade (30) with a cutting edge transverse to the web transfer direction; the blade moves between a rearward position and a forward position; in the forward position, the cutting edge is substantially parallel to an axis of the roll (7) receiving the web, and the blade is substantially tangent to a surface of the roll. For cutting the web, the blade is moved from its rearward position to its forward position, so that its speed at the time it engages with said web is at least substantially equal to the speed of the web. This ensures a clean and clear cut of the web. At the same time, it ensures that the leading edge of the web is smoothly and evenly placed on the roll, without any creasing nor folding of the web.

  • Patent number: 6619360
Abstract: The present invention is a floor vinyl repair technique and tool. According to the present invention, the prior art repair technique is practiced, except a special domed-disc spacer is placed between the patch and the damaged piece to be removed before the cut through both layers with the knife. This way, the replacement patch is elevated slightly above the damaged piece. This slight elevation allows for a slight increase in the perimeter of the patch, and offsets the slight stretching of the patch during the cut, thereby resulting in a more exact fit between the patch and the surrounding, original undamaged vinyl when the patch is installed.

Abstract: A device is described for cutting soft, flexible sheet-like workpieces (1) which has a work support (2), a cutter head (3) which can be positioned against the work support (2) and has at least one cutter (4), and a device for holding down the workpiece (1) to operate in conjunction with the cutter head (3), whereby provision is made for said device to be located laterally adjacent to the cutter (4) and whereby said device can be adjusted in relation to said cutter perpendicular to the work support (2). In order to achieve advantageous construction conditions it is proposed that the hold-down device consists of at least one pressure roller (5) which forms a conical roller surface (18) and which has a trunnion (6) extending transversely in relation to the direction of cut and inclined at an angle to the work support (2).

  • Patent number: 6430804
Abstract: A balloon locking cup and securing system includes a cup having a latch interposed between a funnel shaped cup portion and a tube extension. The balloon cup is placed over a reciprocating needle hook rod in a securing system. The tail of the balloon is received by a hook at the end of the hook rod and a first pneumatic cylinder is actuated to pull the needle hook rod in such a manner as to pull the balloon into nesting engagement with the balloon cup. At the end of travel of the first pneumatic cylinder, a second pneumatic cylinder is automatically actuated, causing a knife blade to separate the end of the balloon tail just beneath the tubular member of the balloon cup assembly. The drawing of the balloon into the cup assembly actuates the latch which engages the balloon tail near the neck of the balloon and secures the balloon in the cup assembly.

Abstract: An arrangement for repeatedly feeding fiber bundles with random fiber direction from a magazine roll of fiber thread, for example in the production of flock preforms for products made of thermosetting resin. The arrangement comprises feed devices for feeding the fiber threads from the magazine roll and cutting device for cutting the fibers into the desired lengths. The feed devices include at least a first and a second pair of driven feed rollers placed in sequence, which feed rollers form nips for the fiber threads. A pneumatically driven fiber-ejecting device is placed downstream of the cutting devices. The fiber ejection device includes an oblong tube sleeve with air flow channels for directing turbulent air flow.

Abstract: Apparatus for cutting an indefinite length suture to uniform lengths for subsequent threading and swaging to surgical needles includes a drawing tower having first and second guide members defining a drawing axis parallel thereto. First and second grippers are provided to grip the indefinite length suture and to alternately draw it along the drawing axis, with each gripper being mounted for reciprocal movement along a guide member.
