Patent number: 4687153Abstract: An improvement in paper converting rewinders in which bulk rolls of paper are converted into consumer product rolls of paper such as tear-separable multi-sheet rolls of toilet tissue or paper towels. In such rewinders of the type which include a perforator cylinder, and a bedroll/chop-off roll combination, changes in sheet length and/or sheet count commonly require changing one or more of such rotating, paper contacting machine elements. Patent number: 4228735Abstract: In an offset duplicating machine, an implement for marking, such as perforating, slitting, scoring or the like, each printed sheet conveyed through the machine; for transverse marking, a first marking strip is affixed lengthwise on an impression cylinder and a rotatable counter-roller is mounted adjacent and at a skew inclination to the impression cylinder; the counter-roller has an outer surface of hyperboloidal shape which allows the strip to progressively mark the passing sheet. By grooving the counter-roller or by varying the distance separating it from the impression cylinder, additional marking strips may be affixed to the impression cylinder to provide various marking configurations on the printed sheet.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1978Date of Patent: October 21, 1980Inventor: Laurent Doucet

Patent number: 4200017Abstract: Method and apparatus for sectioning traveling elongate material. The apparatus has a pair of cutting cylinders mounted for rotation with their axes substantially parallel. Cutting edges are formed at the peripheries of adjacent tapered end faces of the cutting cylinders, the cutting edge of one cylinder being in close proximity to that of the other. The cutting cylinders are rotated in synchronism so that the cutting edges execute a cutting stroke in unison, the length of the cutting stroke being in excess of the width of the elongate material to be cut. A mechanism is provided which limits feeding of elongate material to material having a width less than the length of the cutting stroke. The method provides for the feeding of elongate material through a pair of rotating cutting cylinders which define a cutting path longer than the width of the elongate material.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1978Date of Patent: April 29, 1980Assignee: Firm Josef FrohlingInventor: Hubert Fein

Patent number: 4159661Abstract: A rotary cutter in which a bed knife is displacably mounted with relation to the rotary knife so that the bed knife, when actuated, travels a path between an operative position adjacent the rotary knife and an inoperative position remote from the rotary knife. An extendable linkage connected to the bed knife defines the operative position of the bed knife at the point of maximum linkage extension. Adjusting means connected with the linkage enable precise determination of maximum linkage extension which thereby insures precise setting of the bed knife and prevents bed knife travel beyond the operative position.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 1977Date of Patent: July 3, 1979Assignee: Egan Machinery CompanyInventors: Alfred G. Patent number: 4141265Abstract: A device for cutting a roll of foil into lengths in a packet cigarette packer, comprises one or more couples of continuous feed wheels for the foil roll along and between fixed guides and a couple of cutting blades placed opposite each other below the feed wheels of which one at least possesses continuous rotatory movement round an axis parallel to the same feed wheels. A pad of absorbent material in cylindrical form supported freely turning round its own axis is set parallel to the axis of rotation of the turning blade in position such that during its rotatory movement the turning blade comes into contact with the cylindrical pad of absorbent material pre-soaked in vaseline oil, a lubricant.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1977Date of Patent: February 27, 1979Assignee: G. Patent number: 4119003Abstract: Apparatus is provided for transversely cutting up a web of material to form blanks of equal length, particularly tickets. The apparatus comprises a cutting head and infeed means for feeding the web to the cutting head. The cutting head has a frame supporting a cutting cylinder and a counter-blade. The cutting cylinder is provided with at least one blade on its periphery. The frame is arranged to pivot about a vertical axis that is disposed laterally of the web. This enables the angle of the cutting head relative to the web to be adjusted in dependence upon the rate of feed of the web. Means are provided for driving the cutting cylinder and the infeed means in such a manner that their speeds are in a fixed ratio.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1977Date of Patent: October 10, 1978Assignee: Machines ChambonInventor: Louis Gaston Corse

Patent number: 4114491Abstract: A paper web cutting device of a full rotation type comprises, in combination: a rotary cutter including a shank with rotary shafts at both ends, a cutting blade affixed to the shank, with its edge inclined circumferentially relative to the common axis of the shafts, a guide ring located at the cutting starting end of the blade and having a radius of rotation equal to that of the edge, and a second guide member located at the cutting terminating end of the blade and having a volute configuration, with its radius of rotation gradually decreased from the initial value equal to the radius of rotation of the edge; and a stationary cutter having a straight edge and supported in place by pivot pins at both ends, in such a manner that, at the cutting terminating end, the edge is graded to interfere slightly with the radius of rotation of the rotary cutter edge, the edge being forced by a spring to bear against the rotary cutter.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1978Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Hitachi Metals, Ltd.Inventors: Yoshitoshi Hashimoto, Takajiro Kondo, Toshitaka Asamoto

Patent number: 4108706Abstract: A labelling machine comprises feed rollers which are driven stepwise to draw lengths of tape from a tape reel and to feed same to a transfer roller. Each length of tape is severed by co-operating cutter means on the transfer roller and on a pivotal arm adjacent the transfer roller. The severed length, which forms the label, is fed stepwise by the transfer roller to a label-applying station. During the stepwise movement the label is held on the transfer roller, for example by vacuum.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 1977Date of Patent: August 22, 1978Assignee: Prontophot Holding AGInventors: Jacobus Brands, Kurt Thaddey

Patent number: 4092891Abstract: Apparatus for cutting rolled steel sections with a web and one or more flanges angled in respect to the web as profiled cutters movable relative to each other on a common axis and kept parallel to each other at the time of cut. The cutter edges for cutting the web of the section extend in an inclined manner at an acute angle with respect to a plane at right-angles to the axis of travel of the cutters. These cutter edges which extend to follow the shape of the flanges at least as far as these extensions are located inside the projection of the section on the normal plane.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1977Date of Patent: June 6, 1978Assignee: Sack GmbHInventors: Manfred W.
