Abstract: A format selecting device makes it possible to control distribution of material band formats in a one-to-two ratio, wherein the position of the format selecting device enables a cutting blade to come out from a drum at each revolution thereof, for a small format and at each two revolutions per large format. The selecting device acts and initiates a ratio of sprocket assemblies at which sprockets are meshing therebetween for a small format distribution, and certain sprockets are punctually disengaged on the drum revolution for distributing large formats and cancellation of the blade exit outside of the drum. The selecting device is positioned from a flange of a housing and comprises an operating lever provided with two fixed stops which are remote and arranged on the flange defining an angular space corresponding to the lever pivoting in the top or lower part according to a selected format.

  • Patent number: 6826991
Abstract: An automatic web transfer mechanism in a flexible sheet material dispenser includes a web-sensing member operatively coupled with a transfer arm. The member senses the absence of web from a stub roll at a pre-feed portion between the stub roll and a feed roll nip to activate a transfer of feed to the web of a reserve roll. The transfer is initiated by a transfer arm that advances the reserve web into the proximity of the feed roller nip. In a second aspect, a movable front shield opens automatically upon opening of the outer dispenser cover, presenting an opening for pre-transfer placement and retention of a leading edge of web material from the reserve roll. Upon closure of the dispenser cover, the front shield returns to a closed position placing the transfer arm in a pre-transfer set position.

  • Patent number: 6581500
Abstract: A dispenser for sheet material such as paper towels. The paper towels are provided in a continuous roll. The roll is mounted within an enclosure above a drum. The drum contains a cutting assembly that moves between a retracted position and a cutting position. The cutting assembly cuts the sheet material when in the cutting position. The sheet material frictionally engages the drum such that pulling the sheet material out of the enclosure causes the drum to turn. The turning of the drum causes the cutting assembly to move between the retracted and cutting positions once every revolution of the drum. More specifically, a guide projection is formed on the cutting assembly, and a track assembly is formed on the enclosure. The guide projection engages the track assembly to cause the cutting assembly to move between the retracted and cutting positions.

While initial movement of the web through the mechanism and actuation of the cutter to effect partial separation of the web material is produced by the user's pull on the web, such pull also loads the spring which, upon unloading, delivers the cut web material from the dispenser. • Patent number: 5257567
Abstract: A sheet cutting apparatus is provided for cutting sheets from one or more media supply rolls. A rotary cutter bar cooperates with a stationary bar to sever the media as it is fed between the two bars. The rotary cutter bar is driven by a motor whose output is monitored by a speed control circuit. During a cut cycle, the motor speed may decrease with an increasing load caused, for example, by a thicker weight media being cut. Uncorrected, the motor speed would decrease, causing a deviation in the straightness of the cut. The speed control circuit senses the changes from the normal speed of the motor during the cutting cycle and generates a feedback signal to the motor to raise the speed to the operation level.

Abstract: A feed mechanism for feeding a web of rolled flexible sheet material, such as soft paper towels, out of a dispenser. The mechanism includes a feed roller within the dispenser and a web cutting blade in the feed roller and projectable and retractable therewith as the feed roller rotates. A contoured cam is attached to an end of the feed roller, and a spring-loaded cam follower presses against the contoured cam. The cam follower, through the cam, controllably assists in the rotation of the feed roller during the feed roller cycle when the blade cuts the web and thereafter to feed a free end of the material to an accessible position outside of the dispenser. The needed maximum pull forces by the user on the material to cut and withdraw the material from the dispenser are thereby significantly minimized, and the likelihood of the soft towel material tearing off in the user's wet hands is accordingly reduced.

  • Patent number: 4058037
Abstract: A full rotation type, sheet web shearing machine comprising a rotary blade with a shearing edge, a stationary blade with a shearing edge, a motor for driving and braking the rotary blade, a cam for detecting a rotation angle of the rotary blade and gears for reducing the revolution speed of the motor. The full rotation type, sheet web shearing machine may cut sheet web to a given length. Owing to one full rotation of the rotary blade, it can cut the sheet web running continuously at a high speed without jam. The rotary blade is rotated, through gears driven by the motor and also is braked by making a braking circuit between electrical terminals of the motor so that the rotary blade is stopped at a predetermined angle.

  • Patent number: 3946628
Abstract: A rotary veneer clipper has a pair of cutting blades spaced 180.degree. apart on a rotary clipper shaft for cutting cooperation with a roller anvil below and parallel to the clipper shaft and over which sheet material passes. The clipper shaft rotates intermittently on signal to cause one of its blades to clip the sheet. The clipper shaft is driven by a pair of pneumatic drive cylinders mounted one to each of two crank arms connected to a common drive shaft. The cylinders stroke once simultaneously to rotate the drive shaft alternately in opposite directions through 90.degree. upon each successive clip signal. When the drive shaft rotates in one direction, a first gear train transmits power from the drive shaft through a first one-way clutch to the clipper shaft to rotate one of the blades downwardly and through 180.degree. to clip the sheet.

  • Patent number: RE28911
Abstract: A mechanism for perforating a web of flexible sheet material which is adapted to be used in a flexible sheet material dispenser, said mechanism comprising; a rotatably mounted roller, a rotatably mounted knife positioned adjacent the roller and having a radially outward portion defining a cutting edge for perforating the web as the web passes between the roller and the knife, the roller being operatively connected to the knife for synchronous rotation therewith and having a slot therein for receiving the radially outward knife portion as the knife rotates past the roller, and means associated with the knife for orienting the cutting edge substantially in the direction in which the radially outward knife portion moves with respect to the web during the entrance of the portion into the slot so that when the portion enters the slot the cutting edge will effectively perforate the web.
