Abstract: In a state that a reference plane of a cutter holder, to which a cutter blade is attached, is brought into contact with a surface of a base of a supporting adhesive tape, the cutter blade cuts the supporting adhesive tape while the reference plane of the cutter holder follows the surface of the base. Herein, a cutting edge of the cutter blade passes by a joining interface between the supporting adhesive tape and a ring frame without penetrating through an adhesive layer of the supporting adhesive tape.
Abstract: A calibration procedure is carried out for determining the displacement distance from a reference point to the center of the blade in a web cutter in a mail inserter. A photosensor is placed near the paper plane of the web cutter to sense a web edge at the reference point downstream or upstream from the blade. At the start of the calibration procedure, the blade is caused to cut the web for providing a web edge. The web edge is moved in a backward and forward motion over the photosensor a few times for determining the theoretical center position of the photosensor relative to the position where the web is cut by the blade. By taking into account the chip-out width, the displacement distance from the center of the photosensor to the center of the chip out blade can be determined.

Abstract: The present invention relates running webs which have been printed in a high-speed printer. A method and a device are provided for longitudinal cuffing of a running, unseparated web in two web portions, wherein the unseparated web (2) is printed in a high-speed printer (1) and wherein the unseparated web (2) is cut longitudinally in two web portions (2a, 2b). The unseparated web (2) is brought to run between a first and a second edge support (8, 9) such that longitudinal outer edges (2d, 2e), extending in the running direction (T), of the unseparated web (2) can cooperate with the edge supports (8, 9). If the width (B) of the unseparated web (2) varies and/or changes, this is read and the second edge support (9) and the cuffing means (7) are continuously controlled to move in a lateral direction (S) relative to the running direction (T) such that the unseparated web (2) is cut in two web portions (2a, 2b) with widths (B2a, B2b) which are adapted to each other.
Abstract: An arbitrarily positioned lateral perforation forming apparatus can form a lateral perforation at an arbitrary position or selected position in a continuous web paper at high precision by a simple control system with small control amount. A lateral roulette cylinder projecting a lateral roulette edge on its outer periphery, arranged on one side of the continuous web paper and rotating in a traveling direction of the continuous web paper; and a receptacle cylinder projecting an edge projecting portion opposing to the lateral roulette edge of the lateral roulette cylinder on its outer periphery, arranged on the other side of the continuous web paper, rotating in the traveling direction of the continuous web paper, and forming a lateral perforation in the continuous web paper when the edge receptacle portion opposes the roulette edge; are rotated in synchronism with traveling of the continuous web paper in the drive system.
Abstract: A ribbon is cut into signatures with a cutting cylinder having a fixed diameter and rotating at a variable angular velocity. During the cutting operation, the cutting cylinder rotates at an angular cutting velocity that is substantially equal to the constant velocity of the ribbon. The angular velocity of the cutting cylinder is varied between the cutting operations in order to cut signatures of a desired length. A cutting cylinder system is also provided.
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a foodstuff strand into a succession of pieces has a conveyor for continuously displacing the strand in a direction through a cutting station, a vertical guide rail in the station, a blade in the station lying in a vertical plane, and a holder carrying the blade and vertically displaceable along the rail. An actuator braced between the guide rail and the holder is operable to vertically reciprocate the blade. Upper and lower wheels rotatable about respective upper and lower axes generally parallel to the plane and perpendicular to the direction have offset from the respective axes respective upper and lower pivots attached to the mount. A drive/controller connected to the actuator and to the wheels vertically reciprocates the mount and rotates the wheels for cutting through the strand with the blade while moving the blade synchronously in the direction with the strand.
Abstract: The invention relates to a rotating cutting device for producing letter envelope cuts from a printed endless, moving material web. The position of the cut is pre-set by register marks printed on the web. In this process, the cutting device is fully automatically synchronized with the register marks. This is accomplished via a computer-supported controller which, via sensors, first determines the spacing between two adjacent marks, then adjusts the cutting device to the determined length of the section, and finally continually monitors the phase position between the knife and the register mark and changes the phase position by slightly accelerating or slowing down the material web until the cut and the register mark coincide.
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a movable sheet of web material onto predetermined lengths including a pair of upper and lower cutoff rolls and a retractable cutoff blade. A slide mechanism is utilized to move in a direction transverse to the movement of the sheet of web material to selectively engage and disengage the cutoff blade.
Abstract: A fluid jet cutting system for simultaneously making multiple cuts in a continuously moving layered web of paper or nonwoven material. The fluid jet cutting system includes a controller which monitors the web speed through an encoder feedback signal, and controls the travel speed and angle based on parameters stored in the controller memory and feedback signals. The user can select a cut length and other cutting parameters through an input device to the controller. Nozzles are mounted to a drive system including an adjustment device which allows fast easy and accurate adjustment of cut length.
Abstract: A composer clipper apparatus that includes a composer for producing a composed ribbon of veneer from veneer pieces disposed edge-to-edge. Abstract: Rapid cut-off apparatus for high speed moving yarn whereupon any excessive force exerted upon the yarn causes the apparatus to be triggered into a yarn cut-off operation with the apparatus being accelerated to the speed of the moving yarn upon frictional engagement of the cut-off blade of the apparatus with the yarn.
Abstract: Precut pieces of wood of like configuration are stacked in a hopper from the lower end of which they are advanced one-by-one by a reciprocable pusher onto a horizontally disposed work station. As soon as a workpiece is positioned on the station it is automatically clamped into place, after which two rotary saws, which are mounted adjacent opposite ends of the station, are reciprocated from retracted to advanced positions, during which movement they cut away portions of the workpiece at opposite ends thereof. As soon as the saws have advanced passed the workpiece, they are retracted slightly away from opposite ends of the workpiece, so that they will not reengage the workpiece when they return to their starting positions. When the saws are retracted the now-cut workpiece is automatically released and then ejected from the work station, after which a cycling relay automatically causes another workpiece to be shifted onto the work station so that the above-noted steps are repeated.
Abstract: A disc-shaped control plate is mounted within the central opening of a ring-shaped cutting blade of a power driven, hand manipulated, meat-trimming knife to control the thickness of portions of meat severed from a larger body of meat. The control plate is mounted on the end of a shaft which is removably mounted on the front end of a handpiece above a blade housing on which the cutting blade is rotatably mounted. A manually operated lever is mounted on the handpiece for raising and lowering the control plate between a depth control position and non-control position. A coil spring biases the control plate toward the lowered control position and a plurality of retention balls are biased by a second spring and retainer cage into a retention groove to maintain the disc in its lowered position until manually raised therefrom by operation of the lever.
