With Means To Clamp Work During Dwell Patents (Class 83/282)
  • Patent number: 3986419
Abstract: A material cutting machine includes a pair of cylindrical rollers through which a web of sheet material is passed, one roller being driven while the other is allowed to track with the sheet material so that it accurately measures the length of the material passing through the rollers. Means are included for stopping the drive roller after a prescribed length of material has been measured by the measuring roller. After such stopping, a cut-off apparatus is made to reciprocate across the web to cut off a predetermined length of material.

  • Patent number: 3978703
Abstract: Apparatus for automatically cutting sections of measured length from a coil of an elongated strip which has a rotatable mounting device for the coil, a feed and straightener driven at a constant speed for pulling the strip from the coil, a hump table, a speed control unit with a pair of pinch rolls, a shears, and a device for generating a first signal when the leading edge of the trip has been transported past the shears by a distance equal to the length of the measured section for breaking the pinch rolls to stop movement of the strip at the shears and for actuating the shears, said device also generating a second signal when the leading edge of the strip has been transported past the shears by a shorter distance than the measured length of the section for actuating a pneumatic cylinder to drive the pinch rolls toward each other and grip the strip, the lower pinch roll being driven by a constant speed motor at a cicumferential speed less than the speed of the strip from the feeder, thus producing a hump betw

  • Patent number: 3958479
Abstract: A machine tool which is operable on a workpiece, particularly a stamping or nibbling machine, comprises a movable electrically conductive work tool which is connected in a circuit along with a workpiece. The circuit includes a relay having a switch which is closable to energize a control device such as a drive motor for the feed of the workpiece. The relay is controlled by a contact which is effected when the tool contacts the workpiece to energize the relay and, for example, to open the contact in the control circuit, to stop the control operation. The relay advantageously includes a spring to return this contact switch to a closed position.

  • Patent number: 3957386
Abstract: A machine for perforating corrugated tubing at accurately spaced locations includes a double chain conveyor which positively engages the tubing and is driven intermittently to advance the tubing in steps of equal length. Upon completion of each step a pair of clamping members are actuated to engage the tubing, the clamping faces of the members being shaped so as to locate the tubing positively while it is stationary. When the tubing is so located, accurately positioned sets of cutters are brought into operation so as to cut slots or holes in the tubing at the desired locations. Upon completion of the cutting stroke, the clamping members are automatically released and the conveyor advances the tubing by another step. The sequence of operations in each cycle is controlled by limit switches responsive to the positions of the conveyor, the clamping means and the cutters. The cutters may be rotary saws or rotary drills.

  • Patent number: 3949633
Abstract: Apparatus for slitting large metal sheets of substantial length and width is provided. The apparatus includes a slitting machine of the throatless type guided on a track to provide precise slitting of the sheet. The apparatus includes a long hold-down clamp mounted adjacent the slitter and the track. A supporting table is located on the side of the hold-down clamp opposite the slitter and the track and is provided with measuring heads which enable the sheet which is to be slit to first be cut to a precise, given length. Two measuring heads are provided, one of which causes the sheet to slow down and the second which actuates a shear. A lower supporting table is located on the side of the slitter opposite the clamp and both tables are provided with gauge heads for accurately positioning the sheet prior to being clamped and slit. Preferably, a double slit is made along the desired line to substantially avoid distortion of the metal sheet along the slit.
