At least the first drive roll and the first set of stripper fingers have adhesive-release material portions (e.g. plasma coatings) which engage the adhesive face of labels from the supply. An automatic cutter mounted on the opposite side of the stripper and guiding fingers from the support includes pivotally movable and stationary blades, and a silicone-impregnated felt wiper.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1995Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey J. Patent number: 6142049Abstract: A linerless label dispenser includes a cutting mechanism. Linerless labels are transported from a roll underneath a plastic guide and onto an adhesive-release material guide structure/ramp past a sensor to a print head which prints indicia on the release material coated face of the labels. From the print head and cooperating print roller the labels pass to a plasma coated stripper surface which is disposed at an upwardly directed angle between about 20-35.degree. with respect to the horizontal, and into contact with a plasma coated stationary anvil blade. The anvil blade is spaced downwardly from the stripper surface a distance of about 0.001-0.008 inches (preferably about 0.002-0.004 inches) and cooperates with a plasma coated or texture painted rotary blade of a rotary cutter. Downstream of the blades may be a plasma coated exit roller typically cooperating with a hold down mechanism for dispensing individual cut labels.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1997Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventors: James M. Patent number: 6131496Abstract: A sheet processing machine utilizes chain conveyors, each of which are provided with a plurality of chain gripper devices, to convey sheets. As each sheet is conveyed, it is cut by a transverse cutting device and is inspected. Each cut and inspected sheet may then be separated into several partial sheets which are then conveyed independently of each other to selectable stacks in a sheet delivery system.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 1997Date of Patent: October 17, 2000Assignee: Koenig & Bauer-Albert AktiengesellschaftInventor: Johannes Georg Schaede

Patent number: 6129810Abstract: A dispensing mechanism dispenses labels having a pressure sensitive adhesive face and an adhesive release material coated face. A guide serves to guide the labels in web form along plasma-coated surfaces to a printer and then to a cutter mechanism for forming discrete labels and dispensing the labels. An open-cell foam sponge is provided for wiping the rotary cutter using silicone oil wicked into the wiper. A plate projects from the exit opening of the dispenser at an angle to the guide path to maintain the cut label on the dispenser plate. Additionally, a hub assembly is provided wherein the hub has a contact area in excess of 50% of the available contact area along the inside of the core mounting the label supply.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1995Date of Patent: October 10, 2000Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventors: James M. Patent number: 6035749Abstract: A method and apparatus by which selected pile across the face of a web of pile fabric such as carpet may be raised or lowered in accordance with a pattern as the fabric passes through shearing apparatus so that certain pile of the pile may be sheared more than other pile to provide a sculptured affect. Nozzles extend across the width of the fabric and apply jets of air from controllable valves to impinge on the pile in its path to compress or raise selected pile in accordance with a pattern controller which controls the valves. Locating the nozzles so that jets of air impinge on the pile upstream from the shearing apparatus in a direction downstream toward the shearing apparatus will raise the pile while locating the nozzles so that the jets of air impinge upon the pile prior to the shearing location in an upstream direction will compress the pile. The pile which is raised is cut further than pile which is not raised and cut even further than the pile that is compressed.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1997Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Inventor: Jack G. Patent number: 6012371Abstract: A cutting device including: a support member; a first blade having a linear-shaped cutting edge extending in a lengthwise direction from a first lengthwise end, to a central portion, and to a second lengthwise end of the first blade, the first blade being supported by the support member; and a second blade having a linear-shaped cutting edge extending from a first lengthwise end to a central portion, and to a second lengthwise end of the second blade, the second blade being supported in confrontation with the first blade by the support member, the first blade and the second blade cutting therebetween a sheet-shaped medium by serially contacting each other from the first lengthwise ends to the second lengthwise ends while the second blade presses against the first blade in a thickness direction of the first blade; wherein at least one of the first and second blades has a smaller deformation resistance, with respect to the support member, in its blade thickness direction at its first and second lengthwise endsType: GrantFiled: April 4, 1997Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: Brother Kyogo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Hideo Nishigaki

Patent number: 6003580Abstract: An automated placement of flat valves on a balloon strip. Included is a vacuum platen which receives the free end of a row of valve films. A cutting blade severs a single valve from the film, which is held in place by the vacuum platen. The vacuum platen is then moved through a series of motions for positioning above a heating element which is raised to bond the valve to the balloon strip.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1995Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Stabon International, Inc.Inventor: Michael John Frazier

Patent number: 5996457Abstract: A device for destroying used tickets includes a housing and a cutter which is removably mounted to the housing. The cutter includes an enclosure having a slot which allows tickets to enter. The cutter also has a rotating blade which cuts the tickets as they pass through the slot. Both the slot and the blade are inclined relative to the horizontal, the inclinations of the slot and the blade being mutually opposite. Thus, the ticket is subjected to an effective angle of shear which is equal to the sum of the angles of inclination of the blade and the slot. The blade is in geared engagement with the same motor that operates a plurality of rollers for advancing the tickets through the device. The cutter enclosure is detachably mounted to the housing, so that it can be quickly and easily removed for servicing. The cutter effectively destroys the incoming tickets, preventing them from ever being re-used.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1997Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Assignee: Deltronic Labs Inc.Inventor: John Wingeron, Jr.
