    Abstract: A method and apparatus for sterilizing and destroying a syringe needle includes a rotating needle carriage that receives a needle in a loading position. The needle carriage includes a port sized to accept a pen-type hypodermic syringe and an insert to downsize the port for accepting a conventional hypodermic syringe. The needle carriage is rotated downwardly to a cut-off position. At the cut-off position, two opposing contact blades pinch the needle, which electrically connects the positive and negative terminals of a battery. Current flows through the contact blades to shear the needle. The sheared portion of the needle then falls into a waste compartment in the bottom of the apparatus. When the syringe is removed from the needle carriage, the needle carriage rotates upwardly and returns to the loading position.

The bolt passes through an elongated slot in the bracket and can be secured at any desired positon along the slot. A portion of the stop plate is turned perpendicularly to that plate to form a stop portion which contacts the safety guard and prevents further rotation of the safety guard from the fence.

    Abstract: A slicing apparatus particularly suitable for slicing livers. A plurality of adjacently spaced apart blades are mounted within a drum rotatable about the blades. Pockets are provided in the peripheral wall of the drum, the pockets being formed with gaps which align with the blades. As the drum and the pockets rotate through the cutting zone, the blades pass through the pockets and slice livers therein. The cutting zone is positioned in a lower quadrant of the drum and, with respect to the drum's rotational direction, immediately before lower dead-center thereof. Thus as a pocket enters the cutting zone it is being inverted and on exiting the cutting zone a pocket has been completely inverted. On exiting the cutting zone the sliced contents are deposited into a tray provided on a packaging tray conveyor positioned adjacently beneath the drum.

In the apparatus for conducting the process, two pressure rollers are articulated to each other by way of a double rocket arm. Consequently, the optimum cutting level, which will be different in individual cases, is automatically set. The effective cutting force for each roller is of equal strength.

    Abstract: An attachment for cutting machine tools, such as band saws, spindle-shapers, sanders and the like, controlling the feed path of the workpiece to the cutting tool to form desired workpiece contours, such as circles, arcs and the like, has a grooved track bar easily locked on and removed from the machine bed or table carrying a slide in the groove which has a workpiece centering pivot pin projecting therefrom. A workpiece is either directly pivoted on the pin or secured to a templet pivoted on the pin and is rotated about its pivot support against the cutting tool. The slide may be locked in the groove at a selected distance from the tool, may be pushed against a stop at a selected position in the groove or may be shifted by a cam to control the feed path of the workpiece for forming desired contours. Circles of selected diameters, elipses of selected minor and major radii, heart shapes, four leaf clover shapes and the like are easily developed.

The feed path of the paper includes a curved portion defined by an arcuate-section guide and a concentrically mounted roller. A loop of paper is formed by moving the roller out of the guide and the rear end of the paper is then held stationary and cut by a guillotine while the paper forming the loop is continuously fed forward. The timing of the feeding and cutting operations on the paper is controlled by micro-switches actuated by the leading and trailing ends of the master sheet.
