A dimensional strain generated in an electrical-to-mechanical conversion element such as a piezoelectric element or a magnetostriction element is transmitted after enlargement by an enlarging member disposed to surround the element through a movable output terminal and an operation transmission lever to the punching member to cause high speed operation thereof in a predetermined stroke range. High quality punched holes free from curved edges or the like difficiency thus can be formed even in a continuous feed state without holding the sheet-like members stationary for a while.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1991Date of Patent: August 31, 1993Assignee: Max Co., Ltd.Inventors: Morio Yamaguchi, Takashi Uchida

Patent number: 5211091Abstract: An apparatus for cutting pleated paper, and especially for filtration media for the automotive industry. Two tooth roller chains in parallel are supported above a support plate upon which pleated paper is placed. There is an opening in the plate through which the teeth of two sprockets supported beneath the plate may extend to mesh with the teeth of the corresponding roller chain. The teeth on both the chain and the sprocket are the same height as the pleated paper and when driven by an electric motor pulls the paper through the device separating each pleat. One pleat at a time is pushed through a slit in the table top at which point the pleat knuckle is sheared off by pneumatic operated cutter blade. A fiberoptics infrared scanner is used to monitor the amount of pleated material available. The number of pleats cut on any one run is controlled.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1992Date of Patent: May 18, 1993Assignee: Purolator Products CompanyInventor: Everett A. Cole

Patent number: 5156077Abstract: A sawing apparatus has a frame, a saw blade rotatable on the frame about a horizontal axis and displaceable transversely of the axis, and a conveyor for displacing an elongated workpiece longitudinally in a transport direction generally parallel to the saw-blade axis past the saw blade. The conveyor has upstream and downstream drive rollers flanking the blade mounted on the frame on one side of the workpiece and respective upstream and downstream holding rollers mounted on the frame transversely juxtaposed with the drive rollers and engaging the opposite longitudinal side of the workpiece. Upstream and downstream abutment blocks on the frame engageable with the one side of the workpiece immediately flank the blade and upstream and downstream pusher blocks on the frame engage the opposite longitudinal side of the workpiece transversely opposite the respective abutment blocks.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1991Date of Patent: October 20, 1992Assignee: Rolf PeddinghausInventor: Bernd Stursberg

Patent number: 5042343Abstract: A device for automatic separation of wire binding portions of random length and shape. From a delivery spool a wire strand is fed into a feed mechanism behind which is arranged a cutting mechanism. A sensor measures the length of the wire binding portion and consequently initiates the cutting process via a processor. A further sensor establishes the discharge of the separated wire binding portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1988Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Inventor: Hratch Boyadjian

Patent number: 5041070Abstract: A bag machine includes a programmed logic controller intermittently actuating a web feed draw roll motor for controlled web feed during the inoperative period of a cycled seal bar. The controller has separate inputs for the seal bar periods and a web length and establishes a control program of a preferred motion profile, with acceleration and deceleration of the fixed rolls to match the bag length to the available time using the total time available, with acceleration to a maximum and deceleration to reference, with or without a constant speed period. The bag length and time is monitored each machine cycle to calculate the next motion profile and permit changes in the bag length without machine shut-down. A programmed registered mode of control responds to a web mark spacing relative to the seal bar. In the registered mode, a photoscanner detects the mark during a constant speed web feed period prior to the end of the available time and actuates the web feed accordingly.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1990Date of Patent: August 20, 1991Assignee: Amplas, Inc.Inventor: Giles R. Patent number: 5033341Abstract: An alignment and cutting system for use with textile materials, such as terry cloth toweling fabric, to process either a single width of fabric or to simultaneously process in a side-by-side manner, a plurality of fabrics having the same or different widths. The system will also align each of that plurality of fabric regardless of whether the fabrics have the same or different lengths of nap-less bands or lanes separating the terry pile areas and can cut the same or different lengths of fabric from each of the plurality of fabrics being processed.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1989Date of Patent: July 23, 1991Assignee: Texpa Arbter Maschinenbau GmbHInventors: Karl Mussig, Martin Schnaus

Patent number: 5009740Abstract: A machine including a control system having a timer for producing bags made from thermoplastic resin films of varying thickness. A pair of feed rollers intermittently feeds a continuous flat tubular web of thermoplastic resin between an upper heat sealing bar and a lower sealing surface. The sealing bar, which approaches but does not contact the web, is heated to effect a weld bead on the web, a cutting edge severs the web adjacent the bead, and the feed rollers advance the web as the sealing bar and cutting edge are withdrawn. A sequencer provides timed control of a motor that operates the rollers and another motor that operates the sealing bar and cutting edge.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1989Date of Patent: April 23, 1991Assignee: Nippon Flute Co., Ltd.Inventor: Takeo Yanai

Patent number: 4833953Abstract: Method and apparatus for automatically providing notching indicia on the edge of a garment subassembly to provide a dimensional reference to be utilized in subsequent fabrication of the goods. A conveyor transports the garment subassembly to a notching station at which the pre-assembled parts are secured in accurate registration to the path of a notching device that is movable on a carriage toward and away from the notching station. The notching device includes a vertically extending notching blade having a recessed cutting edge which, when positioned at the notching station, overlies an edge of the garment part subassembly. On displacing the blade downward, the notch indicia is cut into the garment piece after which the notching unit is withdrawn to a home position while the notched part is transported by the conveyor to a subsequent fabrication step. In a preferred embodiment two notching devices supported in a common path on opposite sides of the notching station are utilized.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1986Date of Patent: May 30, 1989Assignee: Levi Strauss & Co.Inventor: Ted M.
