The projecting profile (41a) has sectors with axial extensions different in dependence on their angular positions. The contrast servomechanism (128) is settable for selecting an angular phase of the blade contrast (39a), such to positioning, for the contrast with the blade, a sector of the projecting profile (41a) having axial extension equal to the requested length of the perforation (P). The blade contrast can be constituted by a hollow cylinder (113) rotatable around a support shaft (114) as a radial air bearing of pneumostatic type.

The axes of the anvil roll and the fly knife roll lie in the same plane and are spaced so that the locus of a cutting point on the fly knife blade intersects the locus of a corresponding cutting point on the anvil blade at two points, the first intersection point occurring as the cutting point on the fly knife blade is approaching the center of the anvil roll and the second intersection point occurring as the cutting point on the fly knife blade is traveling away from the center of the anvil roll.

    Abstract: A cutter is provided for cutting rope into fibers of the same or varying lengths. A plurality of blades are provided having cutting edges arcuately arranged and facing either inwardly or outwardly. Rope is fed against the cutting edges and through the spaces between them. In a preferred embodiment, the blades are equally spaced from each other so that the resulting cut products comprises a multiplicity of cut fibers which all have approximately the same length. Also disclosed is a novel reel structure comprising a pair of superposed blade support rings with a coaxial hub member extending therebetween and providing support therefor.     Abstract: A machine for automatically producing a bib apron and for affixing a narrow strip thereto to form both the neck loop and tie elements for the apron. The machine includes a cutting mechanism having a skewed roller carrying a cutting blade which makes point contact with a second roller to divide a continuous web of nonwoven fibrous material into separate rectangular sheets. The material for the strip is folded longitudinally and is then advanced across each sheet by a feed mechanism including a capstan drive and a clamping mechanism for holding the strip in juxtaposition with the sheet. Thereafter, the strip is contacted by a pull member which draws the center of the strip in a downstream direction to form a "V". The forward corners of the sheet are then folded over the legs of the V and are adhesively secured to the body of the sheet to hold the strip in place.
