Abstract: A miter saw including: a base section; a saw blade; a cutting section; a support section; and a guiding mechanism. The support section includes a pivot support portion and a slide support portion. The pivot support portion supports the cutting section such that the cutting section is pivotally moved toward and away from the base section. The slide support portion slidably supports the pivot support portion to move the cutting section in a sliding direction that is in parallel with an upper surface of the base section and orthogonal to an axial direction of a rotational axis of the saw blade. The guiding mechanism is configured to guide a movement of the cutting section in the sliding direction in accordance with a pivotal movement of the cutting section toward the base section. The guiding mechanism is provided in association with the cutting section and the slide support portion.

  • Patent number: 4466317
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for controlling the movement of a workpiece to be processed in a punch press is disclosed in which after the workpiece is processed by contact of a ram on the upper tool of the press and the ram is momentarily out of contact with the upper tool, the recontact of the ram and upper tool is detected and then the processed workpiece is moved out of the processing position. In addition, the apparatus detects when the ram has returned to the proximity of the top dead center of the eccentric shaft which drives the ram and when the processing of the workpiece has been completed. The apparatus is also provided with a monitoring system which detects a malfunction in the control apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4463636
Abstract: The trimming apparatus and fixture for holding a PC board prior to and during trimming of an upper surface of the PC board utilizes a trimming blade rotated by a variable speed motor. This apparatus includes X and Y motion mechanism moved by hand grips that are spaced apart and cooperate with push button switches providing a safety control circuit. The X and Y motion mechanism employs linear ball bushings mounted and movable on hardened steel shafts. Removable holding fixtures are employed to hold and retain the PC boards during trimming. One holding fixture is used for PC boards that are not warped and not likely to warp. This fixture holds the PC board on three sides and a quick acting cam clamp is actuated to retain and release a PC board. Another fixture is adapted to hold and retain a PC board that is warped or likely to warp. Vacuum is used with a plurality of standoffs to establish the desired holding plane of this PC board.

  • Patent number: 4428263
Abstract: A high volume food load slicing machine comprising a pair of loaf feed belt conveyors that continuously advance a food loaf along a downwardly inclined path through a collar into a slicing station at which a rotating and orbiting knife slices the load includes a variable speed knife rotation drive independent of the main drive that orbits the knife and drives the loaf conveyors. A hydrostatic speed variator in the drive connection for the conveyors, with speed corrections made by a stepper motor, affords precision control of slice thickness. A split collar and associated sensor afford continuous sensing of the loaf cross section to provide effective slice thickness correction; the collar is of molded machinable resin so that the knife can cut a working surface on the collar to a precise contour. The collar includes vacuum means to hold the butt end of a loaf for slicing.

  • Patent number: 4397206
Abstract: A food slicer having a rotatable circular knife and a hopper releasably mounted on a carriage which is movable from an initial position towards and across the knife to cut food on the hopper into slices. A gauge plate is provided to adjust the thickness of cut as the hopper moves the food past the knife and a safety device is incorporated to prevent the hopper being removed from the carriage unless it is at its initial position. The safety device comprises a latch on the carriage holding the hopper thereon and a release mechanism engagable with the latch as the hopper is moved to its initial position to release it from the carriage.

  • Patent number: 4297928
Abstract: The invention relates to a sawing machine of the type comprising a horizontal workpiece support table (1) presenting a straight longitudinal slot (2) defining a cutting line, a sawing tool (4) mounted on a carriage (6) reciprocably movable along a path parallel to and beneath the cutting line, and a longitudinal pressure bar (3) arranged above the workpiece support table (1) which pressure bar (3) extends along the whole length of the cutting line and can be raised and lowered with respect to the said workpiece support table (1) so as to be capable of blocking thereon the workpiece (P) to be sawed. In the sawing machine there is provided a first safety device, consisting of a protective apron extending along both sides of the cutting line, the protective apron being formed by a plurality of slats (10) hingedly mounted, swinging movement through a predetermined angle of oscillation, on longitudinal apron rods (7).

  • Patent number: 4292868
Abstract: High-speed spooling machines for yarn or thread are subject to the difficulty that, if the yarn or thread should break between a yarn cleaning, that is, size sensing and cutting apparatus and the takeup spool, stray remnant filamentary pieces may occur due to operation of the cutter apparatus since the thread size sensing apparatus may provide an erroneous "cut" signal upon absence of any thread in the sensing field. To prevent such operation, a thread sensing element is interposed in the path of the thread being spooled which, upon break of thread, will provide a "no tension" signal which will be below a predetermined threshold level. This signal is then used to inhibit operation of the cutter, regardless of the output of the thread size sensing element.

  • Patent number: 4261399
Abstract: Disclosed is apparatus for cutting piling, trees and the like, provided with means permitting the apparatus to be placed about a pile or the like by moving it generally normal to the longitudinal axis of the pile. Specifically, the apparatus comprises longitudinal frame members carrying at one end a driven blade and at the other end a stationary blade or anvil. The stationary blade is mounted on an end cross member, one end of which is pivotally secured to one of the longitudinal frame members and the other end of which is adapted for locking to the other of the members. By pivoting the end member carrying the stationary blade upwardly or out of the general plane of the frame, the device may be opened up so that it may be slipped about a piling or tree, without having to be lowered thereabout as has heretofore been required.

The safety device also includes a limit switch associated with a door that defines part of the safety deflector. First and second contactless switches are located adjacent a work supporting surface and respectively sense the position of opposite surfaces of the workpiece to insure that the workpiece is within limits of the work supporting surface and the safety deflector. The switches are in a circuit leading to a machine clutch for the tool carriage to prevent operation when the door is open or either surface of the workpiece is outside prescribed limits of the deflector and the support surface.

  • Patent number: 4085637
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting scrap strip received from a press or the like has a cutting member driven in reciprocating movement by an air cylinder operatively connected thereto, the cutting member cooperating with a die member to cut scrap strip as desired. A solenoid controlled valve is connected to the air cylinder and is operable to control air flow into and out of the cylinder whereby movement of the cutting member is effected. Control means is connected in circuit relation with the valve and a rotating shaft of the press providing scrap strip and is responsive to rotation of the shaft to control the position of the valve. The interval between successive actuations of the cutting member may be preset to correspond to a desired time interval or a specific number of cycles of the shaft. A manual control connected in circuit relation with the valve is operable to actuate the cutting member independently of periodic movement of the press.
