  • Patent number: 6886441
Abstract: A gang blade assembly which controls the trajectory of detritus from a ball grid array substrate dicing operation is described. The assembly includes a cover which partially encases a hub with a plurality of blades. A brush is mounted on the cover to disrupt an air flow created by rotation of the hub and blades. The brush extends beneath the cover and has bristles which contact the hub. The bristles also serve to clear the hub of any detritus produced during dicing. More than one brush may be mounted on the cover.

A second or elevated abutment is carried on a post for engagement with an upper end segment of the tree trunk to position the trunk in an upright manner for subsequent cutting off of the trunk base. A circular power saw is swingably mounted on the table structure and swings about an axis during a trunk cutting operation. A saw carrier is spring biased so as to disengage the saw from the trunk being cut. A blade guard of the saw is automatically retracted by a tether to expose the saw blade during a cutting operation and oppositely to conceal the blade when retracted away from the tree trunk.

  • Patent number: 5950514
Abstract: Supplemental guards are pivotally mounted on opposite sides of a conventional saw blade housing associated with miter saws. The supplemental blade guards are mounted so as to normally extend outwardly beyond the cutting blade whenever a miter saw blade is not engaged with a workpiece. The supplemental guards are positively guided as they are pivoted relative to the saw blade by contact with a workpiece as the miter saw blade is lowered to a cutting position.

  • Patent number: 5937720
Abstract: A cutting tool including a base having a turntable pivotally mounted on the base for movement about a vertical axis, a support member mounted on the turntable, and a saw arm mounted on the support member for pivotal movement about an axis between cutting and non-cutting positions. The saw arm has a saw blade including a lower portion. The saw blade is mounted for rotation about an arbor axis. A lower blade guard is supported on the saw arm for pivotal movement about the arbor axis between a surround position wherein the lower blade guard surrounds the lower portion of the saw blade and a non-surround position wherein the lower portion of the saw blade is exposed for cutting. The cutting tool also includes a cam plate mounted on the saw arm, and a cam follower mounted on the support member such that movement of the saw arm between the non-cutting position and the cutting position causes pivotal movement of the lower blade guard between the surround position and the non-surround position.

  • Patent number: 5927171
Abstract: A bench circular saw machine for cutting a material including a base upon which the material is supported, an arm interconnected to the base, a tube member, and a main body having a circular saw for cutting the material and a motor operatively associated with the circular saw for driving the circular saw. The main body is pivotally supported on the arm such that the main body can be pivoted toward the base and the circular saw can cut the material. The main body has a discharge port through which sawdust formed by the circular saw during a cutting operation is discharged from the main body. The tube member is disposed adjacent to the discharge port and is associated with the discharge port so as to guide the sawdust into the discharge port. The tube member is also pivotable relative to the material such that an angle of the tube member relative to the material can be varied.

  • Patent number: 5918522
Abstract: A radial arm saw is provided with pairs of outside and inside lower blade guards which normally extend outwardly beyond the cutting blade of the saw. The lower blade guards are normally locked in covering relationship relative to the saw blade unless released by the operation of a safety lock assembly including a pair of pivotable stop members which are engageable with the lower blade guards. The safety lock assembly includes a handle for pivoting and releasing the stop members when the radial arm saw is used in a crosscutting mode and a separate release rod which extends from the forward end of the saw assembly to the rear end thereof and which is operable to release the stop members when the saw is utilized in a rip cut mode.

  • Patent number: 5918521
Abstract: A bifurcated holdown shoe for radial arm saw mounted to the saw guard of the radial arm saw such that the lower surface of the holdown shoe is mounted at a distance above the radial arm saw saw table corresponding to the height of a work piece to pass underneath the holdown shoe and be cut by the radial arm saw. The holdown shoe includes an arm portion which is bifurcated into two arms separated by a channel. A portion of the saw blade is held within the channel. The holdown shoe holds a work piece vertically steady against the saw table immediately adjacent the saw blade during a rip-cut, thus reducing the occurrence of kick-back.

Abstract: A window assembly is provided for use on a hand-held circular saw. The window assembly has a transparent member that is attached to an upper guard of the saw in a covering relationship with an aperture provided in the upper guard. A projecting rib is provided that is coupled to and which extends outwardly from the guard adjacent the forward edge of the transparent member. The projecting rib substantially prevents light emanating forwardly of the saw from reflecting off of the member.

  • Patent number: 5890292
Abstract: A cutting machine having a rotatingly driven cutting tool (2) and a tool guard (1). The tool guard (1) has a first tool guard part (11) which is fixedly mounted with respect to the apparatus and a second tool guard part (12) which can be pivotably mounted relative to the first tool guard part (11). Each tool guard part includes side walls (30, 32) lying adjacent to respective sides of the cutting tool and a center web which connects the two side walls to each other. The center web (31) extends curved in the peripheral direction and is disposed above the cutting tool (2). In order to perform a disturbance-free pendular cut, the pivotable second tool guard part (12) carries a slide piece (40) which projects beyond the end edge (34) of the center web (31) and has a rounded outer slide surface (35) facing away from the center web (31). The end edge (34) faces away from the fixed first tool guard part (11).

  • Patent number: 5842400
Abstract: In general, table saws can be used in a stationary mode only, i.e. the saw blade is fixed in one position. A relatively simple saw assembly which can be used with an ordinary circular saw includes a table with a slot in the top surface thereof for slidably receiving the blade of a saw mounted on a slide beneath the table. The slide is movably mounted on an arcuate track on a carriage for permitting tilting of the blade to make angled cuts. The saw is connected to the slide by a cantilever structure, which permits changing of the amount of blade projecting above the table top, i.e. raising and lowering of the saw to alter the depth of cut. The carriage is mounted on rails extending longitudinally of the table. A handle is connected to the saw and projects upwardly through the slot to a location above the and in front of the blade for manual movement of the carriage, the slide and the saw.

  • Patent number: 5794351
Abstract: A window assembly is provided for use on a hand-held circular saw. The window assembly has a transparent member that is attached to an upper guard of the saw. The transparent member has a forward edge and a rearward edge and slopes downwardly to form a rearwardly facing acute angle with respect a planar base of the saw. The acute angle has a minimum value to prevent light from overhead sources from reflecting into the user's eyes and has a maximum value to prevent light from forward light sources from reflecting into the user's eyes. The forward edge of the transparent member is located rearwardly of the point at which a predetermined line intersects the guard. Additionally, a lower blade guard is provided for use on a circular saw having a clear viewing window on the upper blade guard. The lower blade guard has a truncated portion that allows a line of sight between the workpiece being sawed and the clear viewing window even when the lower guard is in a fully retracted position.
